(pam) an out of control firestorm still burning tonight in the north bay ... utter destruction as homes are reduced to ash. and at least ten people are killed ... as more than a dozen wildfires rage tonight.

(pam) thank you for joining us tonight i'm pam moore.(steve) and i'm steve aveson. here is what we know right now a curfew in place in santa rosa--- for the mandatory evacuation zones. it will stay place until sunrise tomorrow here is where we stand tonight. more than 70 thousand acres have burned in at least 12 active fires destroying at least 15-hundred structures...but that number could rise. there have been 10 deaths. seven in sonoma county. two in napa county. and one in mendocino county at this point there are no reported containment numbers on these fires. (pam) now many viewers have asked us to show where the fire is now .. but that is not clear at this hour. fire officials say, right now their priority is saving lives.... not necessarily knocking down the fire itself. (steve) that has some evacuees frustrated as we do not know the full extent of the damage yet.(pam) but kron-4 has been visiting many hard hit communities today. tonight kron-4's justine

waldman begins our coverage. she is live in santa rosa tonight... justine - you spoke with someone who lost their house.. it is an erie and sad sight to see.even through grey smoke still thick in the air you can see the destruction. the devastation in coffey park is beyond comprehension. most of the development is gone.homes are smoldering.cars are burnt and melted.all that is left standing are stone chimneys.kent craigie escaped the fire with his family.. nothing else.his home of 21 years is now burnt to the ground. sot it happened so fast the embers raining down we had time to just run away with nothingnats water on house a group of men tried to stop a fire from spreading, by spraying water on it.even turning a hose on the house still standing next door - trying to save it.sot i know

centers set up throughout the fire area. kron 4's vicki liviakis is live in the newsroom with the update list. (vicki) yeah steve... so many people told to leave their homes and go to safety. some are already at capacity for the night. we've got a list of those that are still taking people in. here are some of them... the center is open at the calistoga fairgrounds in calistoga. the sonoma county fairgrounds in santa rosa. the petaluma community center. neighbors are being asked to go to the santa rosa veterans memorial hall. sonoma valley high school is open as an evacuation center

evacuees are being asked to go to the napa valley college gym. two evacuation centers are open in the city of sebastopol ... one at the sebastopol community cultural center and another at analy high school. and the cloverdale citrus fairgrounds is open as a center as well. in fairfield, there is an evacuation center open at the solano community college parking lot ... elsie allen high school in santa rosa opened its doors. people with small pets can take them to the napa county animal shelter in napa. there is also a shelter open at hessel church in sebastopol. shelters have opened up at cook middle school in santa rosa. the healdsburg community center in healdsburg is open as an evacuation center as well. there are many more shelters... to see the complete list head to our website at kron4.com steve, pam back to you. (pam) the following school districts will be closed again on tomorrow due to the fires

in napa and sonoma counties: howell mountain elementary school district, napa valley unified school district, pope valley union elementary school district and st. helena unified school district. in addition napa valley college, and the offices and programs of the napa county office of education, will also be closed tomorrow. and all classes at sonoma state university have been suspended for tuesday... families and staff are advised to follow public health advice regarding smoke and air quality, and to stay safe. at this time calistoga joint unified school district has not announced district has unified school calistoga joint unified school district has not announced plans for tomorrow. (steve) people in the north bay have been without power all day... right now

99-thousand customers remain without power tonight and the majority of them are in sonoma and napa counties. as a precaution p-g-&-e has turned off gas service to approximately 26-thousand customers in santa rosa, yountville, and kenwood. additionally, another four- thousand customers in the willits to calpella area had their gas lines shut off as well. once p-g-and -e receives to go -ahead from cal-fire, pg&e will turn the power back on.... crews want to remind people in the area to not touch any downed wires or lines... (steve) kron-4's chief meteorologist brittney shipp is here now.(pam) and brittney we know high winds played a role in how fast these fires spread... is that expected to ease up tonight?

( steve ) southern california has its 'own' wildfire problems tonight... including a wind- fueled fire in orange county that has destroyed homes....(pam) the 'canyon' fire also spread quickly today.. catherine heenan is here with the latest......

(catherine) like the wine country fires - the 'canyon' fire blew up because of strong winds....and there have been also thousands of evacuations. we watched large, expensive homes being destroyed by flames...at least 6 of them are gone. more homes are still threatened. t-v cameras showed homes burning in a hilly area known as anaheim hills... evacuations included homes, 2 schools, and the c-h-p shut down parts of the 91and 241 freeways. the fire has grown to 5-thousand acres. authorities are more specifically calling this 'canyon fire 2' -- acknowledging a hugefire in the same area last month. this one also has them worried.. it's not clear yet what started the canyon fire...which has led to more than a thousand evacuations. it's only about 5 percent contained. steve and pam? have been hearing harrowing stories of people fleeing their homes with little warning.((pam))many don't know if they will have a home to return to.kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke with evacuees in napa. i'm at first and hagen road in napa where smoke has filled the sky and a lot of people are having to evacuate from their homes, many of them back down there on vichy road. police are not letting cars down hagen here but they are allowing residents to walk back down hagen and vichy to gather last minute belongings and check on their homes. we spoke to people that live here that say the fire was within 500 feet of their homes and others who say they are afraid they won't have anything to come back to. sot karen dalen/evacuee as you can see the smoke still going strong,

the roads remain packed as people anxiously trey to figure out whether to stay home or evacuate. reporting in napa hermela aregawi kron 4 news (pam) hundreds of residents have lost everything... more than 15- hundred structures have been destroyed. that number is expected to climb once officials have a chance to fully evaluate the large fire zone... (steve) victims are looking for answers... they are frusturated and still in shock by the disaster the firestorm has caused.
