a man is critically injured following a shooting in san jose. police were called to the 11-hundred block of matterhorn drive around 3 this morning. a man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. the gunman has not been found. ( james ) happening now. the holiday travel rush is underway at s-f-o. thousands of people are flying out of the bay area in another busy day at the airport. kron4's christina taytro live at s-f-o with a look at what travelers can expect. christina?

( will )( will ) an east bay school district sent its second letter this month about a racist incident on campus.( james ) this comes after a video on social media showed a student calling an african american man a racial slur. this happened at monte vista high school on wednesday. the student responsible was identified. the school's principal sent letters to parents saying the school has a zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. the school is now working with different organizations and have a number of school programs to combat racism and create a safe environment at school.

( james ) also in the east bay-- oakland police seized six firearms -- including an a-r 15 semi- automatic rifle during an operation earlier this week.. police arrested one man.. no details on what led to the gun seizure.. they say the investigation is still active. ( james ) police are looking for a man accused of exposing himself in public. alameda police are trying to identify the man on the screen. they say he entered a subway restaurant on webster street tuesday.... and exposed himself. police only have a generic description of the man. ( will ) san francisco police arrested these two men ... in connection to a shooting back in september.

police say... 26-year-old ájarillo estebaná from oakland -- on the left -- and 22-year-old átony castilloá from daly city -- on the right -- fired two shots into a group of people gathered in the city's mission district. one person was injured. police used survellance footage to identify the suspects.. they arrested esteben last month ... castillo earlier this month... both are charged with attempted murder. ( james ) to the north bay now. police in benicia are looking for a man who used pepper spray on a gas station clerk before stealing money from the cash register. this video shows the robber holding a pistol in one hand... then pepper spraying the clerk. this happened at the "fast and easy mart" gas station in benicia. police say the man in the video pretended to be a customer before attacking.

'myshake' earthquake warning app say the app is actually sending out alerts. the state's earthquake warning app ... sent out an alert less than 10- seconds after a small earthquake shook monterey county. it was the first time an alert was sent since being developed at u-c berkeley. doctor peggy hellweg is the operations manager for the myshake app. ( will ) the app was

released to the public back in october. it has been downloaded more than 900- thousand times. ( james )(ááávidboxááá) the california department of education is getting more than 21- million dollars in federal money ... to help students and schools affected by last year's wildfires like the camp fire. state superintendent átony thurmondá announced the grants yesterday. part of the money will be used to hire additional staff to provide behavioral or counseling services for students. ( james ) our top story this morning. a young boy is dead after a playground accident at a private school in san rafael.( will ) the school says classes will be in session this morning. the accident happened yesterday on the playground at mark day school on trellis drive.

the school says other students and staff witnessed the accident and tried to provide aid for the young boy. he died at a hospital. the school is working with police to investigate what happened ... and the section of campus where the accident happened has been closed off. mark day school released this statement saying ... "the death of someone so young is devastating for all of us, and even more so under these circumstances and at this time of year, when we are surrounded by celebrations while we mourn. all of us at mark day school express our deepest sympathies to his family, classmates and friends." there will be counselors on campus today for students who need support. ( james ) in the east bay. concord police are removing big r-v's that are illegally taking up space for days, weeks and even months. cell phone video shows a man appearing to be upset as police were standing by while

his r-v was being towed. it was one of two large rv's that were removed from flamingo drive yesterday. a woman was living in the other r-v. one neighbor says neither of them have the money to get their vehicles back from impound.

everything inside was destroyed. but the family is safe thanks to 11 year old berlin gomez-muniz. she smelled smoke and woke everyone up to get out. family lost everything, including their christmas presents. firefighters saw that and dropped off new bikes for berlin and her sister. over the project's largest contract ever. capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains. more conflict between california and the federal railroad administration on the state's multi-billion dollar bullet train project.according to letters provided by rail authority fra is urging hit the brakes project's contract ever.contract track and high electrical cover future jose to bakersfield. funding for the fra wrote speed rail premature for to undertake design-build current packages significant and building the necessary civil high speed rail brian kelly letter was disappointing. he replied saying the fra "demonstrates a continued disengagement on this project that appears intended to authority's commitment to meet its federal obligations."((az)) this is the latest in a funding feud between the federal government and high speed rail authority.. earlier this year the state sued the fra for the tried to claw back from the project.that happened after governor a speech that the project's original vision of san francisco to los angeles would cost too much and take too long.newsom later clarified the comments, project's current focus is on a segment from bakersfield to merced, with expected. the fra has said this is not what it agreed to. the court the clawed back money is still ongoing. a high speed rail authority spokesperson said thursday they are still waiting to hear back from the federal government on the latest contract. tag.

prosecutors say -- they didn't find any animal cruelty or criminal activity linked to scores of horse deaths at santa anita park. the l-a district attorney formed a task force after 56 horses died between last july and this november. the d-a says -- greater precautions are needed but improved safety policies ádidá reduce the number of fatal racing and training incidents.
