( darya ) a big story we are following this morning... pittsburg police release new body camera video showing a violent arrest from over the weekend.( james ) the video has gone viral and police say they are now investigating the officer's use of force. kron 4's sara stinson is live at the pittsburg police station this morning with the details. pittsburg police released body

cam footage of the entire arrest because they say cell phone videos started to circulate through the area and videos from far away do not tell the full story.a quick warning it gets a bit graphic towards the end.take vo:here you can the officer approaching the 31-year-old man last saturday.officers say they confronted him because they believed he may have been stealing gasoline from cars. police say he had his hand in his right pocket as if he was concealing something from the officers view...they asked him to drop whatever he had and a crow bar dropped from his jacket.eventually you see the officer throwing the man to the ground and then punching him several times in the area

of power avenue.police say the suspect was not handcuffed despite many speculating that he was.he told police he didn't trust them and to just shoot him.police are calling the punches "distraction blows" used to get handcuffs on him.the man was ( darya ) thanks sara. we will check back with you through out the morning. ( james ) breaking overnight... five people are stabbed including three infants in an attack at a daycare in new york. the victims were found around 3:30 this morning. they are all expected to survive, although one is in serious condition. a female daycare worker was also found with stab wounds in her body, along with the

father of one of the children, who was stabbed in the leg. police say the suspect -- a 52-year-old woman -- also worked at the daycare and was found in the basement of the building. she had self- inflicted knife wounds on her wrist. she is now in police custody. ( james ) happening now... police in san jose are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a 77-year-old woman. it happened on vista park drive near copperfield drive. the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a dark blue mini-van or s-u-v. this is the city's 33rd deadly collision and the 14th involving a pedestrian. ( darya ) new this morning... an east bay woman is going to prison for a murder that happened decades ago. marsha carter was killed back in december 1983. this is a picture of carter. police found a pool of blood in her richmond home. her body was found 10 days later in the trunk of her car in west sacramento. at that time... investigators didn't have a suspect. in

2008... they reopened the case. sherill lynn smothers was arrested in 2016. she'll be sentenced next week. ( darya ) in the east bay... we're now learning the details of a machete attack in fremont. a 28-year old man is now in custody. the attacked happened sunday night. the victim -- john mosley -- suffered traumatic injuries... he could lose sight in one eye. but is expected to survive. mosley's daughter says zekria joyaa attacked her father without warning. joyaa told police he does ánot remember the attack. joyaa is expected in court next week. ( darya ) san francisco police arrested a man in connection to a series of strong arm robberies in the portola district. police arrested 29-year-old michael crayton. police say crayton robbed 4 women. ( james ) we're learning more about the arrest of a 19- year-old accused of trying to rape a woman in menlo park. we first told about the

arrest tuesday morning. police say the victim was jogging on woodland avenue... when rogelio artiga started running towards her. artiga asked the woman if she liked to dance. the woman ignore him... but police say artiga followed her... and dragged her into the bushes. the woman was able to break free. ( james ) san mateo's district attorney says the woman's screams scared artiga off. police say home surveillance video helped them catch artiga. ( james ) in the north bay... sonoma county and the city of santa rosa are getting ready to mark the one year anniversary of the october firestorm. next saturday... the santa rosa holistic chamber of commerce is hosting a free healing fair at the veterans building. that event will include a silent auction and live music. and on october 8th... a ceremony will be held at courthouse square. it will

include a memorial bell ringing for the 24 people killed. attendees are also welcome to share their grief through chalk art on the sidewalks. ( darya ) new this morning... oakland's urban search and rescue task force is back home... after helping out in north carolina. this is video of their return. the team rescued 2 national guardsmen and 2 adults who were stranded in a military high-water vehicle... stuck in about 8 feet of water. the team used inflatable rescue boats and successfully got all 4 people to safety. ( darya ) police arrested four people with three loaded handguns and drugs near a school. on wednesday police stopped a car near the santa rosa charter school on humboldt street. there were two men and two 17-year- old boys in the car.one of the men and and one of the teens ran away. they were both caught after a short foot chase. the other two who stayed behind in the car were arrested without incident. here is a picture of the guns and the drugs police found. the two men are now in county jail.one of the teens was sent to juvenile hall for being in a gang.was released to his

parents. ( james ) san mateo's district attorney says the woman's screams scared artiga off. police say

