>> now at 10 chaos on the golden gate bridge to protest against vaccine mandates shut down rush hour traffic and amid the confusion 5 people were injured. thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 10. i'm pam moore. i'm catherine heenan in for ken wayne. this began with dozens of people at the golden gate bridge. welcome center. but over the next 3 hours they kept moving closer to the street and then began blocking traffic and then during the chaos there was a crash that left 5 people injured. kron four's dan thorn has been following the story all evening. he's live at the bridge tonight with the latest. dan. >> well, catherine pam, a much different scene here from what we were looking at a few hours ago really hectic out here along the golden gate bridge, especially along the northbound lanes, which as you can see behind me are operating just fine. tonight there was a major crash that happened here and also a pretty big protest. an anti vaccine mandate protest. but let's begin with that crash. take a look at this video chp

confirming with us tonight that at least 5 people were injured when a car smashed into a street sweeper again. chp confirming that information with us. we learned from them that 2 of the victims that were hit where police officers they had to be taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. the 3 other victims we're told are golden gate bridge district employees. they too, were suffering minor injuries. and as you could see by this video, the vaccine mandate protest that was up was happening this all began at golden gate bridge. welcome center was a rally that was on shared on social media. the protest was not permitted to happen here along the bridge. and we understand the protesters were actually trying to cross the bridge. at one point, but they were kept from doing that. dozens of people showing up here. they were waving flags and saying that the vaccine mandates are fear mongering and that they are government overreach on social media again this was being called an axe. the vax event we heard from some of those protesters earlier

tonight. and this is what they had to say about the protest. >> i feel it's a medical choice and a health to decide if you want to have a something injected into your body. we should be able to make our own choices that are right for. >> for our bodies, for our families, for children. that is the essential part of being in this country of being an american and no one should be forced to have a medical treatment that they do not want. >> again, we're taking a look at the traffic that's out things moving smoothly again. but for a few hours there, things are back to well up into the city. this event here tonight was supposed to wrap up around 6.30. but of course it last a little bit longer than that. we've seen a few stragglers out here. but for the most part, everyone has dispersed. protesters and the emergency personnel that were here before. again, just a really hectic scene just a few hours ago. but things seem to be back to normal here along the golden gate bridge

tonight. that's the latest here live at the golden gate bridge. dan thorn kron 4 news and dan, good to see the cars moving smoothly up behind you there. thank you, dan. >> new at 10 o'clock fire officials and brett would say one man has died. another was injured in an apartment fire. a dog was also killed. that fire broke out about one 30 this afternoon. and anna single story apartment building on nancy street fire crews found the 2 men and the dog inside one of the man was revived at the scene taken to the hospital. the other man and the dog did not survive. it is not clear yet what started that fire. >> oakland police are investigating 3 separate shootings that happened in a span of about 12 hours. most recently. police say a woman was shot about 1 o'clock this morning in front of lake merritt. she is said to be in grave condition tonight. there was also a shooting around 9.20 last night on 97th avenue near the oakland zoo. police

say a man was shot several times and is still in the hospital and then there was a shooting that we first told you about last night a woman was hospitalized after being shot outside the fox theater in downtown oakland. police say she is expected to survive. no arrests have been made in any of the shootings. and there is no word on any suspects today we talked with to oakland city council members, both of whom are running for mayor. we want to hear about their plans to address gun violence in the city. >> it is important that we have a law enforcement presence to hold the line while we are also investing to address the root causes that lead to the public safety challenges we face. i have fought for better public safety. >> we fought for historic investments in violence. prevention is always important that if we can prevent this from happening before it happens. that is what we should do. >> as of tonight, the city of oakland has recorded 119 homicides this year. but today

is veterans day. a day meant to commemorate to honor those in uniform and all they have sacrificed many cities across the bay area. held unique celebrations to highlight our local veterans in the south bay, for example, the veterans day parade did returned to downtown san jose, last year. you might remember it was a virtual celebration. officials say this is one of the city's oldest traditions. it is in its 103rd year. the theme this year heroes in motion and today's parade featured more than 70 the petaluma parade also returned today, kron 4 ella sogomonian joins us with a look at those ceremonies ella pam from petaluma to sandra fell. it was a beautiful display of both pride and recognition of our veterans today. >> the patriotic parade made

