okay. >>at least one story that we drove past this morning in sunnyvale was still open. there's contact tracing being done among the employees and costco customers are being reminded to check for their own symptoms and to do their part to slow the spread. >>altogether 31 employees have tested positive for coronavirus throughout the month of july across 4 different costco stores in santa clara county. the location in mountain view reported for employees got sick between july 15th and 29th. that site has yet to be inspected by the county. the store in gilroy had 6 cases between july 24th and 30th. the one in sunnyvale had 13 confirmed cases between july 23rd and 26th. and the costco site in san jose on center had 8 cases between july 17th and 22nd. the last 3 locations were all inspected by the environmental health department this week and met the standards all of the costco stores that were. >>inspected met the standards that we expect in all the customer areas. and we did

make some recommendations relative to a couple of the employee only areas otherwise they did very well and they have been good and partners with the public health department in maintaining those protocols and safety at the costco store. >>the county goes through a seven-step process when there is a positive case founded a business preliminary investigation shows a costco is complying with social distancing and other protocols and many of the cases have been caused by community transmission. most likely not internally among employees, the union representing those employees also backed that costco stores are going above and beyond to protect them along with customers for example using higher and larger plexiglass said checkout stands while also enforcing mask requirements. their rep calls the coronavirus insidious and highlights the need for ramped up testing for frontline workers who are at higher risk with a faster turnaround of the results of the survey. >>absolutely essential and

10,000 cases, the number of people in san francisco hospitals has gone up since april. >>on april 11th there were 94 patients hospitalized that number dropped to 29 on june 18th but in the past 6 weeks as you can see there's been an upward trend starting right there there are now a 107 people hospitalized about a quarter of them are in intensive care. >>but we have to understand that with more virus in the community now than ever before you saw how quickly we went from 5,000 to 6,000 cases, the odds of somebody being infected and one of these gatherings has increased dramatically over the debt over the last few weeks. please please don't gather. >>according to doctor grant colfax large social gatherings, happening in the city are contributing to that search to try and get out in front of a potential surge in hospitalizations the city announced it is building a new temporary hospital to free up beds for covid patients.

up this restaurant, it says it's right now temporarily closed but according to the owner. it's permanently closed. >>and torn live for us in north beach stand, thank you very much an investigation is underway at stanford university after 2 swastikas were drawn on campus university officials say the graffiti was found monday on a hallway wall in the campuses memorial church. in a statement stanford the frat stanford president condemned the act calling the swastika symbol of hate and anti semitism that has no place on campus. staff say they believe the vandalism could have occurred as early as the 4th of july weekend. authorities say they're investigating the incident as a hate crime. president trump now says he does not want november's election delay despite floating that very idea on twitter this morning in that tweet earlier today the president claimed quote 2020 will be the most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history, but he did not provide any evidence to support that claim.

died bringing that county's death toll to 31. these recent deaths involved people 65 or older with underlying health conditions than they were people living in skilled nursing facilities. the deaths occurred at 3 different facilities, one in sonoma to in petaluma county health officials say they are doing the best they can to protect those who are vulnerable. >>the university of southern california is dealing with an outbreak of the coronavirus spread across the university's greek row, the chief student health officer told the los angeles times. the school has detected about 40 positive covid-19 cases in the fraternity community. reports say about a 150 usc students and employees have tested positive for the virus. usc and other universities have moved to have moved to online classes in an effort to try to keep students staff and local community safe during the pandemic. police are looking into to several reports of people intentionally coughing on others in nevada county. in

in fact what's going to happen. here's a nice idea says it made its way over puerto rico over the dominican republic. kind of weakening just a little bit as it passes by you can see the eye moving here not a well-defined center of the system just yet not a true i've a hurricane but that will soon change there we go maximum sustained winds now 80 miles per hour. so now officially a hurricane moving to the northwest at 18 miles per hour continue to track toward florida and then right off the coastline there you go by 08:00pm on saturday that storm system possibly a category one just off the coast remember the original track was going to move on shore moves over land to start to lose some of that energy so now it kind of just rates the coastline and then watch what happens all along the coast here continuing until monday possibly making landfall in north carolina near morehead city may be cape hatteras we have to watch it very closely and then could but new england as we get toward later in the week. so certainly an interesting storm to watch could be potentially dangerous

to fog out there right now around the bay area cloudy skies all around as we see that fog move well on shore high pressure kind of a blocking ridge sitting out there right now and it's over the desert southwest, not allowing anything to come in our way so kind of rain between here very hot temperatures as you make your way and arizona 4 corner states but otherwise california get inland. it certainly hopping along the coastline enough of the sea breeze still to keep us fairly cool about 65 degrees in san francisco, 71 and sunny and nice in oakland tomorrow sunny and warm in san jose at 80 degrees and we're going to see plenty of low clouds and fog stretch on short time maybe even a couple batches of drizzle along the immediate coastline 00:30am in the morning you seen some of that patchy fog early on giving way to sunshine again summer in the bay area looking good and the fog is shoot back on shore as we head toward the afternoon right next few days we're going to see those temperatures are hovering just about the same little breezy as we get in towards sunday and monday but maybe a little more sunshine too. >>up next some land in kansas

this old golf course most of that runs on volunteer power people who loved horses and want to give them new life volunteers from 9 years old to 90 years old bread says it's a win-win month last year 52 horses came through the gates all but 5 found permanent matches most of the horses we end up with would have gone to an auction and from the auction to a kill pen something fred has a hard time thinking about that a lot of calls we take this what we've never said no for some it's an end of life whole southern more senior horses that came the end of their life they didn't have anywhere to go and i came here for others, it's a rehab and a new home real feeling of accomplishment both feeling really for the horse to a new life for an old golf course and some older horses looking for a whole you learn to love the horses and nationally following up with them while they're here. now as alan shope reporting for us tonight and that wraps up kron 4 news at 9 can larson i will be back at the top of the hour. >>russia toner stirring up
