(assaulted deputy is heard screaming) "...shots fire, shots fired, deputy down..." this is video from deputy august waltrip's body camera seconds after he opened fire on a female suspect who had just attacked his partner with a patrol car. sheriff jim hart identified her as 26 year old jessica lowe.jim hart/santa cruz county sheriff "...lowe had weaponized the vehicle, so she is in a 4,000 pound weapon and now also has access to an m-4 assault rifle..."(injured deputy calling for back-up)"i am injured, shots fired, she's trying to come back around..." from his own body cam video, the injured deputy can be heard screaming in agony while

calling for back-up. more gunshots are heard as the suspect keeps coming at them dep chief craig wilson "....there were plenty of opportunities for the suspect to choose not to use the vehicle to assault the deputy, to drive away, this was a deliberate assault on the deputes..."the wild scene erupted shortly after the two deputies had stopped a suspected stolen car on ocean street extention last friday. a man and woman were handcuffed in the back seat of separate cars when the woman slipped the cuffs, got into the driver's seat of that vehicle and went after the deputies.(more body cam video) two separate volleys of gunfire can be heard on the video. the woman was hit three times. both she and the injured deputy, who has not been identified, will survive. pinned between the two vehicles and fearing for his and his fellow deputy's life, officerwaltrip had no choice. rob fladeboe/santa cruz ".....no information was released about that second suspect. jessica lowe remains hospitalized but she was arraigned today nonetheless on multiple felony charges including attempted murder. in santa cruz rob fladeboekron4news

(pam) in alameda county - body camera video shows the moments a man is attacked by a sheriff's k-9... it happened after he was pulled over during a traffic stop. (ken)the video shows.. the man is in handcuffs at the time of the attack. the alameda county sheriff's department says, the dog was áaccidentallyá released ... but the man who was attacked is now demanding action. (estacio) i just caught up with josh phillips as he was leaving highland hospital here in oakland, his wounds starting to bleed again. (take vo) you can see the two puncture wounds right here (take vo) take a look at this cell phone video it was early monday morning- when alameda county sheriff's deputies pulled over josh and his friends for a suspected dui. josh says he had been drinking, but was not under the influence. he had just got off work and was following a co-worker home. before he was able to comply with the deputies request for a field sobriety test, he says a police dog all of a sudden lept out of the car and started biting him. josh phillips. he attacked me.

he bit me. i am hurt real bad. this is awful, i can't walk, i can't work. i did nothing wrong. the dog should not be a police dog, he did not comply with the officer telling the dog to stop.sgt. ray kelly. this was an unfortunate accident. the button to pop open the door to the canine unit got pushed. (continue vo) alameda county sheriffs department spokesperson ray kelly demonstrated the button system with another dog. this dog here, not involved in monday's incident. but is a member of the departments canine unit. sgt kelly says there is now an internal review of the entire incident. in the meantime, phillips is on his way home from the hospital. he

into the air and rivers of molten rock stretch for miles. the u.s. geological survey says that there have been two news explosions near the summit of kilauea volcano on hawaii's big island. the volcano is spewing a near continuous cloud of ash reaching 10,000 feet. the volcano is also now emitting 15,000 tons of sulfur dioxide each day, although winds are carrying most of the gas offshore.lava flows from the volcano now stretch 25 miles and have reached the ocean where molten rock hitting the water is exploding like fireworks. it's also sending hydrocloric acid and shards of glass like material flying through the air.the lava flow is also threatening the puna goethermal plant, which provides a quarter of the island's electricity. hoping to prevent gas leaks and a possible explosioncrews have been working to shutdown several wells at the plant.as the volcano spreads, neighbors are left scrambling to adjust. officials gave this school just two days to evacuate before it is lost to the lava. sotof course its saddening. we are taking video and pictures and hoping the lava will end up stopping.other neighbors, who homes have so far been sparred, have been warned to be prepared to leave at a moments notice.sotwe are ready to leave in 10 minutes if we have to and then it's all gone. sotit shows me the power of god, the power of our

(pam) in the east bay-- a hayward officer is injured after a suspect hits her with a metal bar... causing the officer to open fire. it happened last night on hewitt place .. which is just down the street from sorensdale park. police say, they got a call from someone in an argument with their roommate. the roommate had the car keys and would not give them back. police tried talking to the suspect. when they went to detain him.. he aggressively pulled away. then.. he grabbed a metal bar and hit the officer. the officer fired her gun ...striking him, the suspect is now in critical, but stable condition. (pam) new at ten: for the first time, we are hearing from the man who opened fire on a texas church last november, killing 25 people and an unborn child.(ken)the video, taken five years before the mass shooting, shows devin kelley confessing that he is a troubled man with a short temper and a tendency to solve problems with violence.jaie avila reports.

devin kelley:"nobody really knows why i'm suicidal. nobody in the world knew what i knew, and nobody really ever is going to be able to get into my brain to really see everything, i guess, that's happened."so, what did happen to devin kelley?dressed in a fleece hoodie and sporting a familiar military crew cut, kelley records, repents, and appears resigned to his situation as not just a spouse and child abuser... but as a violent and troubled individual.devin kelley:"it can happen in a split second. it only takes a few seconds to lose control."in a rambling 20-minute long confession on camera, kelley's words echo off of blank walls. he is speaking to a judge, he says, against the advice of attorneys, in an effort to ensure his ex-wife receives custody of the child who he admits beating repeatedly when they lived together - striking the baby numerous times, breaking his shoulder blade, shaking him violently, and cracking his skull.devin kelley:"i think when you're under a lot of stress, sometimes, you know, you can't handle it anymore, and you do

outrageous things that you would never do, like hit a baby."kelley says the way he handled his stepson is how he handled all of his problems - with anger and outbursts. he says his actions can be traced back to elementary school, where he says he was bullied. devin kelley:"you can only hold it in so much. you can like and try to push it away, but eventually it comes to the surface. you can't deal with it. you can't take the shame. you can't take the secrets and the lies. it's too much to bear."kelley says in sixth grade he started hitting and acting out to combat the bullying he endured; fighting back with violence in an effort to be the "top dog," as he put it.devin kelley:"we all suffer the consequences of the mistakes we make, and i happened to make one. unfortunately, this is not going to be the ... this is not the first mistake, and this is not the last mistake of probably many to come unfortunately. i try my best not to get to that place."but "get to that place" he did: five years later, kelley would go on to kill 26 people at the first baptist church in

sutherland springs: a congregation filled with friends and acquaintances of his ex-wife's family.his actions eerily suggested in the video made years earlier: devin kelley:"i don't think adults change. i don't think people change. i believe in miracles. i believe in angels. i believe in demons. and i think for most people, they're going to be who they are and live their lives out based on the choices they make."despite the tears, the one thing noticeably absent from the video is an apology for his acts of violence. instead, kelley indicates he'll await a more permanent judgment.devin kelley:"just hoping on the day, my last day, whenever that is, whatever date that is, only god can forgive me." in san antonio, jaie avila reporting.
