with us. it is january 21. i am anne makovec in for len. >> it is friday. i am amanda starrantino. let's get a check of our weather forecast with mary lee. it's a little windy today. for sure. a blustery day ahead. i will be tracking strong winds picking up with dry offshore northerly winds kicking up. we have wind advisories that will be in effect for most of the bay area starting at 7:00 a.m. for locations highlighted in gold. winds will be gusting up to possibly 50 to 55 miles per hour. we have high wind warnings highlighted in red for the north bay mountains with winds gusting up to 60 to possibly 70 miles per hour. watch for downed trees and power outages with the strong winds. something else i am watching, it's not as foggy compared to yesterday. you can see the golden gate bridge as we start our day. though there is patchy fog for parts of the north bay. temperature wise we are in the 30s for santa rosa area, 40s concord, oakland, as well as

livermore san jose, low 50s in san francisco. as we head through the day we are looking at walking through the day in san francisco, plenty sunshine, low to mid 60s this afternoon but windy conditions, tracking strong winds. also for oakland, temps in 60s with wind kicking up and for the san jose area, mid 60s this afternoon, sunny and warm and tracking strong winds. i will let you know when we will see strongest winds today into tomorrow coming up. today we are going to be hearing more details on a new bill that will let teenagers get the covid vaccine without their parents' consent. state senator scott wiener just introduced the legislation. >> justin andrews is live in san francisco breaking down the proposal that can get a lot of people talking. >> reporter: it would allow a 12-year-old, a minor, 12 years or older, to get this covid shot without their parents

needing to sign off. this could be one that could be controversial. it is permissive though, not a mandate.. the senator said widespread misinformation has caused parents to deny their children access. there are about 1 million people between ages 12 and 17 who have not gotten the shot because their parents oppose or haven't taken them to get it. he argues california allows those 12 and up to get certain vaccines and treatments like hpv and hepatitis b vaccines without parents' consent and says this should be no different. he will be holding a press conference at 9:30. we'll certainly let you know what unfolds there. if you want to see golden state warriors play at the chase center, you are going to need a booster shot. >> joycelyn moran joins us with how long fans have to prepare

for the new rules. i am sure some are scrambling. >> reporter: you've still got sometime. warriors are second in the western conference, klay thompson is back, an exciting time to see them play. you will want to make sure you are prepared. starting february 1, you will need to show you are boosted. if you got pfizer or moderna, you have three doses. if you have johnson & johnson, that means two doses. this applies to those 16 and older and those 12 to 15, you have a little bit more time. you have to show proof of boosters starting march 1. you have to be boosted at least one week before you attend an event at the chase center. this is from san francisco department of public health for mega events over 500 people. dr. rutherford with ucsf says it's the right move and some fans are on board with it. >> i think it is absolutely, positively something that you have to have to be protected. >> it's a sense of feeling

protected and feeling like we're going to stop the spread of this virus. >> reporter: the warriors first home game after this rule goes into effect is february 3 against sacramento kings. if you are not boosted, warriors are holding events on january 25th and 29th. >> thanks. today nurses at daly city's ahmc medical center are set to hold a virtual press conference to demand staffing safety amid covid-19. organizers say hospital management is not prioritizing patient care over profits. today's virtual event is scheduled for 5:30 this evening. it appears coronavirus cases in san francisco may have peaked. january 9, the seven day average was nearly 2100 a day. on the 12th cases dropped to a little more than 1,000 a day. on the other side of the spectrum, across the country nearly 2,000 people are still

dying from covid every day. the city attorneys office in san francisco issuing a pair of subpoenas as it investigates possible rogue covid testing sites. they are demanding documents from two california based companies, community wellness america, and crest view clinical laboratory, after users expressed concerns. community wellness set up two free viintablin san francisco including this one in front of mission high school. public health officials shut the site down saying it was unauthorized and violated business codes. >> we are concerned about members of the public that may not be receiving test results that are valid. we don't know what is happening to the information that's being used. >> experts tell us any testing operation should be able to display what's called a valid clia, certificate of compliance. that means the laboratory doing the testing actually knows what

at police. this all unfolded on west heading street and park avenue wednesday. a police chopper first began following the suspect after a report of a stolen car. people in fremont are going to gather to remember a woman killed last weekend in new york city. 40-year-old michelle go grew up in fremont and was a graduate of ucla. saturday she was shoved in front of a subway train at the times square station in new york. a candle light event tonight on capitol avenue. search ongoing for a santa rosa woman more than a year after she disappeared. she was last seen january 11, 2021, and while hope of finding her alive has faded but her family members are determined to find out what happened to her including her former fiance. they shared a son. she was 28 years old and he says there is no way she would

happening today, vice president kamala harris is going to make a stop in southern california. she's set to announce that the state is going to get $600 million in federal funds to recover from and prepare for wildfires, that money coming from recently passed infrastructure bills. last year's wildfire season was

among worse in california history scorching nearly 2.6 million acres. pge days from ending a five year felony probation over deadly san bruno explosion. yesterday a federal judge tore into the utility company saying pge has gone on a crime spree and will emerge from probation as, quote, a continuing menace to california. he is not mincing words. in an eight page report the u.s. district judge also wrote while on probation pge has had at least 31 wildfires burned nearly 1.5 million acres, 93,956 structures and killed 113 californians. the judge has over seen pge's probation since conviction for the 2010 pipeline explosion in san bruno. eight people were killed in the blast. probation term is set to expire on january 25. pge responding to the judge's

