(grant) family, friends and neighbors rallied outside walnut creek's city hall to speak out against this police shooting that killed a 23 year old man. good evening i'm grant lodes.(justine) and i'm justine waldman... in for vicki liviakis tonight. the shooting happened back on june 2nd... the protest comes hours after the family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit. it is against the city of walnut creek and five police officers involved in the deadly shooting. kron 4's gayle ong was there ..

(justine) governor gavin newsom signed a bill into law... intended to reduce law enforcement's use of force.. (grant) s-b 230 will make it mandatory for officers to recieve training designed to minimize the use of force... officials say the bill is meant to work with a-b 392... another use of force bill signed by the governor last month. that bill allows california police to use deadly force only when absolutely necessary instead of when reasonable.

(grant) new at nine -- university police in the north bay are investigating another report of a rape on-campus. this is the 2nd reported sexual assault at sonoma state university in the last month. (justine) the school has acknowledged the investigation through an email shared with staff and students. kron4's dan thorn is live in rohnert park tonight.. he joins us with more on the investigation and how students are reacting.. dan?

(grant) the body of the final missing victim in the deadly dive boat fire off the santa barbara coast... has been recovered. the sheriff's office held a press conference today... releasing the victim's names. kron 4's taylor bisacky joins us live from the newsroom with the latest. taylor? the 34 victims range in ages from sixteen to sixty-two...at least half of them are from northern california...others frli fornia, arizona, tennessee and arizona, california, southern ers from california...others from southern california, arizona, tennessee and more.

(grant) police in san mateo arrested two men after a string of car burglaries and thefts near george avenue.

police say someone tipped off police when they reported seeing suspicious activity in the area. reports say the suspects -- christopher jongejan (jon-jan) and frank volo-noski looked like they were casing for unlocked cars. police say eventually, both men were stopped in the laurie meadows shopping center and found to be in possession of stolen property from a nearby unlocked car, in addition to other possible stolen property. the suspects were arrested and booked at san mateo county main jail on theft related charges. (justine) as brazen crimes go, this one stands out. some people unwittingly helped a thief steal an a-t-m. kron four's rob fladeboe has the story from the children's discovery museum in san jose.

(grant) people were hanging out on a balcony ... until it collapsed. it happened last night on a one story balcony at the brookview condominium complex in mountain view. a woman living downstairs says she was inside her unit at the time. she says her upstairs neighbor was entertaining fewer than a dozen guests when the balcony came crashing

the u-s budget deficit has topped a jaw-dropping one trillion dollars for the first time in seven years, and the year isn't even over yet.(grant) the treant reported thursday that the deficit grew to one

point-zero-six-seven trillion for the first 11 months of the fiscal year. 20-18's deficit was was 898 billion -- and that was for the entire 12 months. before he was elected president, donald trump said he would eliminate the federal debt. instead, deficits have gone up dramatically. one of the factors driving up the deficit is president trump's one- point-five trillion dollar tax cuts in 20-17. another factor is the massive spending package passed by congress. (justine) a california defense attorney is calling sacramento county's process of selecting a potential jury pool into question... suggesting it may be practicing racial discrimination. this after 60 people showed up as potential jurors in her case... of those only two were black. reporter doug attorneys say this could be a huge problem.

(grant) the trial of a bay area real estate heiress has been delayed. tiffany li previously posted 35- million dollars bail after being charged with the 20-16 murder of her children's father--- 27-year-old keith green. san mateo county superior court judge did not give a reason for the delay-- but opening statements are now set for next tuesday. li's family-- who made millions on chinese constriction-- helped her post the bail that allowed her to stay in her hillsborough mansion pending trial. li and her boyfriend, kaveh bayat, are charged with the murder of green. bayat remains jailed on 35-million dollars bail. green's body was found along a dirt road nearly two weeks after he had been last seen meeting with li... to discuss custody of their children. workers are now behind bars for child endangerment involving a 5-year-old girl.ed on camera dangling that child by the ankle. we want to warn you the photo you are about to see, may be graphic to some viewers. this happened august 13th at worthington learning center in ohio and now this man and another daycare worker are out of a job -- and facing child endangerment charges. 31-year-old emma dietrich and 27-year-old joshua tennant were arrested tuesday. and police say this is just part of what happened-- they say video shows the two employees allowing that little girl to be physically bullied by other kids -- quote "as a form of discipline." apparently you can see the workers just sitting back, watching her get hurt--while she tries to cover her eyes and even curls up into a fetal position at one point.