home surveillance video helped them catch artiga. ( darya ) happening today... the families of stephon clark and mikel mcintyre will rally at the state capitol... they want governor brown to sign a several justice reform bills. sacramento police fatally shot clark back in march. officers thought he had a gun... but he actually was holding a cell phone. mcintyre was fatally shot by sacramento county deputies last year. his mother says he was shot while running away from deputies. the bills they want signed include the release of signed include the release of an officer's the release of signed include the release of an officer's records to juvenile justice reform. ( darya ) the cupertino city council did approve the constructon of nearly 3-thousand homes in the old vallco mall wednesday night... and believes their housing is in line... with where it should be. ( james )in the north bay ... police arrested four people with three loaded handguns and drugs near a school. on wednesday police stopped a car near the santa rosa charter school on humboldt street. there were two men and two 17-year-old boys in the car. one of the men and and one of

the teens ran away. they were both caught after a short foot chase. the other two who stayed behind in the car were arrested without incident. here is a picture of the guns and the drugs police found. the two men are now in county jail.one of the teens was sent to juvenile hall for being in a gang.the other teen was released to his parents. ( james )a sacramento family is demanding the person who hit and killed a 14-year-old boy got to the police. this is surveillance video that shows a car taking off at high speeds. c-h-p says the driver took off with the teen still on the hood of the vehicle. family members say 14-year-old desean rowe- manns was a student at mira loma high school. he was riding bikes with friends wednesday morning when he fell into the roadway and that's when the vehicle struck him. rowe-manns' fmaily says they hope someone saw something and will come forward.

hearing... if they can agree on terms that are fair... and that ensure her safety. ford's lawyers want kavanaugh to testify first. and they're opposed to outside counsel questioning their client ... instead of senators themselves. also... ford does not want kavanaugh in the same room. kavanaugh at monday's senate hearing. ( darya ) supporters gathered in front of ford's palo alto home yesterday. many carried signs praising her courage for coming forward. they call ford a woman of integrity... and blasted those who doubt her. < "...she needs to know that her community is behind her and that we believe her. that's the first thing, the second thing is that we are very frustrated with out senate judiciary committee. these are mostly republicans, older white men and they are not showing an ounce of empathy..." >( darya ) there was a similar scene at the nation's capitol... where

( darya )in solano county... the man convicted in federal court in a kidnapping-for- ransom case... is now facing six new charges and will have the chance to question his victims. matthew muller has been granted the right to act as his own attorney.. and because of that, he will have the opportunity to question denise huskins and aaron quinn about the kidnaping and rape crimes... involving the two of them. muller will also be granted access to evidence... including two videos showing the rape of huskins. dan russo is quinn's attorney. he believes muller ... who is a harvard educated lawyer ... is relishing the opportunity. russo says, huskins and quinn are prepared for the showdown in court - but acknowledge it will not be easy. muller is already serving a 40-year sentence in federal court. if convicted on the new charges against him... he could be sentenced to life. ( james )an inmate who escaped from a conservation work camp in nevada county.... has been caught here in the bay area. justin tyquiengco was found at a gas station in san leandro yesterday afternoon.. he had been serving a six- year sentence for robbery with a firearm ... in contra costa county. he walked away from the inmate camp earlier this week. ( james )in the east bay... oakland police say a stand-off between officers and a man who they thought was armed... ended without any shots fired. we first brought you this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. police were called to the 14-hundred block of seminary avenue for reports of a man with a gun. shortly after police arrived on scene a stand-off began.

( darya ) california school will ánot start later. governor brown has vetoed legislation that would have required middle and high schools to start no earlier than 8-30 a-m. brown sided with opponents of the bill who say that local school boards should decide how to run their schools -- not the state. supporters had argued research shows that later school start times can mean better grades... attendance..an d graduation rates ( darya ) in san francisco... there is a proposal to overhaul the current lottery system that places students in public elementary schools. the idea is to give parents at least a little more certainty about their options.

