(pam) as 11-thousand firefighters battle back flames in the north bay.... new fires erupt. the 'bear fire' in santa cruz county has already taken a destructive turn.... plus, yet another fire broke out today ... this one in the east bay ... where more evacuations are being lifted. and steve aveson is showing us how napa is taking steps to recover from devastation.(pam) but first, kron four's spencer blake joins us live from santa cruz county ... where a new fire erupted overnight... spencer? (grant) the so-called bear fire erupted overnight in the santa cruz mountains. you can see just massive flames. the fire has burned 200 acres so far. tonight it is only five percent contained. this is burning on bear canyon road...and bear creek road. in boulder creek-- that's in santa cruz mountains. evacuation orders are in place for the areas of las cumbres....and deer creek there are evacution centers open tonight. check kron 4 dot com for

those evacuation centers. we have a (pam) and another fire is erupted in the east bay. at one point, there were mandatory evacuations --- those have now been lifted (grant) the fire broke out in dublin around two this afternoon near tassajara and fallon roads. north of interstate 580 and east of 680. this fire has burned already 118 acres... the alameda county fire department shared this image. containment is now up to 75- percent. crews will be on scene all night making sure hot spots don't flare up. (grant) the other fire that broke out was in sausalito... near highway 101. it started just before

noon... north of spencer avenue. at one point the flames forced all southbound lanes of highway 101 to shut down. tonight...all lanes are back open. the fire burned about four acres. firefighters will stay on scene overnight to monitor the area. (grant) kron-4's meteorologist lawrence karnow is tracking these wildfires.(pam) lawrence are there any weather concerns for crews tonight? temperatures began to cool today as high pressure weakened. this is the beginning of a cooling trend that will have temperatures running below normal through the middle of the week. fires continue to burn but the weather conditions are

improving for firefighters. the winds have been very light. the sea breeze will stretch further on shore over the next few days and the humidity will switch from very dry to almos wet as early as tomorrow. on the satellite and radar you can see the clouds and showers moving into california. most of the rain will be south of monterey. we'll see increascing clouds as this system moves through tonight. on the satellite image you can see the storm developing in the gulf of alaska. this storm will bring a chance of showers late on thursday and into early friday. highs tomorrow will be cooler and in the 80s inland, 60s and 70s around the bay, with 50s to mid 60s at the coast. we will conitinue to cool over the next few days with partly cloudy skies tomorrow. late on thursday there is a chance of showers developing in the north bay and spreading south overnight. warmer and dry weather is exppected this weekend with offshore winds increasing on sunday and into monday. series of wildfires.(grant) here are the latest numbers. containment is up from yesterday on all of the fires you see on your screen. more than 11-thousand firefighters are on the front lines. they are battling 16 large fires across the state. that have burned more than 245-thousand acres. (pam) and as firefighters push back the fires --- more evacuation orders are being lifted.(grant) more people in both napa and sonoma counties are being allowed to return home. that includes the oakmont neighborhood of santa rosa -- where flames burned near homes last week. kron-4's dan kerman joins us live from santa rosa tonight ...dan have you seen neighbors return home? nats c'mon you guys lets get in the

the fire. (grant) the so-called bear fire erupted overnight in the santa cruz mountains. you can see just massive flames. the fire has burned 200 acres so far. tonight it is only five percent contained. this is burning on bear canyon road...and bear creek road. in boulder creek-- that's in santa cruz mountains. evacuation orders are in place for the areas of las cumbres....and deer creek there are evacution centers open tonight. check kron 4 dot com for those evacuation centers. we have a crew on scene tonight. we will have a live update later in the show

the north bay. and since the fires broke out ---we've been hearing so many stories of heroism.(pam) many of them about neighbors helping neighbors. in santa rosa's fountaingrove neighborhood ... many homes there burned to the ground.(grant) but kron4's maureen kelly found one street that is still standing, thanks for a group of residents that banded together to keep their homes, and their neighbors' homes from being i'm on lake park court and neighbors here on this cul de sac and some other neighbors living on the street above banded together to save approximently 22 homes in this area.not once, but three times over three days.this neighbor up on bicentenial way

who owns a heavy equiptment rental place, got a portable water tank and a pump up here .and along with another neighbor who's a retired firefighter and a handfull of homeowners ran water from this pool and beat back the fire burning on the hills around this areauntil firefighters arrived to help up midday monday .it was a big group efforts. with all the neighbors who came around and worked his teams together put now it's gone fires all over the property all the way to the down to the retirement home down there and all the neighbors banded together and worked in teams and they were running around and all working as a team making sure fires are being put out everywhere ricardo uribe had been away from his home when the fire destroyed other homes in the fountaingrove neighborhood and threatened his property..but he jumped in to help when the hill at the end of the cul de sac ignited on tuesday morning. by then, the impromptu fire brigade used fire hoses left behind by firefighters to help squelch those flames which threatened to take out the whole block and then some.if anything we saved was probably the convalescent home back here because the fire was starting again until we came in there with the hosespolice came trying to evacute this block again on tuesday night..when another fire that broke out to