its way along downtown petaluma thursday afternoon. people honored past present and future service members. this year's theme was welcome home to all vietnam veterans paying special tribute to the men and women of the armed forces who served from 1961 to 1975 specifically they highlighted 15 petaluma men who lost their lives in vietnam. there was a symbolic fly over and landing of the vietnam era helicopter to. >> earlier this morning a veterans day ceremony was also hosted at the marin county civic center right next to the military memorials guest speakers placed wreaths there and shared their gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans were the ones that hit the front line with the ones that raise our hands and say yes. >> and time of need in our communities need to honor the veterans in january 2020 on one single night. >> nationwide. nearly 40,000 of our veterans were estimated to be sleeping on the streets. one board supervisor said that

the county has made strides in housing and made note of a new pathway to shift veterans away from jail time. >> we actually established a veterans court in marion county. it's very innovative and it's a way to actually pair veterans involved in the criminal justice system with the services that and as an alternative to incarceration, it's really off to a great epstart. >> so happy to hear the marine county leaders today are committing themselves to getting local vets into housing and the marin county veterans service office actually helps veterans their spouses as well as their children to obtain all types of benefits, some of which they may not even be aware they're entitled to homeward bound is another program up in marin county. if you don't know about it, it partners with the u.s. department of veterans affairs and offers a wide variety of services to homeless veterans in marin county. pam. >> thank you, ella. and in

alameda today there was a special veterans day the hangar deck of the uss hornet, the veterans in the audience will recognize also veterans who died in the line of duty was remembered with a wreath laying ceremony off the fan tail of the ship. >> and in placer county today, there's a special ceremony to honor marine sergeant killed in afghanistan. this year. 23 year-old, nicole. gee died during the attack at the kabul airport in august today. her family accepted a plaque in her honor. it's been installed at a memorial and the city of lincoln. >> for us. you know, it. it's nice to know that she. died doing what she loved. you was my favorite person in the universe and i'm a all day. every >> family starting xi were among those who said they hope people will always take time to remember the military who veterans who died in the line of duty.

>> on this day 100 years ago americans laid to rest an unidentified soldier from world war one creating one of the most sacred monuments in this nation today and a solemn ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier president biden saluted and gave thanks for the men and women who have served this country. >> it marks the first veteran stay in 20 years that the u.s. has not been at war. washington correspondent anna wiernicki has that story. >> good evening. today president biden saluted the nation's military veterans as heroes and he told the families of service members that he understands what they've been through remembering his son beau who was an iraq war veteran. >> at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. president joe biden laid a wreath at the foot of the tomb of the unknown soldier in arlington cemetery. you are the very spine of america, not just the back the spine of this country. >> and all of us, all of us.

been exposed take care of us will take care of you. if you fight for us will fight for you. and today the president also asked congress to extend the time that veterans have to make claims relating to their service. >> after they've been released or discharged for now in washington. i'm anna wiernicki. back to you. >> all right. time for a look at the forecast as we're inching closer to friday. this is a live look at coit tower in san francisco. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with a look to the weekend-long giving quite our asia golden gate bridge just looking nice out there tonight is we've got clear skies around the bay area. what a day to day just beautiful. sunshine above normal temperatures all around the bay area. still a bit soggy out there as you may have noticed, if you walk in groups are long. we've had so much rain to start out the season. so it's nice to get the break here. we really need it. and outside right now looking good beautiful out toward the golden gate bridge, lots of clear skies, maybe a patch or 2 of fog there. by tomorrow morning. not going to be much these temperatures, though, today 69 degrees almost 70 in

downtown san francisco, 68 in oakland, a beautiful 73 in san jose 69 livermore concord checking it. 71 and 73 degrees in santa rosa numbers out there right now begin to cool off that. so what tell us that this time of year those numbers going to drop off, especially in the north bay valleys. you're seeing the temperatures coming down now, 52 in petaluma. 54 in santa rosa likely down to the 40's in some of the north bay valleys overnight tonight. now the big change in the weather pattern high pressure building in the big dome of high pressure sending the jet stream. well, to the north, they're getting pummeled by heavy rainfall. now in the 7 northwest, you see all those storms just kind of rolling in that atmospheric river taking aim for the north and they're seeing some bob possibility of some flooding. you see the areas shaded in red. those some of the tributaries and some of the rivers that they are expecting to see some flooding along those spots are specially in washington. so they're getting the rain. we're catching a break here right now, just a bit of a sea breeze kind of kicking in

