(jr stone) with the hot weather this weekend, officials are reminding people to be safe. the national weather service has issued a heat advisory for the weekend in parts of san francisco and the monterey bay area. kron 4's hermela aregaw spoke to some folks out in the east bay who were enjoying the sun today. record breaking heat in parts of the east bay.oakland saw a record 85 degrees.beating the old record of 83 set in 2013. temperatures in other parts of the east bay are expected to rise into the nineties.inland areas like concord and livermore pose the most dangers.so weather officials reminding people to stay hydrated, limit any extreme outdoor activities and take common sense steps like

story we're following tonight.... it was a tearful reunion between a san francisco mother and her little boy.. who was at the center of an amber alert... the baby's father is accused of taking him to los angeles... where he was found by police six hours after the search began. tonight kron 4's ella sogomonian is live in san francisco. ella you were there when the mom held her baby again what was that like? crowd and killing an 18-year old in times square entered no plea in his first court appearance. prosecutors say 26-year-old richard rojas had said he wanted to quote "kill them all" and that police should have shot him to stop him. a toxicology report shows rojas had p-c-p in his system and they say he has a history of drunk driving. 18-year-old alyssa elsman was killed was visiting new york with her family. her sister also went to the hospital. her father spoke out about the incident... saying he is still in disbelief . (sot) tom elsman / alyssa's father "this is something beyond anything i could ever imagine. you know, my daughter came here for vacation now i'm going to take her home and bury her, you know. i have no words, i really don't. i mean, it's just an empty hollow feeling." the suspect richard rojas...is due back in court next week. (jr stone) new at 10. the body of a father who went missing on mother's dayhas been found in concord. glen kaplan was reported missing last sunday...when he told his family he was leaving for a meeting. at around eleven:20 today... a citizen called police and reported an unresponsive man in a parked car in the area of clayon road and ayers road. at the scene officers determined the deceased man was kaplan. police say there is no indication of foul play surronding the death of the 48-year-old father of two. horseback surrounded the president's motorcade.the pageantry continued inside the royal court... where the king presented the trump with a gold medal.. the nation's highest honor.but the day's big highlight was the signing of a $110 billion arms deal between the two countries.. finalized in part thanks to trump's son-in-law and advisor, jared kushner. president trump: "tremendous investments in the united states and our miliarty community is very happy and we want to thank you and saudi arabia.." the deal aims to bring american-made ships, planes and bombs to saudi arabia.. which can also bolster the country's regional military prowess.rex tillerson / secretary of state: "this huge arms sales package reduces the burden on the us to provide the same equipment to our own military forces and will strengthen saudi security forces for the future so saudi arabia is more capable of carrying their fair share of the burden." president trump is also expected to visit israel, the vatican and belgium before returning to washington.

(justine) first lady melania trump is not following local custom about women covering their heads in saudi arabia. but two years ago, the president tweeted that first lady michelle obama's decision to go bare-headed on a january 2015 visit ... was an insult to the saudis. the first lady follows other female leaders... who did not cover their head while visiting the country.. including former first lady laura bush. and former secretary of state hillary clinton, madeline albright and condoleezza rice. under the kingdom's strict dress code for women...saudi women and most female visitors are required to wear a loose, black robe in public. authorities to declare a state of emergency. heavy rains overnight turned rivers and streams into flash floods in the sumner county region of tennessee. sweeping away over a dozen vehicles...and damaging several buildings. tonight residents from both states are on high alert. "take it seriously, be careful. don't think you can go through it it might be deeper than you expect." according to authorities... no storm related deaths have been reported. more rain is expected in both states next week. day for much of the bay area as temperatures soared into the 80s and low 90s around the bay and valleys. highs were as much as 16 degrees above normal. along the coast there was enough of a breeze and patchy fog to keep temperatures much cooler in the 60s. if you're going out tonight skies will be mostly clear and the temperatures rather mild through midnight. there will be patchy dense fog near the coast. you can see a huge dome of high pressure over california with temperatures heating up aroung the state. some highs in the central valley could reach 100. it looks like this ridge of high pressure will strengthen so we can expect even warmer weather. if you're headed to lake tahoe there's plenty of snow but expect spring skiing conditions with highs in the 70s. there's also the possibility of flooding of many rivers including the truckee river with high snow

(jr stone) today a section of storage in one of the new downtown high rises in san francisco went for 160-grand. (jr stone) according to those at the auction this 90 foot storage area within the lumina san francisco, which is a luxury high rise, was auctioned off for 160-thousand dollars. that is the money paid for the rights to the unit. we did the math and that's one thousand, seven hundred, and seventy seven dollars per square foot. in many sections of the country you could buy a house for that price. in san francisco that gets you the rights.not even the deed but the rights to 90 square feet of storage. the small storage units started at 5-thousand dollars in today's auction, the larger ones started at 15-thousand

(jr stone) san francisco is gearing up for one of its biggest events of the year this weekend. and possibly the only day you can see someone running for miles in a gorilla costume.. bay to breakers is tomorrow... kron4's averi harper explains what's different about this year's race.

