the maze to sf. (2-shot) ( james ) breaking news this morning.. police are investigating a shooting in the south bay.( darya ) it happened near the bay 101 casino in san jose. kron 4s sara stinson is live with the details. sara? im live at bay 101 casino where the california highway

patrol continues to investigate a shooting. the casino is right off highway 101 and airport parkway near the san jose international airport. the shooting happened last night there was a heavy police presence here and the casino parking lot was tapped off surrounding a car that had multiple bullet holes. i spoke with a security guard here who says a man was shot near the freeway in his car and he drove into the casino parking lot for help. people here called 911 and the man was sent to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. we are still waiting to hear back from chp san jose to confirm these details and see if they have the shooter in custody. as well as an update on the victim. stay tuned as we learn more. live in san jose, sara stinson kron four news. ( james ) breaking news this morning --- police have arrested a 36-year-old man for sexual assault in the hacienda health care case. where a woman in a vegetative state for years gave birth in december. the phoenix police chief said that "nathan sutherland" is a caretaker and licensed nurse at the facility. we will continue to update you with any new information as it comes out. ( james ) this morning we are hearing from lyft after a driver was arrested in a sexual battery investigation.er

told police she called for a ride to a hotel and during the ride she was sexually battered. police have since arrested 22-year-old bipin thapa for the attack. lyft says the allegations are disturbing and they are cooperating with investigators. the company says the driver passed a background check last month. ( james )in the south bay... a san jose teacher is accused of having sexual contact with a student. police arrested ricardo chavarria on felony sex charges with a person under age 18. investigators say the victim was assaulted inside a classroom. chavarria worked as a spanish teacher at pioneer high school in san jose. he has worked in the school district since 20-11. district officials say... he will not return to pioneer nor any other position in the district. ( darya ) new this morning ... the city of berkely is changing the way you eat take-out or dine-in at restaurants ... in an effort to reduce waste.( james )

( james ) oakland lawmakers are now one step closer to naming at street next the fruitvale bart station after oscar grant. grant was the 22-year old man fatally shot by a bart police officer at the fruitvale station more than 10 years ag. it happened after reports of a fight on a train. grant and others were detained on the platform before shots were fired. last night ... the oakland city council approved the street to be named oscar grant way. now approval must come from the bart board. ( james ) the family of grant also hope to get a mural near the station on march 23rd. they hope the bart board can officially name the station after grant around the same time. outside the contra costa county district attorney's office.( darya ) as kron4's dan kerman explains... it all has to do with a new law that went into effect at the start of the year. prosecuting juveniles as adults 0122196 pkgcarrying signs reading justice for allie, family and friends of 20 year old murder victim allie sweitzer rallied against contra costa county district attorney diana becton tuesday...sotit just doesnt make sense to keep our community safelast year a judge determined sweitzer's alleged 15 year old killer was to be tried as an adult, but a new state law that went into effect january first prevents those under the age of 16 from being tried as adults... that means if convicted, instead of as much as 25 years to life in prison, the suspect would be released at the age of 26.sot taylor sweitzer/murder victim's sister he did an adult crime, multiple times in a few weeks span and should be charged as an adult. he took a life.judges in riverside county and kern county have already ruled the new law unconstitutional... the family says district attorney becton originally agreed to appeal the new law... and then

police investigating a deadly crash after a woman was hit and killed while crossing the street. it happened last night on lewis brown road between sonoma boulevard and broadway street. police say the woman was not in a crosswalk when she was hit. the driver did stay on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. ( james ) oakland police arrested a person of interest for the deaths of three men. the three were shot and killed on center street january 4th ... that's three- blocks from the west oakland bart station. two victims were in a parked car... while a third was standing outside. they were identified as 21- year old gino houchins ... 29- year old marcus fuller jr ... and 31- year old dante johnson. police are not releasing the name of the person of interest right now because the investigation is ongoing. ( james ) police are looking for someone who robbed a mountain mikes pizza restaurant in walnut creek.

passenger grabbing my steering wh the driver... the d albert castro... captured the incident on his dash cam video. this is on i-80 in sacramento. you can see the passenger reach for the steering wheel and castro slaps his hand away. then once castro thinks he has the situation under control... the does it again. a man who impersonated a "meals on wheels" employee last week. reports say the man was outside of the safeway on shattuck avenue asking for donations. police say the man ran away after being confronted by an actual meals on wheels employee. the suspect is described as a man in his 60's about six feet tall, last seen wearing a white meals on wheels t-shirt. ( james ) bart passengers say the transit agency has more work to do to make them feel safe. a new survey shows bart riders' customer satisfaction is falling. according to a new survey... 56% say things could be better on bart. the number of people satisfied with bart security and bart police is down about 15% over the last about 15% over the last year. fewer people are also satisfied with train and station cleanleser satisfaction

( james ) one bright spot for bart... riders do say that they have noticed a difference in the cleanliness at the civic center station in san francisco. you may remember this video from last year showing people doing drugs in the station. this is how the same area looks today. ( darya )in the east bay... there are some significant bart delays now through sunday afternoon. riders on trains between south hayward and warm springs - south fremont should expect delays of up to 40 minutes. bart is repairing and upgrading the tracks in union city. ( darya ) officials in san mateo county are issuing an alert after a mountain lion was spotted in the area monday night. officials say the mountain lion was seen in the area of el granada... near del monte and san pedro roads. the report says the animal was not aggressive

(2-shot)( darya ) a new report is out that ranks the safest cities across california and here in the bay area. ( james ) here's kron four's rob fladeboe with a breakdown. (downtown san jose)conducted by the national council for home safety and security, the study ranks cities based on both violent and non-violent crime. (full screen graphic) statewide, the report ranks hillsborough as the safest california city, followed by palos verde estates, imperial, truckee and sierra madre rounding out the top five. the findings are based on the fbi's uniform crime reporting tool along with the trade group's "internal population research."(full screen graphic) in the bay area, the study says the top ten safest cities are hillsborough,los altos, piedmont, foster city, mill valley, los gatos, healdsburg, clayton, moraga and belmont. left out ot the study are cities with fewer than 1o,000

activist erin brockovich says p-g-and-e is trying to avoid being held responsible for the recent wildfires. she led a protest against the utlity company yesterday at the state capitol. here's capitol bureau reporte ashley zavala with the story. erin brockovich is working with a number of fire victims and their lawyers who sued the utility.as pg&e bankruptcy by the end of the month, demonstrators today urged lawmakers to not let that happen.((pkg)) trt: 1:25"take control of this runaway monopoly,"erin brockovich stood alongside several fire victims at the capitol company she became famous for beating in court more than 20 years that mean th

after the annual shareholder meeting in may... before filing for bankruptcy. ( darya ) teachers in los angeles are expected back in the classrooms today after school officials and their union reached an agreement. it includes a 6 percent raise for educators, a slight reduction in some class sizes, and additional support staff, including nurses and librarians. teachers voted to approve the deal last night. every campus should see an increase in nursing services over the next three school years. teachers complained that some schools only had a nurse on staff once a week. the new contract also eliminates a longstanding clause that gave the district authority over class sizes. ( james ) the stanley cup is finally in san jose ... but not under the glory of a sharks championship. hockey's highest trophy is just visiting for the all- star weekend. it was available for viewing at the san jose mcenery convention center. since their inception in 19-91 ... the sharks have never won the cup. so for die hard fans ...