harsh comments saying in part it has become a fundamentally safer company over the course of our probation. the utility also acknowledged it has more work to do. the czu lightning complex fires devastated much of the santa cruz mountains. that includes thousands of acres the red woods. now tens of thousands of seed links are being planted. in 2020 the fire burned or damaged 97% of the trees in the area. a year and a half later the forest has begun to bounce back. but mother nature needs a little help. this week, save the red woods league is embarking on modern day johnny apple seed mission. >> you can see there is a red wood islet here and a red wood islet here. between the two red woods it is all ten oak which have kind of grown in and kept these different red wood groves separated from each other. it's harder for new red wood

sprouts to come in. this is our chance to try and get it back to the trajectory of what it was. >> over time the seed links will grow and return to mostly red woods which are more naturally fire resistant compared to other trees. the seed links are a year old and a typical worker can plant 100 to 200 a day. update on the drought, conditions have improved enough that california water officials say they will release more water than initially planned from state reservoirs. it is going to local agencies that provide water to 27 million people. that includes alameda and santa clara. it has enough to give districts 15% of what they requested. before recent rains, that number was 0%. working in the right direction there but just barely. 16 minutes after 6:00. no rain in the near future, mary has an eye on our

forecast. what's it looking like? i wish i could tell you we have rain in sight but that is not coming any time soon. in fact tracking dry gusty offshore northerly winds today. a big difference with our weather today with the stronger winds kicking up, especially you will notice that in the afternoon. wind advisory for most of the bay area highlighted in gold and the wind advisory for most of the bay area, the reason why we'll see winds gusting 50 to possibly 55 miles per hour and it's really in the higher elevations where we will see those high winds. the east bay hills and north bay mountains, gusts 60 to 70 miles per hour. you can see the high wind warning highlighted in red for the north bay mountains. likely some power outages possible, downed trees. now is a good time to secure any loss outdoor objects that will likely blow around in the wind later today. current wind are not bad, calm

to light conditions. again as we head through the afternoon, i will be watching winds kick up for us. temperatures, 40s concord, oakland, livermore, san jose, low 50s san francisco, a cold 35 degrees in santa rosa. now, not as foggy as yesterday morning but still dealing with patchy dense fog for parts of the north bay, down to near zero for petaluma, three quarters of a mile for santa rosa and also napa as we start our day. through the afternoon, plenty sunshine, warm temperatures and really tracking the winds. for the coast, and the bay, inland, we will be in the 60s this afternoon. satisfy are view, a strong pressure gradient setting up with that ridge of high pressure over the pacific and low pressure system over the great basin. we have the two features so close together, we have the strong winds, offshore winds. we had a lot of rain last month in december so not really looking at high fire danger but watching those winds this

afternoon and into tonight. we'll see the strongest winds with this system and for tomorrow in the afternoon eventually we will see winds ease. temperatures again will be in the 60s, 65 for san francisco and oakland, 67 san jose, 64 concord. we are looking at mid 60s for the north bay in the napa valley. we are cheering on our 49ers taking on the packers at lambeau field, wind chills near zero but we are hoping for a big win with our 49ers. go niners. seven-day forecast for san francisco, oakland, san jose, sunny warm temperatures for the weekend ahead. inland east bay, north bay, coast, sunny and warm this weekend and staying dry as we look to next week. back to you. online retail giant amazon taking the old fashion approach to its newest venture. it is opening a brick and mortar clothing store in california. amazon style will feature shoes

it starts at home. take a look at the video from yesterday. 49er fans giving the team a warm send off at levi stadium as they boarded buses to head to the airport. the faithful fan group were clearing from santa clara and they'll also be cheering in green bay hoping to take that home advantage from the packers. >> we're going with a group of i would say 20 i believe. we're going to be tailgating over there. it's going to be freezing. it's going to be cold. i have my boots, thermals. i will be probably five layers deep. >> it is going to be cold. green bay's channel 5 meteorologist says the actual air temperature might be around 15 but it will feel closer to zero around kick off. you heard the fans. they've got their boots and layers ready. i on the other hand will be staying here supporting them at home where it is a bit warmer. kick off is at 5:15 tomorrow

i am justin andrews live in san francisco, minors might be able to get the covid shot if you live in california. parents, you won't be able to stop them. the bill was introduced yesterday and is brewing and could bring backlash. senator scott wiener introduced it. it could let 12 to 17-year-olds get the shot without parents' consent. it is permissive and not a mandate. california allows those 12 and up to consent to hpv and hepatitis b vaccines without senator says this is no differ widespread misinformation has caused many parents to deny access to the life saving vaccination. the senator will be holding a press conference at 9:30. though legislature is primarily democrat and could cause issues comes to getting this

thrive city. joycelyn moran, kpix5. >> thanks. i am tracking strong winds as we head through today, gusty offshore winds developing especially in the higher elevations. hills and munoz towns, gust up to 30 to 40 miles an hour. many of us, calm to light conditions but again as we head through the afternoon, you will feel those winds really kicking in. we have wind advisories for most of the bay area, gusts 50 to 55 miles per hour. that's highlighted in gold. we have a high wind warning for the area in red there for north bay mountains gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour, this kicks into effect starting at 7:00 a.m. downed trees and power outages are a possibility. we'll see sunshine and warm temperatures in the 60s. again, tracking those winds and looking at calmer conditions for the weekend ahead with temperatures in the 60s.
