>> catherine : now at 11. a wildfire in lake county has forced hundreds of people from their homes. the so-called "jerusalem fire" has burned 6-thousand acres. and there's no word on any containment. good evening. i'm catherine heenan. kron 4's emily turner talked to residents who are trying to make it out of the area safely. >> emily : at 6,000 a. the jerusalem fire has slowed its progress but it is yet to be contained >>:we had hoses trying to hose the house down because you're afraid the fire would come >> emily : it started at 5:00 last night in lake county and during the daylight you concede

its path >>:it is currently moving in a southeast direction which is away from the populated areas, it is also going to the north and be expected is going to be hanging in into the area of the rocky fire and run out of fuel >> emily : none of them have face any damage in spite of the mandatory evacuation, and it is thanks to the firefighters for working are hardest to keep everyone safe >>:we also have air tankers and helicopters and all the tools we need to try and work together effectively >>:they are doing a hell of a job, so props to you guys >> catherine : windy conditions have made it tough for firefighters. kron 4's brian van aken has been tracking the forecast.

operations for a time. dark plumes of smoke could be see around the area. but no buildings were damaged. alameda police are issuing a special warning to residents tonight. after a rash of home break-ins. in the most recent incident. a teenaged girl was assaulted. here is a surveillance photo of the suspect kron 4's alecia reid joins us live tonight from the alameda police department. with more on how officers are stepping up security. alecia? >> alecia :it is very scary for neighbors who normally leave their windows open so fresh air can come in at night. authorities believe the same man may be responsible for six burglaries that happened the last two months >>:the police department is taking this very seriously if >> alecia :patrols are busy, the recent spike in brought-- burglary where housing are broken into early in the morning or late at night has a

neighborhood on edge the most recent a teenager was asleep in the house at night when she says that the intruder cut the screen for the window and made his way inside working us all to her --inside and assaulted her the burglaries happened in this area of town, and this manager's apartment was targeted as he and his family slept surveillance cameras caught pictures of this man who police say his description matches the suspect in other burglaries'. he is between 18 to 20 years old, with a curly afro, another reason the same individual may be responsible for half a dozen burglaries' is that the method of that ientry is very similar

extra officers were deployed since that first break-in happened yet the number of burglars continued to rise. police are urging the public to stay alert and close our windows and doors at night >> catherine : there were some scary moments this afternoon at the eastridge mall in san jose police say two men tried to steal a car from the parking lot --- and shots were fired. kron four's jeff bush shows you the scene and got reaction from concerned shoppers. >> jeff :it was just after 1:30broad daylight in the back of the eastridge mall. according to police two men attempted to carjack a vehicle on the mall propertyduring that altercation one of the suspects opened fire. >>:all i can say is there was some carjacking suspectsshots were fired in that incident. >> jeff :the robbers took of on

footarmed men on the looseshots already firedsan jose police took no chances and called out the canine units and the swat team. after several hours of searching in the nearby area, on suspect--one suspect was found and arrestedhe was taken to the hospital after his arrestit is unclear what his condition was or the reason for the hospital transport. as you can imagine, the carjacking struck a chord of fear in those who came to what they considered a safe place. >> blake peckham : it definitely makes me a little uneasya little uncomfortable at sometimeswhen your partner came up and told me there may have been something that happened earlier in the day it made me uneasy and i said something to michelle and tommy when i walked through the restaurant but overall, i'm trying to feel a little more comfortable about it. >> jeff :police say they looked for hours for that second suspect but he was nowhere to be found. if you have any information they would like you to give them a call. i'm jeff bush in san jose, kron four news.

>> catherine : two men are dead in connection with two separate officer-involved shootings that happened in san jose within just six hours. in the most recent incident, officers opened fire on a man who confronted them with a shotgun and then barricaded himself inside a home here on san marcos drive. police say they found him several hours later-- after he had killed himself. that followed another incident sunday night on packing place way. police shot and killed a man they say threatened them with a knife after stabbing and critically wounding a driver-- following a traffic accident. new at 11. crews are working to repair a water main break tonight in san jose. the break happened around 8:30. along hillsdale avenue near the silicon valley career center. it's considered to be serious - and water company workers may be on the scene all night. repairs will probably include shutting off the water for a time.

