a 13 minute drive. ncilmembers will ay hiring more discuss atidea as they determine how to move forward following the big nordstrom heist. justin andrew is live in the newsroom and that meeting will begin in just a few hours. >> 8:30 is when the special meeting is set to happen. leader also talk about hiring five new police officers, to patrol downtown walnut creek. it's all in response to the mob style moves, criminals made about 11 days ago. 90 crooks, 90 of them wearing masks, stormed in to the nordstrom store before closing stealing and damaging well over $100,000. investigators say it was well organized they injured four employees in the process. because of the scale and boldness this hit headlines nationwide. the city plans to figure out what it'll do moving forward. it could spend two million dollars of its four million remaining, of funding the

federal american rescue plan act on new security. in addition to five police officers, costing 1.6 million, the city would spend 250,000 on more security cameras did a drone. it may also seta site 130,000 for overtime pay on additional officers. today's meeting we expect to get an update on the investigation and the meantime last week one of the suspects involved in this was released from jail by mistake. the da said a computer error was a blame. we know that suspect is back in jail. and live to san francisco. new this morning, city supervisors, have decided to continue the vote on whether to allow sheriff's deputies to provide private security. this after the rash of retail

robberies, local businesses hope more security will -- many of them are boarded up this morning. and in a late night vote in the south bay the san jose city council approved using covid relief money to lease more license plate readers. they are have been pushing for it after the organized retail heist. it'll spend $250,000 in funding. the license plate readers could make it easier to spot criminals but one expert said he doesn't think this will stop mob style crime. >> license plate readers very good at capturing information on innocent people but maybe not information on people who are willing to break the law. >> electronic frontier foundation said that 1.6 million plates were scanned and stored last year. of those, only 1500 successfully matched known criminals. happening today san francisco police will honor a security guard and former bay area particular during their commission meeting. he died saturday after being

shot by a robber who tried to steal camera gear from a news crew. he also worked our crews. now to the drought coverage new water restrictions in effect for marin. we are live and some people could be paying more expensive bills here. >> that's right. starting today some people are going to have to be paying attention to how much water they are using. customers won't be able to do outdoor irrigation and in a four person household if it's exseepedding 748 gallons a month you could pay more. according to the water website the storage and all it's reservoir is at 58% capacity. that's 8% less than average for this date. the water goal is to conserve 40% district wide. after the rain we received in late october these water restrictions are catching some residents by surprise but still

some don't think it'll make much difference. >> it gave us a prediction that we are going to pay $25 penalty based on last year. i thought we are not going to be able to use as much as last year because they told us not to irrigate and then $25 won't break the bank. >> and the restriction is set to stay in effect until may 31th of next year. kpix5. health leaders are in a race to fight the new covid variant. right now delta is the dominant variant in the united states. in santa clara despite it's high vaccination rate covid cases have plateaued for nearly a month. the seven day rolling average has been between 170 and 180 cases. meanwhile the cdc is stepping up its surveillance of the new variant, sequencing one in every seven positive cases. that's more than any other

slightly cooler through the workweek but cooler for the weekend and into next monday and for next tuesday. all right. let's check in with ann for a look at traffic. are there any hot spots out there? >> he with have an accident to report unfortunately. this one is in emoryville. two lanes are blocked right now, two vehicles mixed it up on 580 eastbound near the ashby avenue exit. both vehicles facing the wrong way. that is starting to cause back ups there. the bay bridge metering lights on. time from the maze in to the city 15 minutes, there is a report of a car bumper blocking one of the lanes on the right hand side of the base of the incline there. 880 northbound, 13 minutes, coming up from san jose to the eastside of the bay. a look at the san mateo bridge. a 13 minute drive from 880 to 101. let's look at that dublin interchange, pass, traffic is heavy. 50 minute drive from 205 to 680.

his texts expressing frustration over problems he saw at the company showed he wasn't deceiving her about the issues. the trial resumes next tuesday. and less than 30 minutes the seoul premium court will hear a case that could let states ban abortion. it's around a law banning it after 15 weeks. it has previously ruled that states cannot ban abortion before a fetus is viable usually around 24 weeks. justices usually reluctant to completely overturn previous high court decisions. experts say that may not be the case when it comes to abortion. >> we have seen the confirmation hearings, of several justices and then the known records of a couple of others such as clarence thomas and that temperature us that there is a pretty heavy majority that is interested in taking another look at that. >> if it's overturned, abortion laws would be left up to individual states. new details about the teen who opened fire at his high
