< there is this pattern of releasing multiple items of merchandise that use women's bodies and breasts> (justine)(cont vo) a popular san francisco coffee chain is facing a lawsuit from former employees who say the founder sexually harrassed and assaulted women who worked there -- and fostered a toxic working environment. good evening, i'm justine waldman. (jr stone) and i'm j.r. stone. eight women listed in friday's suit were former employees of four barrel coffee, who say they were either victims or witnesses. (justine) kron four's spencer blake spoke exclusively with one of those witnesses. he joins us live tonight in san francisco...spencer?

umeko motoyoshi is the woman i spoke with today.she doesn't allege assault or harassment against herself, but says she saw many of the sexually explicit things listed in the lawsuit when they happened. four barrel coffee has multiple locations in san francisco.the mill on divisadero, was open for business as usual sunday, but the coffee bar on valencia, was locked up.many customers were confused by the unnanounced closing for the day "i actually didn't know what was going on until i heard just now, and i just sort of think its odd to close your entire business because of allegations."a lawsuit filed friday claims the company's founder, jeremy tooker, engaged in sexually explicit acts involving employees."what i saw and witnessed there was, first of all, a culture that enabled abuse and assault and harassment to go unchecked." umeko motoyoshi left the company on her own accord in 2015.but the suit alleges that

other employees were fired as retaliation."there was absolutely an environment where employees were punished for complaining about assault and about harassment."it also claims tooker touched women inappropriately, and forcibly kissed some employes.tooker withdrew as c-e-o of the company two months ago, before the suit was filed, and will be giving up his remaining stake in the ownership, regardless of the outcome of the suit.co-owners jodi geren and tal mor published a letter saturday in which they say they will not tolerate inappropriate workplace behavior.they say the plaintiffs mischaracterize the current culture at four barrel, adding that quote, "it's essential that our employees and co-workers understand that they are valued and respected."but beyond behavior, motoyoshi says she also took issue with the merchandise in the stores. "i worked in between these two displays of mugs that said 'f- -- it' and 's--- it.' it was really uncomfortable."in the letter geren and mor say they've hired an outside h-r firm to facilitate reporting of abuses by employees.
