(grant) thanks for joining us, im grant lodes...(vicki) and im vicki livakis.... it happened at a home on raymond avenue in sa jose... tonight, the community held a candlelight vigil for the slain man ... kron 4's ali reid joins us live from police headquarters tonight ... what's the latest on the investigation? the community banded together tonight remembering the man that did everything for his family.he and his wife moved into the home soon after she was pregnant with their first child.eight years later, he was gunned down right in front of that very home.28 year old frankie santos jr. was out with friends on saturday celebrating the 49er draft nightfall they were back at his raymond avenue home... family members tell me just just after 1-30 sunday morning, tragedy struck.he

(grant) the labor day weekend is wrapping up... but the c-h-p still has extra officers out on the roads as part of its maximum enforcement period. in just the past three days, c-h-p has reported more than a dozen deaths and nearly one thousand d-u-i arrests...state wide. during the first six hours of the holiday weekend, c-h-p says six people were killed and 307 d-u-i arrests were made... by sunday morning, 10 drivers and pedestrians died and c-h-p had made 685 dui arrests. by late sunday evening, 17 people had been killed, including a motorcyclist and d-u-i arrests had jumped to 969. maximum enforcement

(vicki) the dangerous weekend has hit close to home here in the bay area where we've seen a number of accidents. d-u-i drivers aren't getting away though. last night in san leandro a woman in her 20's was arrested and it was all caught on camera. kron 4's j.r. stone is following the story and joins us live from san leandro. j.r. this dui injured an older woman... (j.r.) it did and witnesses told me that they could smell the alcohol on this young woman who was arrested by san leandro police.this is cell phone video from witnesses who watched the arrest go down. you can see the young woman in handcuffs here. police say the suspect they arrested is 25 years old. witnesses tell me she ran a red light and crashed into the prius of another woman who is 63 years old according to officers. witnesses say the suspect either spilled alochol, or liquid on herself or peed her pants. this happened at east 14th and davis street in san leandro. a major intersection

in the city. those witnesses say that after the collision they could hear the suspect trying to start her car. it wouldn't start though and she was arrested on suspicion of dui a short time later. amy brown lives nearby and says it's upsetting that someone would chose to get behind the wheel in a situation like this. i mean there's so many ways to get around you don't have to drive your vehicles to get around anymore if you know you're drinking why drive your own car.(j.r.)in this case the woman in the prius was taken to the hospital. her condition is unknown but she was able to walk to the ambulance. it has been a very tragic weekend with more than double the fatality collisions in comparison to last labor day weekend. fortunately no one was killed in this incident. reporting live in san leandro, j.r. stone kron 4 news.

placer county forced the evacuation of several campgrounds. it is being called the north fire, and it is burning in the tahoe national forest...near the north fold campground. this is south of interstate 80 and east of blue canyon. so far the fire has spread to 650 acres, but that number is expected to grow. the placer county sheriff's office is telling people to avoid the area of emigrant gap..they say there is heavy traffic in both directions as people try to get out of the area. we will stay on top of this story and bring you any updates. lawrence karnow: a tropical storm is moving across florida and could become a hurricane before coming onshore in the gulf. the air quality suffered today but should begin to improve over the next couple of days. high pressure will weaken a little allowing for a cool sea breeze and better air quality. highs will be in the 80s and low 90s

(vicki) bart police are still looking for the man who punched a station agent over the weekend. it happened this weekend at the macarthur station in oakland...the scene of several crimes over the summer. police say two women flagged down a station agent to report a man who was harassing them outside the station. we're told when that station agent approached...the suspect came from behind and punched the agent in the face. the agent suffered a large cut to his face. the suspect took

off. bart police say they are looking at station video of surveillance from nearby buildings to help try to identify the man. (vicki) the mother of a cancer patient is pleadng for the return of her medical the return of her medical records. after thieves broke into their car and stole her bag with the important information inside...(grant) it all happened when the two made a quick stop on their way home from another round of chemotherapy at oakland children's hospital... kron 4's ella sogomonian met with the victims in el cerrito in a story you'll only see here on kron4... bella robinson was diagnosed with brain cancer three years ago. she's been in and out of the oakland children's hospital ever since for chemotherapy.after her last visit friday, she and her mom made a stop to by a video game and coffee for some comfort at el cerrito plaza...but when they came back to their car ...the back window was shattered and years of her medical records were gone. sot: bella robinson, victim// "it was just shocking and unbelievable and it made me

just super upset, of course. it made be feel violated and it made me very angry that that someone could be so careless."bella and her mom carefully track the progess of her tumor and took extensive notes in a notebook that looks a lot like this..that they say are crucial for her treatment. we can always get a copy of the print out that they give you that they give yo uat the end of the appointment but yo ucant get a copy of waht they said to yo uthat can sometimes go on for an hour. questions back and forth and answers." along with the medical records... her mother who is a pastry chef, had two thumbdrives inside the stolen black tote bag with the only copy of hundreds of recipes she was saving for a second cook book.the single mom and daughter team have braved through a lot in life but now really need the help from the least likely people...the very thieves who burglarized their car.they beg whoever took their precious files to return them to police no questions asked. sot: cindy mushet, mother// "just drop it off and we would be happy to give a reward and a huge hug for being such a good person." normally mushet says she is more careful, but the two were exhausted after a long day at the hospital.they are one of three cars targeted in smash in grabs at the plaza that day. in el cerrito ella sogomonian kron 4 news.