right now. we're going to see more of that overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. but i think by tomorrow afternoon again, we're enjoying some gorgeous weather. lots of sunshine coming our way. get ready. it's going to be a nice day to get out there about the middle today. enjoy your lunch temperatures up in the mid 70's inland. some 60's along the coastline. and you know what, it may just last for the weekend. we're going to talk about that. you're 1010, coming up. a few minutes. all right, lawrence, thank you. now to national news. a texas college student who suffered a brain injury from the astroworld festival. chaos to new son has died. >> 22 year-old bharti shahani passed away late last night becoming the 9th casualty of that concert sisaster. 8 other people died last friday night. hundreds more were injured at the travis scott concert. the victims include a 9 year-old boy who remains in a medically induced coma. a criminal investigation is underway as protocols during that festival and now being questioned. the defense has rested its case in the murder trial of kyle

rittenhouse the 18 year-old shot and killed 2 men and wounded a 3rd. >> using an ar 15 style rifle. the shooting happened last year. it was during a protest against police and kenosha. wisconsin rittenhouse as he shot the man in self-defense. closing arguments are expected to begin monday. a controversial scene inside a georgia courtroom today, a defense attorney for one of the 3 men charged with murdering ahmaud arbery. >> objected to having nationally recognized civil rights leaders like al sharpton or jesse jackson attend the trial. the attorney said the presence of high-profile black leaders could be intimidating to the jury of 11 whites and one black. >> obviously there's only so many pastors 2nd half and the fact that in past is al sharpton right now. that's fine. but then that's it. more black package coming in here for jesse jackson, whoever was in was here earlier this week saying with the victim's family trying to influence a

jury in this case. >> the reverend al sharpton responded by saying the arrogant insensitivity of attorney kevin gough and asking a judge to bar me or any minister of the family's choice underscores the disregard for the value of the human life lost and the grieving of a family in need of spiritual and community support. >> american olympic gold medalist suni lee says that she was pepper sprayed in a racist attack. she says that attack happened last month while she was waiting for a ride in los angeles. it was all during her stint on dancing with the stars. the gold medal gymnast told pop sugar that she was out with a group of her girlfriends. all of asian descent when a car drove up with people shouting racist slurs. she says one of the passengers sprayed her arm was pepper spray before driving off. she says there was just nothing she could do about it. >> still ahead tonight, a dire warning from the cdc. wyatt says one of the deadliest

>> this is pretty dramatic. this is new video a man stealing an atm from a hair salon ripping apart the entire store front in the process. you can this happened in las vegas and you can see the man whose ties a rope to the atm and then to his truck when he drives away with the atm in tow. he leaves behind a path of destruction with all of the front windows of that business shattered vegas. police are still investigating and new tonight, san jose police have arrested a man who's accused of committing crimes while acting as a spiritual leader.

42 year-old jorge neverett is accused of crimes, including the rape of a child under the age of 15 police say it happened between october of 2020 in august of this year. it is unclear where never at was serving as that spiritual leader. san francisco community is in mourning after a teacher died while. >> walking to school. this was yesterday morning. a car hit 30 year-old andrew seaman by sherman elementary school that's near franklin and union and the cow hollow neighborhood. family members say they're in shock. his cousin told kron 4 news they just don't understand how it happened. his death marks the 12th pedestrian death on the streets of san francisco. this year. we have the tools in our tool box to redesign our streets. so cars can drive and that we are prioritizing our most vulnerable in our streets. >> the principal of sherman elementary said seaman was patient too kind. a very

positive role model today. some neighbors were out on the corner where this happened, trying to get drivers to slow down. richmond mayor tom is accusing fellow city council members of plotting a coup. this is a day after the council voted to condemn him for comments he made in recent months about the richmond city manager. the issue stems from the mayor's newsletters where he regularly posts information on his website on several locations. the mayor has disparage the job performance of city manager larson. i'd been. and so the of turner attorney to risa stricker tuesday. the council did vote to direct the city attorney to censure the mayor for improperly disclosing attorney client information. the mayor has responded saying as a city council member and mayor. i have a duty to be critical if warranted of the city manager and let her know when and how her actions fall below what i believe the community expects

>> if you haven't already noticed, get ready for sticker shock as you head to the grocery store to get ready for the holidays. inflation is really driving up prices and this is partly because of the backlog at the ports in southern california. some good news that backlog appears to be easing a little since companies will soon be facing fines for sitting at the ports too long. but the supply chain problems could still take several months to resolve and that means it could cause a shortage of goods and higher prices. forcefully to go reports from concord where some shoppers admit they are struggling.

