rampant violence on freeways in the east bay. there have been three separate shootings in a span of three days -- and we are now learning the identity of a woman killed in a shooting on highway four in concord. good evening i'm grant lodes. (vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the first shooting happened on eastbound highway four near concord on saturday night-- and the most recent was this morning on interstate 80. the c-h-p just wrapped up a news conference with details of the shootings. kron 4's michelle kingston is live in vallejo the new information. michelle? chp says they've had 185 freeway shootings since november 2015.nine of those shootings have been fatal ... including saturday's shooting. chp investigators say destinee hillery -- a resident of antioch -- was pronounced dead on highway four eastbound at port chicago highway.her

family says she was a beautiful girl with lots of friends and family who loved her.chp believes it was a targeted, gang related shooting.on sunday -- another shooting ... this one on 580 east near airway boulevard.chp says this shooting may have been due to road rage. the victim suffered a non life threatening gun shot wound.and this morning -- on 80 west, just east of mcdonnel avenue ... a suspect fired a round that hit someone's car -- that victim discovered a bullethole in their vehicle and called police.we asked chp today what the public should do to remain safe on our freeways ... officer john fransen, chp golden gatewe just asked that people remain vigilent in certain cases where these incidences caused by road rage we just ask people to slow down drive safe remain vigilant chp says all three shootings were targeted ... and none of them are related.no arrests have been made.live in vallejo michelle kingston kron 4 news

(grant) the investigation into saturday's highway shooting that look the life of a 25 year antioch woman... may end up benefitting from a network of cameras that have been installed along highway 4 and interstate 80. as kron4's maureen kelly reports... there is still work to do on this project... that has been years in the making. today caltrans crews work to replace the guardrail that was crashed into when 25 year old destinee hillary's silver honda plowed into saturday after 2pm on the willow pass off ramp of eastbound 4....it was after officers responded to the crash that they found bullet holes in her car..... it's a freeway that now has more eyes on it.....because of a network of equiptment meant to aid investigators it's up on highway 4 and highwaty 80 and it's called our freeway security network systemthey include cameras.....shot spotter technology and liscense plate readers...that were put in place after a number of shootings on freeways in the east bay....they are also in place on the highway 80 corridor

....althought law enforcement won't specify how many there are...or where they are placed for security reasons.our cameras that originally on the freeway are usually just ribs are in traffic what's congested what's not, these cameras that of been installed on the corner of 80 and highway four are specifically designed to pinpoint gunshots that'll give us a more accurate location of where this occurredit's a network that's been coming together over the last several years.....right now the wireless backbone of the system is going in....which will send all of the intel being picked up into a central command center in pittsburg. the system is expected to be fully operational in june....and it won't end there...mary knox the senior deputy district attorney for contra conta county tells me she is continuign to apply for state and federal grants in order to get more equiptment installed...and continue increasing coverage on the roadways.....maureen kelly kron4 news.

following. in the wake of this now viral video from t-m-z. calls are mounting for giants c-e-o larry baer to be disciplined.(vicki) several groups and now even the mayor of san francisco are weighing in ...on what action should be taken. kron-4's dan kerman joins us live from oracle park... with more the calls for punishment against larry baer are mounting following this very public physical altercation between the giants president and his wife.monday san francisco mayor london breed issued a statement saying "major league baseball needs to send a message that any and all acts of violence against women is unacceptable....while mr. baer has apologized and expressed remorse for his behavior, it does not excuse his actions and it does not erase what transpired. the mayor's statement follows a letter written to major league baseball on friday by a bay area coalition advocating an end to violence against women.

(vicki) a big story tonight... higay 17 in the south bay is more than living up to it's reputation as one of bay area's nastiest commutes.(grant) (grant) there has been a recent spike in crashes along that stretch of highway. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us live from los gatos with the details. rob? day. that is what has been happening here on highway 17 so far this year. the weather has been a factor but it's not the only factor. here's more... looking back on the wet, wintry months of january and february there were no fewer than 228 crashes on highway 17 between los gatos and scotts valley. that's the most in a decade and triple the rate on other state roads wth similar traffic patterns according to the group "safe on 17." several people were injured and three people died, which is often the number of fatalities in an entire year. bad weather and slick pavement may be to blame for many of the crashes but too often, accidents are caused when drivers are simply going too fast for conditions says the chp's julieta trenado.juileta trenado/chp "...upon further investigation most o these accidents are due to people speeding and following too closely so we do encourage people to reduce speed especially on the downhill grades..."most of the crashes are occurring on the downhill curves within a mile of the summit in either direction. the chp has stepped enforcement in recent years and caltrans has added extra signs, new turn lanes, wider shoulders skid resistant pavement and other safety measures. another problem is distracted drivingaccording to some of the 63,000 people who drive highway 17 on any given

(grant) developing news tonight... a new report says the f-a-a is now being investigated over the embattled boeing seven-37 max planes. the wall street journal reports the transportation department's inspector general has opened a probe into the f-a-a's approval of the plane. the probe will reportedly focus on an automatic safety system implicated in last october's crash of a boeing seven-37 max jet near indonesia. it's not known if last week's fatal crash of a similar plane in ethiopia will play a part in this probe. in the meantime, all boeing seven-37 max planes were grounded last week.
