and criminal investigations. however they allege there is more in the plans than just search and rescue. the group says they could use the unmanned drones to spy on local residents. kron 4's reggie kumar is here to break it down for us. >> reporter: these are the documents obtained by the aclu from the sherriff's departments. documents show they will do more than what they told the public. >> reporter: you may not see it as it fliess over your -- flies over your home, that is what they allege could happen if the sherriff's department is allowed to use the unmanned drones. he said this about the drones and privacy concerns back then. >> search and rescue missions,
persons with fire arms, rural areas that are not easily accessible by patrol car. those situations. >> we have had robots in our s.w.a.t. teams for 10 years now, we don't roll those down the street. >> reporter: these documents obtained by the aclu, which approved $31,000 in grant money for the unmanned drones, says they will be used for intelligence and information sharing. in another document, referring to the drones, dedicated to law enforcement terrorism prevention oriented activities. they will support building prevention and protection cape abilities. she says residents need be
concerned. >> drones have the capacity to be abused tremendously. >> the board of supervisors has to vote on this, right? >> reporter: absolutely right. that was supposed to be discussed during tomorrow night's meeting but it was pulled from the agenda. the aclu wants public forums before the board votes and they are holding a press conference tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in oakland. >> you know if they are controversial in iraq and pakistan you know they will be controversial here. no matter what the purpose. >> reporter: absolutely. >> thank you. new tonight at 11:00 a woman in a wheelchair run over by a muni train today and she is in the hospital.
the woman was hit by a f market train at 5:30 p.m. tonight near church and market streets. police are investigating whether she leaned forward towards the train or if she fell. witnesses say the woman was dragged and trapped under the train. firefighters and police had to use a special tulle to lift the -- tool to lift the train and pull her out from under it. more trouble for muni tonight. a power outage knocked out underground train service. you see the workers making announcements there. no estimated time of service restoration and the bus shuttles are available for stranded muni passengers. that is between the embarcadero stations. crews will work throughout the night to get the power restored before the busy morning commute. today the bay area
continues to clean up the after math from that series of strong storms which swept in over the weekend trees knocked down and power was cut to thousands and a major problem in the east bay, the rain is blamed for causing a giant sink hole. kron 4's terisa estacio tells us what happened there. >> reporter: running backhoes, and dump trunks worked to clear up the sink hole and expose a storm pipe. the big pipe was designed to transport a massive amount of water underneath this road, steering rain water away from homes but somehow it failed. sunday morning the road caved in. huge. the failure is under investigation. the race is on to figure out
how to put in another drainage system. officials say if there is not a temporary fix before the next storm it could be disas a -- disastrous out here. >> rain on tuesday with heavy rain on wednesday. our goal is to get down to the storm pipe by this time tomorrow to reassess the situation. water is the enemy when it comes to soil and dirt. if we have it come in like this it would be catastrophic. we are trying to get down to our storm drain to make sure that we can reassess it and get it working for wednesday. if not we will have to do temporary control measures. >> reporter: terisa estacio, kron 4 news. all around the bay area crews and homeowners were dealing with the after math of trees falling. this tree came down early
sunday morning. and landed in the backyard of a home on west "i" street. crews were trying to get it out of the way. the owner says the tree with stood 80 years worth of storms till it came down over the weekend. a massive elm tree uprooted in a backyard. the tree crashed through a fence and landed in a driveway. nobody was hurt. and there was no serious damage. thousands of people lost power during the storm. many are still without power tonight. the past weekend storms took a toll on the roads in the mountains. crews are working on several mud slides. vine hill road is closed after a large mudslide took out 50
feet of one lane. >> it will be a big problem on this road. a major commute route to highway 17. and we got one lane washed out and a portion broken off. we are trying to assess the situation. >> road closures in hillsides have drivers looking for detours and power outages linger as downed trees fall on to lines. pg&e worked through the night to restore electricity. dry today but we have more wet weather on the way. live look outside on radar. not picking up much right now. but rain sitting up to the north right now. this storm will be impacting us tomorrow and wednesday. it is still off shore right now. streaming in the moisture into

station. the judge ruled a $50 million lawsuit against the former police officers should be decided in a jury trial. tonight three firefighters are recovering from injuries they suffered while responding to a traffic accident in the east bay yesterday. these three firefighters were hurt on rain soaked highway 24. kronwe have the video from the seen and the lates on the -- latest on their conditions. >> reporter: three firefighters were seriously hurt after a chain reaction accident on highway 24. they found themselves soaked and suffering as they tried to save someone else. >> they are in good spirits. >> reporter: he is staying close to their h. beds. he -- their hospital beds. the three firefighters were on the shoulder of the highway
near the exit dealing with a traffic accident when another car going fast on the slick road lost control, hit their fire truck and rolled over them. the chief says in a dangerous situation they are doing everything right. >> they are following the policies and procedures. we will evaluate the policies and procedures to make sure we are protecting our employees. >> reporter: he has cuts and a concussion. he has a broken leg, foot and fractured knee. his leg was crushed. the panic at the accident scene was clear as other firefighters tried to help their own. at the fire station they are all trying to heal. >> we are hoping the physical and emotional injuries heal. we are taking care of the organization. >> reporter: it could be months before the injured firefighters
return to work. kron 4 news. we saw a break from the rain out there today but more rain on the way tomorrow and wednesday. tomorrow's rain will be in the north bay but wednesday morning that rain spreads throughout the bay area. thursday we are looking at drier conditions. all the rain is missing us to the north tonight. we saw a few returns over the north bay. by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, showers in the north bay and you can see it continues into the 11:00 a.m. hour. there is a chance we could see showers over san francisco and oakland. you see it is pinpointing them to the north. 5:00 p.m. hour, rain through the north bay. more coverage than what this is showing by 5:00 p.m. concentrated in the north bay. wednesday morning, that is when the heavy rain slides south. cold front right there. the ban of yellow indicating
more moderate rain. and then breaks up 6:00 p.m. wednesday. lingering showers in the later morning hours, by the afternoon, drier conditions. sierra, not a lot of snow, we have warm air coming win the system. snow fall levels 8500 feet tomorrow. 9,000 feet on wednesday. a look at your extended forecast, north bay showers tomorrow, and rain for the bay area, wednesday afternoon, drier conditions and the same for the rest of the work week into the weekend. warning from the centers for disease control, that is that the flu season could be a bad one. kron 4's dan kerman has more. >> reporter: if you haven't got a flu shot you might want to consider it. doctors say the flu season is arriving earlier than usual. >> it is unusual to have peaks in december. usually january is the peak of
the season. on the eastern part of the united states it is building up steam. >> reporter: he says the strain of the flu is also more potent this year, which is another reason why everyone over the age of 6 months should get a flu shot. especially those most at risk. >> children. they have a higher risk of getting more serious side effects. kronic conditions -- kronic conditions and the elderly. >> reporter: most people fear it will give them the flu, not true. >> basically the injectible form is just a piece of the -- injectible form is just a piece of the virus. >> reporter: they will have it well into next year but officials say if you really want to protect yourself the time to get it is now. dan kerman, kron 4 news.
