this morning. after weeks of searching ... police make an arrest in connection to a brutal beating of an elderly woman in san francisco. this sketch is the only image police have released of the 18-year-old suspect ... keonte gathron. police believe he attacked the 88-year-old yik oi huang near a visitacion oi huang near a visitacion valley playground on january 8th. the 88-year-old victim remains in critical condition at san francisco general. the assault has raised safety concerns in the victim's san francisco neighborhood. < we're gonna be fighting to keep our community safe and we need to look out for our seniors our young people and work together.. >( james ) san francisco supervisors are working on getting a police substation with bilingual officers and equiping the visitacion valley area with surveillance cameras. ( james ) in the east bay... police in concord are looking for a man they say robbed a cricket wireless store. this happened sunday on the 1800 block of mounument boulevard near i-680 north. investigators say

the robber took out a hand gun and demanded money from the cashier. he ran off with the money. officers say no one was hurt. ( darya ) in the south bay... two people were hospitalized and three others were injured in a three-car crash in san jose. the accident happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of aborn road and whitesand drive. police say a mercedes-benz s-u-v was trying to make a left turn when it collided with both a nissan and a honda. the s-u-v ended up on its side and two passengers had to be rescued by san jose fire crews. the two victims were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. ( darya ) the american red cross is helping a family of five find a new place to stay after their home caught fire. here is video of the fire early sunday morning. it broke out at a two story home in the 100 block of harbor road. that's in the hunters point neighborhood. it was contained in less than 30 minutes ... and nobody was hurt. ( james ) six people in santa cruz are displaced after a two-story house caught fire

over the weekend. the fire at 120 mcmillian drive happened saturday night. fire crews say the second floor of the home was on fire ... and that it sustained major damage. the cause of the fire is still under investigation .. but officials do not believe it is suspicous. ( james ) in san francisco ... firefighters rescued this little dog from a cliff at fort funston. it was stuck there for 26 hours. here's a picture of the dog reuniting with its owner. officials say the black chihuahua mix got lost on saturday and it wasn't until sunday that hang gliders spotted the dog stuck on the cliff. a big story this morning ... the government shutdown enters its 31st day ... and president trump's plan to end it fell flat among among democrats in washington. john lorince has the latest. president trump tweeting a statement sunday night to the hundreds of thousands of federal workers who aren't getting paid during the shutdown.....calling them "great patriots."this coming

set. the patriots verus the rams --- with two bay area quarterbacks --- tom brady and jared goff --- set to battle it out atlanta in two weeks.( james ) both teams won in overtime in their respective championship games. starting with the a-f-c conference championship match between the new england patriots on the kansas city chiefs. brady and the patriots had to get pass the red hot chiefs ... who forced the game into overtime with a field goal. patriots got the ball to start overtime ... and brady marched down the field to beat the chiefs. final score 37-31 patriots. story this morning. outrage after video appears to show teens mocking a native american elder during a confrontation after march for our lives rally.( james ) but now the teen at the center of the controversy is saying he did nothing to provoke anyone. cnn's sara sidner has more on the story behind the viral clip. new video emerges in a story that has gone viral between catholic school students and a native american elder named nathaniel phillips phillips found himself surrounded by students one

( james ) a bizzare case on the peninsula. police say a woman broke into a home and live streamed her confrontation with the victim on social media. here is a picture of the burglary suspect ... 26-year-old akilah hasan. police say she broke into a home in woodside yesterday afternoon. once inside she went to the homeowner ... took the victim's cellphone and used to verbally rant during a live stream. during the stream ... officials say hasan stripped down to her underwear and walked to the backyard of the home. the victim locked her outside ... and called police. hasan was

booked into the santa clara county jail. ( james ) on the peninsula... a 22-year-old sacramento resident has been arrested on suspcion of stealing items from unlocked cars in woodside. san mateo police say this woman ... jamie cordero ... was found inside a person's car after they received reports of a woman breaking into a car in the 41-hundred block of jefferson avenue. police say during their investigation they found cordera has stolen items from a number of locked cars. she was booked into the san mateo county jail. local businesses in the north bay are helping coast guard families impacted by this record long shutdown. acre coffee shop in petaluma is one of the business stepping up to help. they are offering free coffee and discounted meals for coast guard service members. in the town of bodega ... the casino bar and grill is serving some relief. the bar is offering free meals on fridays. and so far ... they've served nearly one hundred service members who

( james ) an honor roll student is put on suspension... from what his parents say was just a misunderstanding with fake money. christian philon says he had no idea this 20 dollar bill was a fake when his parents gave it to him for lunch... and neither did his parents. but, by the time it was marked as counterfeit it was too late... even after his parents filed a police report. following a hearing... the school said he violated the code of conduct prohibiting possession of counterfeit currency and received a total ten days in school suspension. still ahead on the kron4 morning news... oakland's own kamala harris is running for president... and she's not

she launches her bid as the nation observes what would have been the 90th would have been the 90th birthday of civil rights luther king jr. ( james ) to the south bay now ... where police are investigating a deadly shooting in east san jose. investigators say a woman was shot and killed in a home near clyda drive saturday night. that's near the intersection of dobern and jackson. police are still looking for a suspect and a motive for the shooting. ( darya ) a target employee in the north bay is recovering after being punched in the face by a shoplifter. it happened friday night at the petaluma store near highway 101. police have released these surveillance images of the man they are looking for. they tell us that the man tried to leave the store with stolen items hidden in his pants. when an employee tried to detain him, the man dropped the merchandise and punched the empoyee. that worker suffered a minor injury but is okay.

back in the east bay -- c-h-p officers made 141 stops and issued 114 citations for speeding. this was all during a traffienforcement operation friday on state route 4 in contra costa county. in addition to the speeding citations, officers made two arrests on suspicion of driving under the influence and issued 11 citations for carpool lane violations.
