cause for six small fires... all of them ignited hours before the tubbs fire last october.good evening i'm jr stone.(justine) and i'm justine waldman. investigators are pointing to sparking pg&e power poles and strong wind.kron4 's ella sogomonian is live in the newsroom with details. this is not to be confused with the larger north bay fires the cause revealed tonight is specific to a half a dozen that erupted within santa rosa city limits well before. five of the six fires investigated in this report ignited around 8pm on october 8th before the larger tubbs, nunns, or atlas fires so those are still under investigation. the fires in this report burned 10-12 acres and destroyed at least four homes a commercial ilding and an out building and playground at montessori school at three differeent locations: sullivan way, brush creek road, and guerneville road. firefighters who responded to the flames

(jrstone) investigators are on the scene in south carolina after two were killed and more than 100 injured in an early morning train crash involving amtrak and c-s-x freight trains. kim hutcherson from our partners at c-n-n has more. an amtrak train headed to florida from new york and carrying nearly 150 people crashed into a c-s-x freight train... derailing several passenger cars and the lead engine in cayse (casey) south carolina early sunday. two people were killed and

(jrstone)it's expected to raise at least a half million dollars.reporter senerey santos has the story. thousands of people coalesced in downtown ventura's plaza park on saturday for a night of big-name musical entertainment powered by a serious purpose.about 5,000 people packed the park for the sold-out thomas fire benefit festival, which starred performances by grammy award- winning singer olivia newton- john, acclaimed actor kevin costner and his band modern west, superstar

singer-songwriter colbie caillat, swing revival band big bad voodoo daddy, and three-time platinum hip-hop and rap artist super duper kyle.put together by local community members and organizations, the benefit was expected to raise at least half a million dollars for victims of the recent thomas fire, said kevin clerici, executive director of downtown ventura partners, which is acting as fiscal receiver for the funds. sponsors underwrote the entire cost of the event and the artists performed free of charge, allowing every penny of the proceeds to go to those in need, he said.all the artists performed at the benefit free of charge, organizers said. many, including costner, spoke onstage about the hardship caused by the fire, which destroyed hundreds of homes. "we often don't know what to do when this happens, there's no words. but i'd like to say we're the only species on the planet that when something goes like this, we might not know what to say but we know to gather," said costner, whose set included songs called "the sun will rise again" and "stand strong."

(justine) a shooting in san jose sent one woman to the hospital. this happened around midnight on cadillac drive near highway 17. police found the woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. she was

taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. the condition of the woman is unknown at this time. no arrests have been made. (j.r.) another large sideshow in oakland early this morning. police cited numerous drivers and towed a number of vehicles. you can see some of the vehicles that were taken away in this video. police reported the sideshow around 2 o'clock this morning ... in the area of high street and foothill boulevard near fremont high school. according to police, spectators broke windows of businesses and threw bottles at officers. last weekend there were two major sideshows in the east bay. this is surveillance video from the chp chopper that was monitoring one of those two in oakland. someone there pointed a green laser pointer at the chp helicopter. one person was arrested in that case. in richmond there was a sideshow last sunday as well. an officer was hit and suffered a head and shoulder injury. two people were

(justine) police arrested a suspect accused of breaking into cars at the rockridge bart station early this morning. a witness says they saw the man break into multiple cars in the bart parking lot. police later arrested andrew friedman of oakland on suspicion of auto burglary and possession of stolen property. officers say a total of five vehicles were broken into. (justine) jack walcott is a homeless man who's just trying to get by. he's also very talented. you may have seen photos of "jack jack" on social media -- his balancing acts have made him something of a local celebrity. reporter nicole comstock has the story from stockton.