>> catherine : new at 11. billionaire donald sterling is suing celebrity website t-m-z and his ex-girlfriend -- over a recording of racist remarks. those comments cost him ownership of the los angeles clippers. he filed suit against t-m-z and the woman named v. stiviano on friday in los angeles superior court. sterling claims they violated his privacy by illegally recording a private conversation and broadcasting it. in the recordings obtained by t-m-z. sterling told stiviano not the to associate with black people. still ahead. talks are underway for a possible move by the raiders - out of oakland. today's meeting in chicago. also -- a nuclear reactor in japan is finally up and running again following the fukushima disaster. >> gary :and a leader in this broadcast we'll have the quick

looks like this, but they were repaving one of two lanes about the length of a football field and i thought it would be down around 3:00. in actuality the project ended at 930. two traffic accidents and near the construction site and made matters worse. the city says they were never made aware of this project, and everyone problems--promises better communication in the future, and that they will be saving their projects for after dark from no one now on people say they're now skeptical of their construction products >> catherine : raiders owner mark davis is in chicago to talk about a possible move out of oakland. it's the focus of a round of special meetings with other team owners this week. the bid by the raiders and the

chargers to move to carson, california - is one of two such proposals they'll hear tomorrow. the other involves the st. louis rams - relocating to inglewood, california. former 49-er executive carmen policy says that he's focused on the carson bid. he was asked if it could be done with just one team.instead of two. >>:the carson plan can be done with one team but it cannot be done as well in terms of what you penetrate but will be a larger market >> catherine : he says that the raiders and chargers are the two most popular teams in southern californiasomething that he says could be a good combination. police have made at least 50 arrests tonight in ferguson, missouri.after protesters blocked a street. this is the 4th straight night of protests marking the anniversary of the death of 18- year-old michael brown. officers with bullhorns tried to clear the road -- and others in riot gear forced people out of the street.

some demonstrators threw water bottles and other debris at police. dozens of people were handcuffed and put into vans. now police want the community's help in ending the violence. >>:we cannot do it by ourselves, need the community out here helping us and working with us to identify a this and make it stop >> catherine : st. louis county has been declared to be in a state of emergency. that authorizes the police chief to take control of emergency management. a nuclear reactor in southern japan is up and running again. crews re=started the number 1 reactor at its sendai nuclear plant today. it's the first reactor to begin operating under new safety requirements - after the fukushima disaster in 20-11. an earthquake and tsunami triggered radioactive contamination in the area. more than 100-thousand people were displaced. all of japan's nuclear power plants have been shut down over the past two years. >> brian :and we have lots of

fog coming now through the golden gate bridge as it is hard to see out there tonight as the clouds roll in. this weather system is going to sit around all week and keep things fairly mild around here without much of a change in temperatures tonight tomorrow we will watch the fog clear to about 11 by the bay, and then sunshine and a couple clouds in the afternoon, with gusty winds in the afternoon hours coming from the ocean and producing a little bit of rain and out in the ocean, macleod's coming into the base for tonight but as i mentioned the this is not able to move to the east as it is hitting a block in a weather pattern and after it goes by things are going to really warm-up as we get into the weekend. temperatures tomorrow are pretty similar for today

for tomorrow starting out with low clouds through 11 and then sunshine a breezy conditions and high clouds for the afternoon. along with low clouds in the morning for wednesday and possibly a few sprinkles as the weather system gets a little bit closer to less. faster clearing for thursday but still pretty mild, but that will change on friday as high as are going up into the 80s by the bay, '90s inland, and possibly some triple digit temperatures for the weekend >> catherine : it was one small bite for man, one giant leap for mankind. today, for the first time, astronauts on the international space station ate red romaine lettuce that they grew in space. they added a little balsamic vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil. apparently it was pretty good.but it's not about taste. the concept of a space garden is necessary for future deep space missions. like the one planned to mars -- in about 15 years.

i'm a gas service rep for pg&e in san jose.. as a gas service rep we are basically the ambassador of the company. we make the most contact with the customers on a daily basis. i work hand-in-hand with crews to make sure our gas pipes are safe. my wife and i are both from san jose.
