bay late this evening, then gradually spreading southward to the golden gate by 4 am and finally to monterey by mid morning thursday. lingering showers will develop behind the front http://www.weamuch of the bay area during the day thursday. rainfall will be highest over the north bay and coastal mountains, roughly 1-2 inches. elsewhere, 0.25-0.75 inches. the greatest impact will be on the thursday new fears of another evacuation... at the oroville dam. nearly 200=thousand people have just returned to their homes and today officials downplayed the possibility they might have to leave again. but they still say people living downstream from the reservoir should keep their bags packed. ááá i want to remind everyone mother nature's in the room. words of caution as acting state water chief bill croyle described the slowly improving
situation at lake oroville. this next storm won't pose a threatstate officials say the damaged spillway is lowering the lake's water level by about eight inches an hour. their target is to drop it by another 25 feet.and even with the new rain...we shouldn't see a bump in the reservoir.at the same time, state workers are working round the clock to shore up an emergency spillway next to the one being used. the cement and rocks are arriving at a rate of 12=hundred tons an hour.lotta trucks, lotta helicopters, lotta concrete. it's kinda like a war zonebutte county's sheriff says 150 national guard troops are coming to help deal with the crisis.this is still an emergency situation. it's important for people to be prepared.nearly 200=thousand people remain under an evacuation warning, but were allowed to return to their homes on tuesday.the sheriff says reports of looting were exaggerated. looting is when you have mass ... a bunch of people break into for example a business and completely empty it out. we didn't have anything like that.burglaries regrettably happen all the time.the sheriff didn't have any figures, but did say patrols have been increased, and they managed to catch some people in the act of burglary.in oroville, i'm alecia reid k4n
people are returning to their homes. . . after nearly 200-thousand were evacuated in the area surrounding the oroville dam.several have already returned to their homes. . . but they are being reminded that the lifts could be tentative.crews drained the lake behind the dam to ease the water levels.rain is expected in the forecast which could still affect the dam's spillage crisis.officials still fear that the nation's tallest dam could fail. . and put many homes underwater. trt:22/ "anxious about it" although evacuations were
lifted. . .residents must know that a warning is still in place. happening now in the south bay. crews are back on highway 17where a massive mudslide continue's to wreck havoc. debris from the mudslide is still blocking the northbound lanes between the silicon valley and santa cruz. crews are building an eight-foot berm along the entire length of the slide. that way passing traffic on the southbound lanes will be protected should the slide get worse during the coming wet weather. c-h-p officials are asking drivers officials
are c-h-p officials are asking drivers to keep their eyes on the road as they pass by the ongoing work. police are now investigating a deadly shooting after officers responded to a vehicle crash in san francisco. it happened around two this morning in the area of van ness avenue and eddy street. upon arrival, officers found someone inside a car with head traumathat was later determined to be consistent with a gunshot wound. the victim whose identity is not yet being released, was pronounced dead at the scene. the shooting is now being investigated as a homicide. police say the suspect involvedis currently at large. coming up on kron4 news at eight.. find out which big state is defending president donald trump and his travel ban... plus... an east bay family is now suing the antioch police department... after a man's
new at 8: a gunman opened fire on a muni businjuring a man. now police say they've nabbed the suspect 29-year-old anthony ray was arrested yesterday at a home in vallejo. he's been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, and aggravated assault on a passenger of a streetcar. the shooting happened febuary ninth rail vehicle near the intersection of third and 22nd streets. officers found a 22-year-old man suffering from bullet wounds. that victim was taken to the hospital...where he is still recovering tonight. police are asking for the public's help in catching an east bay burglary suspect. . . they have released a photo. . you can see here. . .they say the crime took place last thursday on heinz avenue near the intersection of seventh street in berkeley.the suspect was filmed on surveillance video. . . at a parking lot. that's were he burglarized a parked car. . .the suspect is
described as a heavy-set black man between the ages of 22-and- 32.police describe the getaway vehicle as a newer model black mercedes with chrome rims. in the east bay... a man's brother is killed outside a gas station and the search for truth begins... a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against an east bay police department-- for not releasing information to the victim's family. tonight the victim's brother tells kron4's haaziq madyun...the reason why he believes police are not releasing that information derrick childs believe he knows why his brother was shot to death by a man in antioch "they both have kids by the same woman""this is my brother right here laying on his back, this is the shooter, this is the officer"the incident happened back on februrary 13, 2016. he says after an investigation of the shooting antioch police told him "that
is was self defense"and you got a problem with that...why? "because i found evidence that contradicts what they are saying, that leads me to believe that it was a murder" and why does he think antioch police would wrongfully classify his brother's death as a self defense killing?"he is an employee of the city of antioch hospital, he is a social worker, so he does interact with officers every day, i do believe there is a possible motive to want to help this gentleman"this week on behalf of his family, derrick childs filed a civil worngful death law suit against the city of antioch, the chief of police and the alleged shooter"i feel like they kind of just wrote him off, he was a local rapper and a barber and he was the father of three children and right now we just want answers"i contacted the antioch city attorney's office about the