based on where you live you can be either certain that there's one school or a set of schools that you're gonna have access to and you can rely on that">( darya ) the proposal to revamp the system will come up at next tuesday's school board meeting... and voted on later this fall. even if it passes... there would be parent input and analysis to determine how it would all work. officials say that could mean three years... before the changes happen. ( james )a mural in san francisco's mission district that was repeatedly vandalized .... has been restored and revamped. kron4's maureen kelly talked to one of the artists behind the mural... he explains how a change in the design... has been sucessfully warding off taggers. he has a crack in his ear, but it's protected it's all good carlos kookie gonzlez is checking out his recently updated mural....now it's centerpieces are civil rights leaders cesar chavez and dolores huerta....but that

wasn't always the case.when he first helped create it back in the 80's...it was simply snapshots of people in the neighborhood.this is my best friend johnny's mom and big sister when she was a baby. then 10 years later i the now retired probation officer added cultural icons to the faces on the wall......with cesar chavez at the heart of the piece.but it was what was painted next to him...that became a magnet for repeated vandalism over the years.the mural kept getting vandalized and the farmworker's eagle, the symbol of united farmworkers eagle, kept getting vandalized because it was adopted by gangs so it' kept getting tagged by rivals in august gonzalez and a team of other muralists repainted it for a third time....this time covering the eagle with the face of the woman who was the co founder of the untied farm workers....labor leader dolores huerta. whoever tagged it caused the restoration of the whole muralthere was outrage at first but now it's like wow maybe we should thank the guy that tagged itstandup since dolores huerta's face

( james ) d-m-v offices are looking to get back on track today... after more than a third were crippled by a computer outage yesterday. the d-m-v blamed the outage on a "router issue." as a result, offices were unable

to process driver's license and vehicle registration matters. it was discovered around 7 or 8 a-m... but was resolved a few hours later. the d-m-v has been under scrutiny amid a rapid spike in wait times. the agency also botched about 23-thousand voter registrations under a new state law that lets people update their voter information with their driving records. ( darya ) a big story we are following this morning... pittsburg police release new body camera video showing a violent arrest from over the weekend.( james ) the video has gone viral and police say they are now investigating the officer's use of force. kron 4's sara stinson is live at the pittsburg police station this morning with the details. pittsburg police released body cam footage of the entire arrest because they say cell phone videos started to circulate through the area and

videos from far away do not tell the full story.a quick warning it gets a bit graphic towards the end.take vo:here you can the officer approaching the 31-year-old man last saturday.officers say they confronted him because they believed he may have been stealing gasoline from cars. police say he had his hand in his right pocket as if he was concealing something from the officers view...they asked him to drop whatever he had and a crow bar dropped from his jacket.eventually you see the officer throwing the man to the ground and then punching him several times in the area of power avenue.police say the suspect was not handcuffed despite many speculating that he was.he told police he didn't trust them and to just shoot him.police are calling the punches "distraction blows" used to get handcuffs on him.the man was arrested for resisting arrest and violating the terms of his probation.officers do believe he was stealing gas - but that is still being investigated.

( james ) happening now... police in san jose are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a 77-year-old woman. it happened on vista park drive near copperfield drive. the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a dark blue mini-van or s-u-v. this is the city's 33rd deadly collision and the 14th involving a pedestrian. ( darya ) new this morning... an east bay woman is going to prison for a murder that happened decades ago. marsha carter was killed back in december 1983. this is a picture of carter. police found a pool of blood in her richmond home. her body was found 10 days later in the trunk of her car in west sacramento. at that time... investigators didn't have a suspect. in 2008... they reopened the case. sherill lynn smothers was arrested in 2016. she'll

be sentenced next week. ( darya )a big story this morning... oakland mayor libby schaff is publicly criticizing the mayor of cupertino. this after schaff says he approved more empty lots for office spaces... than new housing. in a series of tweets yesterday... schaaf called out the city saying last year... the new apple headquarters opened in cupertino... with space for 12-thousand employees. meanwhile, the city of cupertino issued permits to build just 27 homes in 20-17. ( darya ) the cupertino city council did approve the constructon of nearly 3-thousand homes in the old vallco mall wednesday night... and believes their housing is in line... with where it should be. ( darya ) california school will ánot start later. governor brown has vetoed legislation that would have required middle and high

schools to start no earlier than 8-30 a-m. brown sided with opponents of the bill who say that local school boards should decide how to run their schools -- not the state. supporters had argued research shows that later school start times can mean better grades... attendance..an d graduation rates ( james ) in san francisco..... there is a proposal to overhaul the current lottery system that places students in public elementary schools. the idea is to give parents at least a little more certainty about their options. ( james ) the proposal to revamp the system will come up at next tuesday's school board meeting... and voted on later this fall. even if it passes... there would be parent input and analysis to

determine how it would all work. officials say that could mean three years... before the changes happen.
