oc :04 "so public" racism in the san ramon valley unified school district ... for the second time this month -- the monte vista high school principal has sent letters home to parents alerting them about racist incidents at the school. good evening im ken wayne.. and i'm pam moore.. most recently -- a video on social media... where a student calls an african american man a racial slur. kron4's michelle kingston is live at the high school tonight... with more on what's being done to stop this behavior.

( pam ) the flu season has ramped up. we told you yesterday how two people in marin county died from the flu ... both of them were older than 65 ... and one of the two did not get the flu vaccine.(ken) a person from sonoma county also died from the flu... who was also not vaccinated according to health officials. kron 4's justine waldman reports on the urgent call from doctors for people to get vaccinated.

(ken) there has been a jump in the number of people sickened by e coli tied to romaine lettuce from california the c-d-c says 138 people have been infected...in 25 states. that's an additional three dozen cases from just two weeks ago. 72 people have been hospitalized. and 13 have developed a type of kidney failure. officials have traced the outbreak to romaine lettuce from salinas. for the third straight year ---

the same strain of e coli has triggered outbreaks. (ken) san francisco state university is still closed tonight and all finals for today have been postponed. (pam) this is all because of a bomb threat earlier today... kron4's grant lodes joins us now in the studio ... with what we know right now... grant (grant) the s-f-s-u police tweeting just after 2 p-m... saying the main campus is closed during a bomb threat investigation. the threat affects a few buildings... and students and staff are not allowed on the main campus. one residential building did get evacuated. students are taking final exams this week and one lecturer we interviewed says... that may be the reason for the bomb threat. (grant) all of the finals

sceheduled for today will be re- police say there is currently no threat to public safety but the main campus will be closed for the rest of tonight.(grant) san francisco police is assisting university police with the investigation. the campus will re-open for regualr operations tomorrow morning. (oncam) a dramatic end to a high profile trial. the man accused of shooting and killing tiffany le's ex -- keith green -- is now a free man. kaveh bayet walked out of the san mateo county jail thursday afternoon, after prosecutors decided not to retry him for murder. bayet was accused of shooting and killing green back in april of 2016. but while lee was acquitted of the murder, a jury deadlocked six- to - six over bayet's guilt. the d-a says, this decision was made because there are too many unanswered questions for a jury to convict him...

(ken) san francisco police have arrested two attempted murder suspects. it stems from a shooting that happened back in september. according to police the two men you see here are accused of walking up to a group of people in the mission district and one of them... fired off two shots. san francisco police arrested jarillo esteban back on november 27th... and tony castillo surrendered to police on december second.. both were booked into the san francisco jail on attempted murder, assault with a firearm and other charges.. (pam) california is earthquake country and the developers of the 'myshake app' say -- they are thrilled the app is working.

yesterday -- the state's earthquake warning app sent out an alert .... less than 10 -seconds after a small earthquake shook monterey county. it was the first time the alert was used .. since being developed at u-c berkeley. doctor peggy hellweg is the operations manager for the 'myshake app'. (pam) the app was released to the public in october... the app has now been downloaded more than 900- thousand times. (pam) the smallest group of candidates for a democratic debate.. has concluded. now we take a look at who came out on top. cannabis dispensary is legal... using their smart phones. the bureau of cannabis control announced a program... where licensed cannabis retailers can post what's called - a q-r code in their store window. by scanning this code ... consumers can determine which retailers carry products that are tracked, tested, and legal. according to the united cannabis business association ... california's illicit market is nearly three- times the size of its legal one .... and many consumers cannot tell the difference, leading them to unknowingly purchase untested and unregulated products which may put their health at risk. (ken) the number of vaping- related lung injury cases has topped 2,500 nationwide... according to the report released from the u-s centers for disease control. vaping injuries have been reported in all 50 states, the district of columbia, puerto rico and the u-s virgin islands. the c-d-c also reported today there are 54 confirmed deaths including at

(pam) in southern california .... a task force has found.. there was no animal cruelty or criminal activity .. linked to the scores of horse deaths at santa anita park. that is according to los angeles county d-a jackie lacey, who headed up the panel of prosecutors and investigators. officials briefly suspended racing back in march.... amid nationwide attention over the number of horses being euthanized or dying a... fter accidents at the race track. there were 56- deaths between last july and this november.lacey did acknowledge ... greater precautions are needed. some changes were made before the park reopened in late march. according to the task force, improved safety policies, reduced the number of fatal racing and training incidents. c-n-n reached out to santa anita park and to the california horse racing board for comment ... but did not get an immediate reply.