the east.but once again the band of neighbors stayed behind and worked together to put out the fire until a strike team got there. in the end they saved their homes and homes of neighbors who evacuated the area. and made new friends.we lived here for 15 years and i really didn't know the people behind us now he's my buddy were bosom buddiesfriendships forged by fire.helping a stronger community rise from these ashes.maureen kelly kron4 news. (pam) as fire victims turn their attention to re- building... they are being warned about the possibility of scams.(grant) investigators with the contractor's state license board are out in the north bay telling people what to look out for. rick lopes (low-pes) with the contractor's board says there is a good chance unlicensed contractors will try to prey on vulnerable victims. so before you hire a contractor.... ask these questions. are licensed?...and ask to see

that license -- making sure it's current. also beware of people asking for money up-front. and contractors asking you to sign over your insurance check.. sometimes a scammer may also offer to negotiate with your insurance company. for you. lopes says if it sounds too good to be true ---it probably is. (grant) lopes says the message for scammers is ....don't even think about it. if the contractor's board catches an unlicensed contractor in the disaster area ---even if they are just trying to get work. they could face felony charges. time in state prison and up to a 10-thousand dollar fine. four zone forecast now. meteorologist lawrence karnow is here.(pam) lawrence is tracking how the weather conditions are affecting the firefight around the bay temperatures began to cool today as high pressure weakened. this is the beginning of a cooling trend that will have temperatures running below normal through the middle of the week. fires continue to burn but the weather conditions are improving for firefighters. the winds have been very light. the sea breeze will stretch further on shore over the next few days and the

(pam) president trump is voicing support for a bi-partisan deal to restore obamacare subsidies --- only days after he decided to cut off those payments. the president called it a 'short term" deal.... that will only last one to two years. but he is also said, that subsidies -- which help lower- income americans buy insurance -- were simply a boon for insurance companies. the president insists.. he is still intent on fully repealing obamacare -- an effort that has repeatedly failed in congress, despite full republican control.

a judge in hawaii has blocked the latest version of president trump's travel ban. u.s. district judge derrick watson granted hawaii request to temporarily block the federal government from enforcing the policyit was supposed to take effect at midnight wednesday. the new restrictions were to cover eight countries -- chad, iran, libya, north korea, syria, venezuela, somalia and yemen. however judge watson says the travel ban quote "plainly discriminates based on nationality." ahead at eight.. we meet a pair of first responders going out of their way to save family pets in the north bay firestorm and we are tracking the destructive bear fire in the santa cruz mountains. it's already destroyed structures ...a live update ((brittney tease))i'm kron 4 meteorologist lawrence karnow. coming up, i will take a look at your 7 day forecast.details are right after the break.

(pam) containment is up on the major fires burning in the north bay as firefighters make progress.(grant) here is the latest on the firefight up there. more than 245-thousand acres have been charred in the fires. 60 people are still missing in sonoma and napa counties. 41 people total have been killed so far. and today in sonoma county ---police say there have been 18 arrests for theft, looting and burglary. (grant) and despite the devastation... we continue to hear stories of people doing extraordinary things to help their neighbors

(grant) the officers were involved in dragging a man off a united airlines flight...after he refused to give up his seat. officials say one of those officers...a sergeant...also was part of an attempt to cover up some details of the incident...that happened at chicago's o'hare international airport. four officers

were involved in the incident involving passenger david dao...a doctor who had been aboard a flight to kentucky. the department suspended the two other officers. (grant) after being ousted from his own company, disgraced movie mogul harvey weinstein is now officially off its board of directors. according to a source weinstein "resigned" from his board position during a tuesday morning board meeting. on october 5th...a new york times report detailed a decades-long pattern of sxual harassment by weinstein. on october 8th, the board fired weinstein as co-chairman of the studio he founded with his brother, bob. now his brother is also being accused of harassment... but those are allegations that bob weinstein's attorney strongly refutes. as the containment on the north bay wildfires grows... residents are trying to get back to normal.. we're live in downtown napa -- with how people are

they were walking off the property. but that was only after spending a terrifying half hour huddled in their home as the fire raged by....and when it became clear that they were going to die if they didn't get out -- they jumpedinto their swimming pool. daniel pomplun: i actually something on television a long time ago about how to survive a wildfire. we tried to apply as many of the principles we learned from that show as we could. when the flames was at its worst, we would have to dunk down underneath the water, maybe every five seconds or so just to cool off, and then i take a breath or two and then dunk back down. and we did that for maybe 15 minutes, 20 minutes just to keep ourselves cool. cool.
