police department in stanislaus county only has 12 officers. so the death of one of their own, hits especially hard. thanks for joining us, i'm ken wayne. (vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis in for pam moore. corporal ronil singh was shot during a traffic stop yesterday... and as we speak... sheriff's deputies in merced county are serving a search warrant in connection to the killing. justine waldman is live in our newsroom.. with the latest on the manhunt. (justine) the stanislaus county sheriff office confirms, the served a search warrant in merced county tonight. and it was is in connection to the death ofcorporal ronil singh. the deparmtment received numerous tips and new information lead them to a property in tiny town of "el nido." but in the last 15 minutes, we learned the suspect was not located at the property and the investigation remains fluid. this search warrant coming ... just hours after the police chief made an emotional plea to find the killer. vigil is underway for the victim of a deadly officer involved shooting in san jose. it happened on christmas morning -- and woman's family is speaking out for the first time since her death. kron 4's gabe slate is live in san jose tonight with the details. gabe? around 2am san jose police officers say they responded to 911 calls of shots fired near story road and clemence avenue with reports that the shooter was in a white vehicle leaving the scene. san jose police chief eddie garcia says when officers first arrived on the scene, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds, their current identity and condition is unknown, but they are alive.sound from - "when officers arrived witnesses pointed out a white vehicle leaving the scene, saying that way, they shot" those first responding officers broadcasted the description of that vehicle to the incoming wave of other officers about to arrive on the scene.sound from - san jose police chief eddie garcia "second officer saw a vehicle matching description and called in license plate and it was stolen car "at this time the police chief says his

proceedings against the man accused of stabbing and killing 18-year-old nia wilson. 28-year-old john lee cowell appeared in court today. an alameda county judge says there is substantial evidence that cowell is incompetent to stand trial. he is accused of killing wilson and injuring her sister at the macarthur bart station back in july. cowell's attorney says it appears her client's delusions and paranoia were becoming more common. two doctors will now evaluate cowell. the judge is expected to meet with attorneys in february to discuss their findings. (ken) the manhunt continues for an inmate who managed to escape from maximum security san quentin prison in marin county. and police say he matches the description of a man who was involved in a carjacking shortly after the time he escaped. kron 4's haaziq madyun has more from san quentin on the man police are looking for. a carjacking and an escaped prison inmate appear to be connected. 21-year-old shalom mendoza escaped from san quentin prison. he was reported missing around 9:35pm wednesday during an inmate count. mendoza is

a phone call of a bomb threat to the building on 7th and brayant led to an immediate investigation by police. no one was allowed into the facility at the time. about an hour later, the building deemed safe and the hall of justice continued their operations. no injuries were reported. we are facing another story of a tesla crash that ends with a devastating fire. this time three teenagers are invovled. two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old driving a tesla model x crashed into a tree... slicing it in half just before it burst into flames in new hampshire. the 19-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the two other teens are in better shape. a couple -- who do not want to be identifed say they found a girl trapped inside the car. he and his wife didn't think twice about helping -- even though they say it was a dangerous situation. (ken) police in southern california recovered the stolen van belonging to a couple that has been traveling the country for months looking for medical care. the owner says the return of that van -- but more importantly, her puppy -- who was inside -- could be a sign she is about to get the surgery she needs. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the story. brandi west/dog owner"i'm glad they found both the van and the dog.brandi west says this may be the turnaround she's been hoping for.police found her van and her 7 month old puppy scrappy after someone stole them from this hospital parking lot sunday.brandi west/dog owner"i'm using this as the turning point for the week that maybe by the end of the week, the end of the month that i will have the surgery done and it's going to be the next blessing."west has been at st. john's regional in oxnard for more than a week. she and her husband brian have been traveling the country since september looking for a neurologist that will operate on brandi's brain.brandi west/dog owner"it's been
