thursday fire crews worked the hills on both sides of grizzly peak boulevard, putting out hotspots and mopping up from a wildfire that broke out wednesday afternoon in the east bay hills. the fire has not increased in size, remaining at 20 acres.. and it remains at 50 percent containment. fire crews say weather conditions had a lot to do with that.sot deputy chief melinda drayton/oakland fire 22-32we knew humidity was low and temps high but we were fortunate to have light winds and even the gusts project for the evening and possible lightening strikes didn't happenin the meantime uc berkeley police is saying the fire is being investigated as potential arson, specifically "reckless burning". but cal fire which is the lead investigator is saying no such thing.sottheir terminology right now is this fire is an

started as a small fire which firefighters thought they had knocked it down. but, the next day it was still smoldering... the wind picked up the embers and the fire reignited into a raging inferno which raced through the hills. investigators never determined the exact cause of the firestorm. a live look outside right now...(pam) let's get our first look at the weather with chief meteorologist brittney shipp... how are conditions relative to fire concerns? monsoonal moisture overhead will bring a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms going into tomorrow. gradual cooling is expected from friday through the weekend. a weak disturbance will bring another opportunity for showers and thunderstorms over the north bay saturday night into sunday.