it's a wild tradition 105 years old...(nat)more than 2 million runners, walkers and revelers will hit the streets of san francisco for the annual 12k.the aim... running from the san francisco bay to ocean beach... all while having a good time.(chris holmes/ general manager bay to breakers) "it's an unofficial official holiday in san francisco and people all across the city really look forward to that."it may seem like anything goes at the race known for its costumed participants.but they will be enforcing rules."it's something that we really try to work with sfpd on to make sure everyone out there is being safe on the course."no drinking on the course.and no floats are allowed."there is no alcohol allowed on the course and a big thing from a safety standpoint is no floats. i know it was a something that was a part of the past with bay to breakers." race organizers want to limit the nudity and drunkenness the event has become infamous for. tonight we are learning new details about the man arrested in hawaii for rushing the cockpit of an american airlines flight from los angeles to honolulu.(jr stone) we now know he is a turkish national who lives in santa monica. witnesses say he had been drinking earlier in the day and had been arrested earlier in the day as well. friday just after this plane landed safely at honolulu airport a passenger captured this video of fbi agents

detaining anil uskanli a turkish national. witnesses say he tried to storm the cockpit of american airlines flight 31. onlookers say there was no struggle after he was stopped -- but his behavior leading up to the incident was anything but normal.lynn ratner/passenger "he was screaming and talking to himself then he walked up to the front with the blanket on his head."witnesses say uskanli was silent as he walked towards the front of the plane. the flight crew immeditely noticed what was happening.tainoa foster/passenger"they were like can somebody please help. can somebody please help." passengers say a flight attendant used a beverage cart to block the aisle preventing uskanli from entering the first class cabin. lee lorenzen stood with her to help hold the suspect back.lee lorenzen/passenger"he's wedged in. he's pushing and she said you're not coming in here. by then a bunch of guys grabbed him. i was asking what else they could do and they found some duct tape and i think they went back pillows and blankets just to tape into his chair and keep them subdued until he got there." eight people were injured after a passenger plane collided with a truck in los angeles. the aeromexico flight hit a utility truck after landing at l-a-x... firefighters say all eight victims were on the truck - but they are expected to be okay... none of the 146-people on the plane were injured. the collision left the truck overturned near a taxiway. there was no fire or spilled fuel. (justine) one famous san francisco culinary academy celebrated its 40th and final commencement ceremony... hundreds gathered to support the graduates of " le cordon blue " in san francisco. and while many graduates cheered and were happy about their accomplishments...it was a bittersweet occasion as it will be the school's last graduation ceremony. all 16 u-s affiliates of the interanational cooking school will close at the end of this year. the company blames

the federal government's new regulations on career colleges for its closure. (jr stone) this evening in pleasant hill -- the power went out in a shopping center affecting 816 customers. several stores lost power, including michaels, safeway, bed bath and beyond... among others. pg&e was able to restore power around 9:30 p-m. they still don't what caused the shortage -- it's currently under investigation. (justine) a bart train derailed and caused major delays across the peninsula earlier today. but officials say it will not affect sunday service for the bay to breakers. trains are single tracking through between the balboa park and colma stations. it started just before three this afternoon two cars in the middle of a nine-car train... derailed at the daly city station. none of the 24 people aboard the train were injured... and a bus bridge was put in place to help. the cause is still under investigation. a bart spokesperson said that it doesn't appear to be the

(justine) firefighters are trying to contain a wildfire at a national guard camp in san luis obispo county. flames have already burned about five-hundred acres at camp roberts.

officials say the fire is 30- percent contained. the camp is mainly used by the state's army national guard. there are no reports of injuries... and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. (justine) in fresno county.... the "elm fire" has charred more than 10- thousand acres near coalinga. but cal fire says... it is making good progress. the fire is 75-percent contained tonight. crews are currently battling the flames by ground and air .. spraying water and foam. six buildings are threatened leading to a few evacuations. the fire started thursday afternoon and quadrupled in size in a matter of hours. no word yet on what started this fire. (jr stone) new at 10. authorities say the search for a boater who went missing in the pittsburg marina... is suspended. the search for the boater has been put off... until it's light outside. crews say an adult male is still missing tonight. at least one minor has been located. multiple

(anchor) time now to check on our weather... with meterologist lawrence karnow. lawrence karnow: it was a hot day for much of the bay area as temperatures soared into the 80s and low 90s around the bay and valleys. highs were as much as 16 degrees above normal. along the coast there was enough of a breeze and patchy fog to keep temperatures much cooler in the 60s. if you're going out tonight skies will be mostly clear and the temperatures rather mild through midnight. there will be patchy dense fog near the coast. you can see a huge dome of high pressure

over california with temperatures heating up aroung the state. some highs in the central valley could reach 100. it looks like this ridge of high pressure will strengthen so we can expect even warmer weather. if you're headed to lake tahoe there's plenty of snow but expect spring skiing conditions with highs in the 70s. there's also the possibility of flooding of many rivers including the truckee river with high snow melt. it will be a hot day in parts of the bay area tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s inland, 70s and 80s around the bay and much cooler 60s and 70s at the coast. you can see on the 7 day forecast we are going to start the week hot and well above normal. by late on tuesday though the sea breeze will increase and the fog will return to help cool the temperatures starting on wednesday. high pressure will again return to bring warmer weather next weekend. the warriors down in san antonio for game three of the western conference finals--

commiunity center in san jose today... play-well- teknologies... which is a lego- inspired engineering class for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade... partnered with the evergreen community center to see if they can build a popular bay area city... so families got the opportunity to create the city of san jose, as they would like to see it. and this is what they came up with... no word on how long it took to build.
