this thursday august 22nd. i'm james fletcher. topping our news this morning. the wildfire burning near yosemite continues to threaten 25-hundred homes. the "rim fire" is essentially burning out of control. firefighters have only been able to contain about five- percent of it. so far, it has burned more than 25-square miles in the stanislaus national forest. the area is fairly remote, but it has led to the evacuation of thousands of people from campgrounds and private homes. the bay area is just six days away from the shutdown of the bay bridge.

all lanes in both directions will close at 8:00- pm on wednesday night, august 28th. that's when workers will transition the old roadway to the new eastern span. the c-h-p advises motorists to allow an extra hour to their commute time on wednesday night and beyond. officials say drivers should be among the last people to cross the bridge wednesday night. they say the bay bridge closure will be similar to past closures.

embattled san diego mayor bob filner has reached a tentative deal involving a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him and the city. city attorney jan goldsmith says a proposed resolution has been reached, and it will be presented to the city council during closed

session friday. no details have been released, and it's unclear whether a resignation is part of the deal. the 70-year-old former congressman has been besieged by sexual harassment allegations from at least 17 women, and whether he'll be able to hang onto his job is in limbo. a petition drive to recall filner is in full swing, and calls from his own party urging him to step down are mounting. a former danville cop accused of taking bribes for setting men up for drunken driving arrests continues with testimony from the man who set the

scheme up. contra costa sheriff's deputy stephen tanabe faces seven extortion and conspiracy counts for allegedly being paid by concord private investigator christopher butler for taking part in this scheme orchestrated by butler on behalf of his targets' estranged spouses. tanabe denies taking any bribes for making "dirty dui" arrests. butler and former contra costa narcotics enforcement team commander norman wielsch were arrested for

selling drugs they stole from evidence lockers. butler and wielsch are now each serving federal prison terms. butler will take the stand against tanabe as part of his plea deal. police in santa clara arrested a 15 year old boy suspected of making officers found 43 pounds of loose leaf marijuana, seven grams of concentrated cannabis, and evidence of a "hash lab" in the yard of a home on rocklin drive. investigators learned about the suspected lab last week and put the home under surveillance. the teen was arrested and taken to juvenile hall. police say they've found as many as six of these types

alert from oakland police this morning about imposters making their way into people's homes. the most recent victim was a 90 year-old man. he was in his home in sunny hill road tuesday afternoon when two men knocked on his front door, claiming to be from pg&e. they said that they had to check the easement in the backyard. he says that he had reason received a letter from the city of oakland signed work needed to be done on the easement. so he did not think anything about it. but, as it turns out, the men were imposters. >> he was probably the one at the moment the when the burglaries. >> they made off with about
