(jrstone) it's the biggest day of the year for super bowl fans... and people across the bay area gathered to watch the big game. good evening... i'm justine waldman. (justine) and i'm jr stone. today... law enforcement was in full force... looking for people driving under the influence after the big game. kron 4's hermela aregawi spent the afternoon with some of the officers on duty... she joins us live with details. chp officers are certainly be busy tonight now that the game is over. we are told there are additional officers patroling the streets and highways.. looking for distracted and drunk drivers.

someone driving under the influence.officer joaquin arias/chp san franciscoso a lot of time you can see it just by their eyes, we contact tons of people every day so we see what regular eyes look like so when we see someone who is impaired, it's red its watery you can see it..the second thing we also look for is out sense of smell so we smell alcohol. a lot of time as soon as you roll down the window, alcoholic beverage is emitting from the vehicle officers reminding people if you are caught driving under the influence, you can be sent to jail.. and pay up to 10-thousand dollars in fines. reporting live in san francisco hermela aregawi, kron 4 news. (justine)(oncam last month... chp officers arrested more than 300 people across the bay area for driving under the influence. it was part of the "enough is enough" zero tolerance campaign. chp says 13 of those arrests were solely marijuana-related. (jr) a man was arrested on friday night for driving under the influence in petaluma.

you can see the truck on its side in these photos. when police arrived on scene, they found the driver stuck on the passenger side of his truck. officers say john barella was traveling southbound on elm drive when he lost control and crashed into a parked car. barella blew more than double the legal limit. he was arrested for a d-u-i. (justine) an undercover sting nets 13 -suspected unlicensed contractors ... allegedly trying to take advantage of people already victimized in the north bay wildfires. as kron 4's maureen kelly reports - the sonoma county district attorney plans to make an example of these contractors. don't do what they did but we're gonna come after youthis weekend the contractors state liscense board brought a number of people advertising on craigslist as contractors to this santa rosa house

damaged by the fire and asked for bids. the bid for basically the same job very from 850 all the way to $13,000. so they're all over the board it really is par for the course for unlicensed contractors because there's no saying these people know what they're doing now 13 people are facing misdemeanor charges of illegal advertising, and 12 are facing felonies ....10 of which are for contracting without a liscense...and because of the recent diaster....they are facing stiffer penalities. the penalty is stiffer right now we are under a disaster declaration so it is a felony. it's punishable by a term of three years.more stings are planned as the rebuilding effort ramps up.....but every week state investigators like this man here are out conducting compliance checks...making sure those helping fire victims rebuild are legit. he says they are already seeing unliscenced tree removal and debris cleanup out here.but expects to see a lot more of this type of shady conduct as the work

(justine) a man is behind bars tonight...accused of carrying a loaded gun... marijuana...and 38 grams of heroin in santa rosa. 37-year-old tyler harrison smith was arrested thursday afternoon on cleveland avenue...at the hotel santa rosa. a sheriff's deputy patrolling the area noticed a man going through a duffle bag in a lexus. officers say they found 38 grams of heroin...a loaded handgun..ammu nition...a stun gun..and marijuana in harrison's posession. (j.r.) another large sideshow in oakland early this morning. police cited numerous drivers and towed a number of vehicles. you can see some of the vehicles that were taken away in this video. police reported the sideshow around 2 o'clock this morning ... in the area of high street and foothill boulevard near fremont high school. according to police, spectators broke windows of businesses and threw bottles at officers. last weekend there were two major sideshows in the east bay. this is surveillance video from the chp chopper that was monitoring one of those two in oakland. someone there pointed a green laser pointer at the chp helicopter. one person was arrested in that case. in richmond there was a sideshow last sunday as well. an officer was hit and suffered a head and shoulder injury. two people were eventually arrested in that case.

(justine) police say a man has died after an early morning shooting in oakland. it happened around 11 a-m yesterday on market street near the oakland-berkeley border. when officers arrived, they found one man suffering from a gunshot wound. he was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. his name has not been released pending the notification of his family. the shooting is still under investigation. (jr) a shooting in san jose sent one woman to the hospital. this happened around midnight on cadillac drive near highway 17 and castlemont elementary school. police found the woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. she was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. the condition of the woman is unknown at this time. no arrests have been made. a half mile away...a woman walking on sutter avenue saw a mountain lion frolicking around. luckily the animal... didn't show any aggressive behavior.... it ran off. officers are currently combing the area... looking for the two cats. (justine) police arrested a suspect accused of breaking into cars at the rockridge bart station early this morning. a witness says they saw the man break into multiple cars in the bart parking lot. police later arrested andrew friedman of oakland on suspicion of auto burglary and possession of stolen property. officers say a total of five vehicles were broken into.
