( james ) breaking overnight... a 3-year-old was struck and killed by a driver in the parking lot at the somersville towne center mall in anitoch. the accident happened in the sears parking lot just after 7:30 last night. the child was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. the driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with police. ( darya ) a big story this morning.. san rafael polcie are investigating a deadly shooting at pickleweed park. ( james ) kron 4's sara stinson is live in san rafael with the details. sara? this morning we're working to find out if police have identified and arrested the shooter who killed a young man at san rafael's pickleweed park.take a look at video from the scene - officers responded to the shooting at the park on canal street around six last night.

there they found a young man dead with a gunshot wound inside a car.police have not released the age or name of the victim yet.people who live in the area were told to shelter in place for nearly two hours while police searched the area and investigated the scene. witnesses told officers they saw a man running from the scene after the shooting.but again - police have still not confirmed if they have the shooter in custody.this morning we are working to get an update on this homicide investigation...stay tuned as we learn more.i'm live in san rafael, sara stinson, kron four news. four news. stinson, kron four news. embrace art. he worked here at kron 4 before heading to kgo newstalk... where he worked for years. taliaferro took civil rights to heart as well as serving at one point as president of the n-double-a-c-p san francisco chapter. he was honored by the national association of black journalists for his life work in 20-11. his long- time friend and current president of the n-double-a- c-p doctor amos brown calls taliaferro a selfless pioneer.

say they arrested the two boys who are 15 and 17-year-old yesterday afternoon. on friday deputies responded to a person who had been shot in the area of fourth street and silver avenue. the man... identified as 60-year-old raymond vasquez... died at the scene. deputies say vasquez was in richmond to buy drugs... when a fight occurred between him and the two teens. one of the teens shot vasquez before running away. they were booked into juvenile jail on suspicion of murder and participating in a gang. ( james ) a travis air force base psychologist has been convicted of sexually assaulting three of his patients. a solano county jury found heath jacob sommer guilty of seven sexual assault charges on friday. the jury found that sommer would gain the trust of his victims. one of whom was ááalreadyáá a sexual assault victim... and would engage in sexual acts with them during treatment sessions. during the six-week trail, each victim testified. some of the charges include battery and rape. sommer's sentencing is scheduled for january 25. cars were found tagged with graffiti yesterday. officials say it happneed while they were parked on storage tracks at the richmond yard. four of those cars are part of the legacy fleets and one is a fleet of the future car. bart police did find a hole in the fence and are investigating the incident. ( darya ) san francisco police are investigating a string of fires that happened in a san francisco park. officials say it happened sunday night inside moscone park. thress fires were set in garbage cans and one spread to a nearby structure. that structure was a shed used by the parks department. officials are calling the fires suspicious.. as of right now they aren't sure if someone maliciously set the fires or if it was an accident from someone trying to stay warm. ( james ) in the south bay... police in los gatos are investigating more than a dozen car break-in's and other thefts. in every case the thieves targeted unlocked vehicles.. all in one night. police say most of the thefts happened in neighborhoods all within a mile of each other including truman avenue...

elmhurst drive and oakhurst drive. thieves were also able to get into garages if the homeowners left a door opener inside the car. polcie say you should always lock your car... remove important personal belongings... and consider getting an alarm system if you don't have one. ( james ) one person is in serious condition after hundreds of people gathered for an illegal sideshow in crockett. police say the man was injured after he either jumped or fell from an i-80 on ramp. it happened around midnight on saturday. c-h-p says there was around 100-cars and over 300-people participating at the sideshow. cars were parked on the on-and-off ramps for the highway. c-h-p says a sideshow that large is uncommon for the area... but neighbors say happens in that spot often. ( james ) kron 4's j-r stone has their story. this is a picture showing the late george h.w. bush at camp david with michael boskin. the stanford professor that bush appointed as head of the president's council on economic advisors. boskin says it has been a tough few days. sotboskin was actually supposed to fly from the bay area to houston on wednesday this week to see the former president, the man he worked with so closely for four years and the man he stayed friends with until his death. instead boskin will be flying to washington d.c. on tuesday morning with good memories on his mind.sotboskin says that bush had friends everywhere and he stayed close with all of them through notes and letters. bill draper is a venture capitalist who, like george h.w. attended yale university and became longtime friends with bush.sotboskin says the former republican president had challenges with a house and senate that was overwhelmingly democratic. despite that he still managed to get things done as the administration whethered two financial crisis's. outside of

news... students at the university of north carolina are protesting a request to move a knocked-down confederate structure into a new building on campus. this was the scene last night in chapel hill. people are upset because trustees are proposing the "silent sam" statue be placed in a new, five-point-three million dollar building. u-n-c officials are asking the university system's board of governors to budget in the costs needed for the building. officials say the proposed center would put issues like emancipation and civil rights in a historical context. ( james ) the board of governors will discuss the proposal at its next meeting. the plan also has to be approved by the state historical commission. the "silent sam" statue honors "sons of the university who died for their beloved southland." it was torn down by protesters in august. school district has announced the closure of 4 elementary schools next year to help deal with a $10 million dollar deficit. ( james ) kron 4's gabe slate talked with parents... who are upset they have to uproot their children to a different school. sound from parent of redwood city elementary student: "that's terrible" i spoke with parents of hawes elementary school kids who are upset that the school is closing next year sound from parent of redwood city elementary student: "not good" hawes, orion, fair oaks, and adelante elementary schools are closing next year as the district battles with deficits. the kids will be merged into other schools. sound from parent of redwood city elementary student: "it's not good" flora graduated from hawes elementary a few years ago her family lives in the neighborhood.. she was here today to pick up her sister she is upset her sister won't have the close by neighborhood

( james ) some students are headed back to school after the deadly wildfires. schools in butte county have been closed since november 8th when flames spread through the area. on monday... about 32-thousand students were scheduled to return to class. several schools were damaged or destroyed, so some students were sent to alternate locations. officials hope to have a long-term solution ready by next month. ( darya ) california lawmakers kicked off the first day of the legislative session with talks about the recent wildfires. the session started with a moment of silence for the victims. lawmakers are now trying to figure out what should be the next step. with p-g-and-e facing several lawsuits over its potential role in the camp fire... state senator jerry hill plans to put the utility under a microscope this session.
