>>in san jose, michelle kingston kron 4 news. a live look outside on this new year's day 2020 we've been playing peek-a-boo with golden gate bridge tonight, but there it is a jumping out plain sight right now it was a really find an earlier chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with a look at the forecast, yeah, looking good we had the sunshine, the clouds rolling through today kind of gloomy. >>along the immediate coastline are seeing some that fog moving again, here's a live shot for you right now i see some fog moving in along the coastline and up above some mid to high level clouds kind a gorgeous shot. >>for your first sunset of 2020 and no rain just yet but that may change in the next few days high pressure overhead. but you see all those clouds rolling over the top of that ridge and that's what we have throughout the day today that kept temperatures cool, especially that fog along the coastline. right now we've got a cool 55 degrees in san francisco, 56 in oakland. it is 55 degrees in san jose 54 live more 55 in concord and 56 degrees in santa rosa. watch out for the big time waves moving in along
the coastline, a high surf advisory in effect until 9 o'clock in the morning on thursday, some of these waves over 20 feet, so certainly a that's a major concern stay off the rocks and the sticker waves and come up and take away when the that large and it will take time for those waves to subside so try and stay away from the rocks or the next 24 hours. and the temperatures around the bay area tomorrow. i think we're looking good. i think we'll more sunshine tomorrow numbers going to warm up just a little bit on some mid 60's in a place like santa rosa about 65 in livermore 64 in concord inside the bay should be very nice to plenty of 60's along the coastline, still a little bit cooled number generally in the 50's but then things begin to change show by friday we start to see a few more clouds begin to move in our skies late in the day and then late friday night and into saturday morning. another chance of some rain lawrence in national news tonight. president trump's foreign policy agenda is getting crowded. >>this with a new threat from north korea and uncertainty

>>2019 social movements, they also inspired changes in law for example, the me too movement that had more people coming forward with stories of abuse and in response. some states are relaxing deadlines to bring lawsuits against the people accused. >>let's step outside see all things are shaping up as we look into the first day and night of 2020 that area was covered with fireworks, a just about 6 hours ago. >>and they moved in and get it all cleaned up no time at all that is amazing thousands upon thousands of people down there last night enjoying a the end of 2019 the 2020 and here we go starting with some patchy fog out there tonight and never going to see a little bit more that looking toward simple usually when you get a low cloud deck like that the read about some delays but here's the good news. no delays at sfo on this first day of 2020 no delays in oakland or san jose either is we've got a couple clouds out there the temperatures today a little cool in the san francisco after their little fog so slightly below the average just above the average
in oakland today, 59 the high in san jose 60 degrees. and then running above the average in the live more 61 the hot spot that was conquered at 66 degrees 11 degrees above the average is 64. in santa rosa that we did have plenty of clouds moving across the skies today and you have that patchy fog just hugging the coastline making for some gloomy conditions out toward the beaches and the clouds moving up above that kept the temperatures from getting all that warmer see that tonight now as high pressure builds in tonight going to start to see more of a northerly wind and that normally would should begin to clear out some of your skies is that ridge strengthen so to be cool night out there's going to be chilly in spots, inland 54 degrees right now in fremont and hayward 55 in san mateo 55 also in san francisco, 50 now. in fairfield and 56 degrees in santa rosa. overnight tonight you can see some partly cloudy skies to begin with that some clearing later on and then that means temperatures going to drop off a bit possible rhinos in the 30's and 40's tomorrow should be mostly sunny. it's going to cool on
the coastline of a mile inside the bay and the valleys and then we start to talk about the chance of some rain as we get the weekend but right now this ridge of high pressure been holding most the energy from the storm systems to the north but had some those clouds drop over the top that ridge today, this ridge will strengthen tomorrow a little bit and that means that will send most those clouds to the north maybe just a few high clouds moving up above otherwise, mild temperatures away from the coastline and mainly in the 60's all right overnight tonight you see the northerly winds start to kick in there and that helped to clear out your skies into tomorrow morning going to plans tomorrow looks like a very nice day around the bay area lot of sunshine all day long which the couple passing high clouds and the temperatures up to be pretty nice sear in the mid 60's in some warmer spots in limon the livermore and all 7 rows about 64 and concord 61 degrees in oakland about 62 degrees in san jose. and then some 50's back along the coastline looking out to 2020 here, we've got a few more clouds coming our way on friday, especially in the afternoon with a chance of rain early on saturday. thank you for getting a glimpse of white space x missions could look like space x ceo elon musk has
