teenage boy is in critical conditon... after a car runs him over on the streets of oakland. police are looking for the people responsible for hitting the boy on his bike and dragging him several blocks. kron4's justine waldman sat down with oaklands' chief of police ... and has the details. nats "oh my god please call an ambulance!!" on the ground, with his legs twisted out of place, a 14 year old cries for help. after a car runs him over at 12:30 in the afternoon wednesday right near the fruitvale bart station. the car dragged him 4 blocks down the street, according to police.sot this is a little kid in pain obvi broken legs deep wounds to his skin that is what is uncon to me oakland police believe the people responsible for hurting the teenager are in this video. the male driver and the female passenger it appears, switch

east bay --- in pleasanton... police are trying to find the driver who struck a pedestrian as they tried to cross the street. it happened last month at the intersection of tom burnett lane and johnson drive. police say the driver stopped at the scene and provided information that was later determined to be false. kron 4's gayle ong has details and surveillance video of what happened. pleasanton police are searching for the driver of searching for the driver of this truck seen in this surveillance video, turning left from johnson drive to tom burnett lane,into a pedestrian crossing the street.asking for the public's help on social media, pleasanton police say the driver - believed to be this

man - stopped at the scene but prodivded false information. after leaving the collision site, he entered a nearby security controlled building.. by following an employee inside..workers in the area who did not want to speak on camera say - based on the security footage, the driver went inside this building..right across the street from the collision site police say it happened around 8:30 in the morning on december 21st, the driver failing to yield to the pedestrian in the middle of the marked crosswalk.it is unclear if this was an accident or intentional but workers say they are not surprised..as vehicles are often speeding down johnson drive,especially because there is no stop sign.. office says they've had interactions with her in the past.. and she had a history of mental illness and sustance abuse. deputies believe her death may have been the result of an accident or overdose and not a homicide. ( robin ) some encouraging news out of the east bay. oakland's homicide rate is at a nearly 20-year low. and now, city officials are saying it's due to a change of tactics in reducing gun violence. but it is not just gun violence which is declining. the latest crime statistics from 20-18 ... show double- digit declines in many other major crimes in oakland. kron 4's maureen kelly reports. overall major crimes were down 11 percent in 2018 from the year before in oakland....mayo r libby schaaf saying the downward trend for homicides and shootings has been happening for some time. this represents an unprecedented six-year reduction in homicides an injury shootings combined six consecutive years

shot or going to jail the chief says they did see a rise in arsons and commercial burglaries last year....but many other property crimes were down by double digits.....car break ins for exampe were down by 25%.the chief says they still have to do....and one of her get the to full staffing by the mid year.there are ( robin ) a person of interest is in custody in connection to the murder of three children in texas. 27-year-old junaid mehmood was arrested thursday night on an unrelated warrant. the bodies were found during a welfare check thursday. investigators believe the oldest child was just 5 years old and the youngest was an infant. during the same welfare check --- police also found a woman who was shot in the head. she was hospitalized in stable condition. the children's cause of death has not yet ( robin ) take a look at this... video of a garden grove couple jumping from the second-floor window to surive an apartment fire. neighbors helped them land safely. the couple also managed to save

two of their cats... but six others did die in the fire. it took about 50 firefighters half an hour to get the fire under control. officials say the fire displaced a dozen people from the apartment complex. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. francisco and oakland we looked at a few minutes ago--- violent crime is up in the bay area's largest city. kron four's rob fladboe has a look at the numbers and a conversation with san jose's chief of police. violent crime is trending upward in what not that long ago was consistantly recognized as the safest big cty in america. chief "....obviously, no chief is happy when the crime rate goes up like that..we need to keep our eye on the ball and continue to rebuild....."chief garcia says those numbers reflect a department still struggling to rebuild after it was decimated by an exodus of officers resulting from pension reform and austerity measures. ( darya ) an update we want to share with you this morning --- a six- year old oakland girl hit by celebratory gunfire early on new year's day is improving. she is in stable condition, but comes in and out of consciousness. the incident happened on the 9600- block of thermal street in east oakland, just before 2 - in the morning, on new years day. the girl was able to speak with her parents this morning the bullet will remain in the girl's head ... as doctors say, it would be too dangerous to remove. however, police say, to determine who fired the gun. ( robin ) on the peninsula.. a los altos y' charge of driving under the influence .. that's after he was found asleep in a moving tesla last november.

45-year-old andrew samek was cited for two misdemeanor d- u-i charges.. stemming from the incident. c-h-p officers say they tried to stop his tesla model- s... traveling on highway- 101 at 70- miles an hour, shortly before 4 a-m on november 30th. the c-h-p says, samek was asleep at the wheel. officers say, they drove in front of his vehicle to activate the tesla's automatic stopping system. officers obtained a warrant to measure his blood alcohol level ... which registered as at least or 50- percent over the legal limit. he is due back in court in april.
