school board agreed to spend about three million dollars to make changes and improvements to the property where the new bryant elementary school will be built.these are concepts of what the new school will look like.the district has already purchased 8 homes that will be torn down to make room for the new school. more than a million will be reimbursed by the state. they also agreed to spend 660-thousand dollars to install a georthermal heating system... which requires a well to be built. 3 "this has been a long journey, i've been working on the bryant project since i came to the district in 2008, and bryant has been a challenge mostly because it's very difficult to find land where we are going to build the replacement school for bryant."the new school is expected to open in 2019. students currently attending bryant will be split up between surrounding schools until construction is complete. 3 3 the group dedicated to improving downtown sioux city is taking steps to improve and better protect trees aong the city's streets. currently the trunks of most trees in the downtown are surrounded by

metal grates... which are expensive to replace.now... downtown partners is trying a new system that surrounds the trees with a semi- permeable, rubber substance. 3 "the cost is very minimal so really we figured lets test this area, see how it works for sioux city in the winter. see how things go and if we like it, we'll keep spreading it around"each tree costs around 200 dollars to surround with the rubber... compared to 12- hundred dollars for steel grates.the trial grates are being used on 9 trees on 4th street between pierce and nebraska. 3 sioux city police say good surveillance video is the reason they were able to quickly arrest the suspect of on the west side.23- year- old regan maryland of houston texas is in custody tonight.he's charged with first degree robbery in connection to friday's robbery at k and n auto on center street.maryland's currently being held in the woodbury county jail.police say just before noon friday... he went into the repair shop and asked an employee to look at his car. when the employee went

outside... maryland allegedly pointed a gun at him and demanded money.the employee handed over his wallet... and maryland ran off.he was arrested on sunday by police. 3 3 three teenagers from norfolk are facing charges in connection with a series of home and car window vandalisms in northeast nebraska.police say cheyenne hutson, justin coolidge and dallis smith... all 19- year- olds from norfolk... are charged with criminal mischief.there were more than 70 reports of windows being shot at by b- b guns in norfolk and woodland park. the three teens were arrested after a traffic stop found b- b guns and ammunition in their car. 3 today loocal law enforcement and native american came together in a town hall meeting...looking for solutions to some common problems. too many native americans are suffering the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse. but what can be done to help them?siouxland news reporter jaclyn driscoll has more. 3 "i'd like to ask the question, where are you? where's our

mayor, where's our councilmen, our elected members. where are you?"although council was made aware of the meeting, mar bob scott says other obligations kept him from attending. "i think i got an email on this particular meeting, but all the council was copied so i assumed somebody would go there. wrong assumption on my part. when i found out there was a concern that i wasn't there, i texted the chief to let him know i was in another meeting." but sheriff dave drew says it's *the state* that we should be looking to for assistance. "when we have these meetings, when i get somewhat frustrated, i am the sheriff and chief young is the chief. we are in law enforcement. the ones that make legislative change should be at some of these meetings and when you don't see them it becomes a source of frustration for all of law enforcement because we're the ones dealing with it."one suggestion was the creation of a detox center... which assists in rehabilitating these individuals. "all we are doing is the punishment part and we're not dealing with the rehabilitation part, which we think is important."one option

discussed to accomplish this was to utilize funds generated by the new cf industries plant. "all of us want to see property tax reduction. we know the supervisors will do that, but there certainly is enough money for the supervisors to consider developing adequate intervention programs. "as many voiced their concerns and looked for solutions, this town hall meeting was the first of many steps to fix these ongoing problems. 3 it's history in the making. a shipyard in wisconsin is nearing completion on the first ship in the united states navy to be named for sioux city.but it has taken more than just *man power.* tonight on our special report...jetske wauran traveled to wisconsin and spoke with the *women* behind uss sioux city. 3 for lieutenant ida quigley, serving the country is not only a duty. it's her passion. "it's prettexciting." born and raised in houston, texas, the 27-year-old says, she was full-on ready for the united states navy."i'm the navigator on board, so all of us on the crew have about five different jobs which is a really unique opportunity, because normally every job that we have board, you have different person that does that."and her future, not only brighter, but much bigger. in addition to serving as a surface warfare officer, quigley is the prime navigator littoral combat ship crew 108.

3 around the house sometimes.siouxland news reporter kayla novak shows us how homecare nurses can help. 3 "being a home health nurse we are the eyes and ears of the doctor, in the homes." jill vrieze goes into patients home, who are home bound or just need an extra hand. somethings she helps with are "medications, diet, lifestyle, exercise, we try to help coordinate with speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy all of those can be done in the home so they don't have to leave their home."the patients are more open and more comfortable in their homes, but sometimes they can't get around like they used to. "our role as a nurse, we are the advocate for these patients. you know we go into these homes, and some patients have no families,they have no body to help them. so they need a voice, they need somebody to help them to say, i have stairs in my home and i can't get up and down them." home care nurses also help

"we can get them connected with other agencies, you know for transportation, for meals on wheels for house keeping there are so many things that we can get them connected with that people do not realize that are out in our community that are available."they are also there in crucial moments, to help patients get what they need immediately. "when we go into the homes we assess the patient and if we find there is something wrong or something not quite right, we call the doctor's office." but jill's favorite part about the job,...