bay area a thousand dollar iphone just sitting here a few feet away from the front door with not much in the way apple stores have unarmed security guards that do not engage physically they are there as a visual deterrent and to act as witnesses. the iphones and ipads had no security ropes attached to them at the burlingame apple store. the laptops did have a security rope but a very flimsy one.. easy to rip out.. over the last two weeks across the bay area, similar thefts, involving small groups of hooded individuals took place in apple stores in santa rosa, corte madera, emeryville, walnut creek, and now the latest one on sunday at 1130am in burlingame.burlingame police said 4 men ran into the store grabbed $50,000 worth of gadgets and jumped into a grey volvo getaway car. burlingame police say all these apple store burglaries may be connected, they are investigating it that way, but they are not saying at this time that it's the same people doing the crimes. stand up - you may be wondering if apple has some technology they can put in these devices that would render them useless if they were stolen from the store like a bank teller would be color dye and bank robbers well i looked into it. the devices stolen from an apple store would be wiped remotely my iphone feature, and marked as stolen, so if to activate them with cell service, it would not work. but, when selling the stolen goo

(grant) new tonight at nine....rescuers have recovered the body of one missing woman after a boat crash on the colorado river. they say 51-year-old christine lewis was found this morning, two days after the incident. and as adrianna weingold reports, families and friends are still holding out hope for three other people who are still missing. as dive teams continue their search for the 3 boaters still missing from a horrific accident on the colorado river, family and friends of one of the missing, kirra drury are still holding out hope she'll be found alive. chris byrd, kirra drury's family friend :"i love her and i just wish for the best."the accident happened saturday night near the mohave regional park about 290 miles east of los angeles at the california- arizona border.investigators say two boats collided head on. a total of 16 people were ejected during the crash.four people were unaccounted for,

until this morning when 51 year old christi lewis from visalia was found dead.three people are still missing, one man and two women--kirra drury from ventura and her best friend raegan heitzig.the two posted these photos to instagram, celebrating the holiday weekend on the river. chris byrd, kirra drury's family friend :"we don't know. no one news what happened with kirra, but i'm hoping for the best."kirra's boyfriend lance nelson was also on the boat, but posted this picture the day after the crash, of the two of them kissing, with the caption "please come back, kirra"now the community of ventura is rallying behind kirra and raegan, setting up a go fund me page as family heads wait for word from officials. strengthening over the next 24 millions of people along the gulf coast are preparing for what could become a category one hurricane by the time it makes landfall. reporter john lorinc has the details.. tropical storm gordon drenched south florida and the keys for labor day...bringing with it strong winds, heavy rain and dangerous beach conditions.sot chief lifeguard hallandale beach, fl"anytime you have winds out of the east, northeast like we have today, its the strong winds that will create rip currents. the big wavesalso help to create those rip currents."florida's governor reminding residents that this is the peak of hurricane season.urging residents to get prepared.the storm is gaining strength by the hour...with several watches and warnings in effect for about 2 million gulf coast residents from florida to louisiana.sot governor john bel edwards, louisiana"this storm is still a very real threat to louisiana."officials in new orleans are taking no chances preparing for what's to come.sot mayor latoya cantrell new orleans"because the combined threat of existing coastal flooding and the increased surge from gordon i am asking residents outside the levee protectionto 1. exercise extreme caution. at this time i am also issuing a voluntary evacuation order, only, for areas outside e levee system."gordon is expected to make landfall sometime tuesday evening along the gulf coast.i'm john lorinc reporting.

(vicki) a strong show of support today from organized labor. the south bay labor council's annual labor day picnic featured the music of the late woodie guthrie... plenty of barbecue and a reminder that as the labor movement in america grows... the unempoyment is at an 18 year low. the labor council says wages are stagnant, particulary among unionized workers... especially in the private sector, where union membership has fallen to roughly 11- percent. a recent gallup poll found that 62-percent of american now support labor unions. people marched to protest hotel worker contracts.(grant) enough>(grant) according to "unite here.." thousands of marriott employees in san francisco and across the continent have been working without contracts for weeks. they're asking for job security and workplace safety... and are threatening to strike. 75 hotel workers were arrested for blocking a street. hotel workers held similar labor day strikes in boston, detroit, seattle, san diego, and hawaii. (vicki) an outpouring of support for a bay area girl...who was the victim of a crime.(grant) she was riding her bike home from her first week of school when she was run down in a car by thieves who stole her backpack. night as a group of people were playing a dice game - and among those hurt is a teenager. police say the 17-year- old victim is in grave condition tonight... the shooting happened in a common area at a san bernardino apartment complex. police say the shooters may have used handguns and rifles. stray bullets struck the building, apartment windows in the courtyard and parked cars... but what frustrates investigators is despite all the people outside, no one is cooperating with detectives... (pam) good evening -- i'm pam moore.(ken) and i'm ken wayne. the dangerous weekend on the highways has hit close to home here in the bay area where we've seen a number of accidents. d-u-i drivers aren't getting away though. last night in san leandro a woman in her 20's was arrested and it was all caught on camera. kron 4's j.r. stone is following the story and joins us live from san leandro. j.r. this d-u-i injured a woman... (j.r.)it certainly sent a 63 year old woman to the hospital. this case was one of about a thousand dui arrests that took place this holiday weekend across the state. sot we had just gotten home and settled in and all of a sudden we just heard a big bang.amy brown is describing the