>> with thanksgiving. 2 weeks away. judy burmeister stopped by safeway on clayton road in concord to get a leg up on preparing for the holiday meal and the trip turned into a costly visit by a turkey for a just a very small 10 pound. turkey was 20 to 90. >> so i i can't believe it in are you sure you did that, right. i made go through it again because i couldn't believe the price. so, yes, it has doubled it has doubled and our paychecks have not double and good luck making breakfast. bacon prices are up 20% this year. eggs are 12% more expensive. >> inflation and the struggle grocers and their suppliers are experiencing trying to keep shelves stocked are contributing actually just fried our last bacon this morning from what we purchase. so i don't know what the prices on the next purchase, although some shoppers say they feel like they're being gouged ultimately they'll make the purchase if they need the

item rather than spending extra time looking for a bargain. i used to do that with my father in law. and it drove me crazy because we had to go to a lot of stores in one day. >> and so now i just go the first or you can and get what they need. shoppers seem to have better luck finding deals at the food max down the street deals that were mostly off brand if they were not already sold out everything to me governor and economists say shoppers should expect prices to rise well into next year. >> in concord, police called kron 4 news. >> the faa has issued more than $225,000 in fines to at least 10 unruly passengers. the new cases involved passengers who show the flight attendants used expletives threw fits and refuse to comply with a federal mask mandate on airplanes. one of those cases included the passenger who officials say got combative on a flight from new york to los angeles forcing the pilot to return to the terminal gate and delay

their takeoff. and this just in to the kron 4 news. and tonight we are hearing from one of the neighbors who spotted that stolen car we told you about at the top of this newscast in pittsburgh that had a one year-old child in the backseat. >> well, we heard the amber alert, but i had no idea that the thing about my house. >> police say the baby's father got out of the car to talk to someone but left the engine running a woman then walked up to him asked for a cigarette. and when the man said no, she jumped in the car and drove away. an amber alert was issued and police found the car with the baby safely inside in a parking lot just after 07:30pm tonight, neighbors say they knew something was wrong when they heard crying. >> the neighbor had called me and i called her back. she told me that it was weird. they pulled up and the pilots blocking here. they were blocking a driveway and was just sitting here and they said it was weird because they heard the baby screaming crying, screaming crying and

then they looked in their last. the life of a near the door was open and they got the baby. is is scares me because i asked. >> i mean, question one had to pick up the challenge. this is crazy. this is crazy. this is insane. >> the suspected car thief is described as a white woman in her 30's with a face tattoo. she has not yet been found by authorities. >> after what was a really beautiful day in the bay area. time for another look at the forecast as we think about the weekend ahead this is a live look at the view over the city from our camera on mount tam and our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow says another beautiful days ahead. yeah. should be gorgeous tomorrow. of course, getaway friday. if you're headed out and about we've got some great weather to travel. and of course we've had that snow up in the sierra nevada. we've got some fresh snow up there. >> and you got a lot of sunshine now to make your roadways nice and clear. and that's what's going to say in most parts of california, there's one exception. i'll show you that the second up

toward sfo tonight. skies remaining mostly clear right now. we may see a couple patches of fog developing along the coastline a little bit later on. no delays, of course, they reported the sfo oakland or san jose a have of the monterey bay for tomorrow. it is looking beautiful. should see some sunshine about 67 degrees in santa cruz in the afternoon. 73 degrees carmel valley 66 in carmel by the sea and 61 in monterey. it is going to be a bit on the warm. the hot side in southern california in 94 degrees in anaheim tomorrow. but 86 in san diego, 87 degrees in downtown los angeles and the high country. yeah, those temperatures warm up very spring-like up there. of course they have that nice know some of the ski resorts are open up their the mid 60's in the truckee 63 degrees. south lake tahoe and 69 degrees in reno. but we're if you're sticking around for the weekend should be a nice weekend up. they're going to see sunshine all weekend long. the good news is the roadways. the other going to be wide open and not much of a freeze

to worry about make icy conditions in the early morning hours. so things looking pretty good travel wise there. another exception for travel around california may be the central valley. we're seeing some dense to leave fog develop along the central valley. you can see right there. that was this morning and then evaporate as the sun comes up. and as we head toward the afternoon lifts a bit, but do expect some that the reform overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. so if you're going on, i 5 or 99 in the central valley towards southern california be prepared likely to run into some of that dense fog early on now around the bay area for tomorrow. we'll see changes coming our way. high pressure in control may become a patch of fog along the coastline early tomorrow morning that a whole lot of sunshine coming our way as we head toward the weekend that big dome of high pressure going to take care of lot of sunshine. it looks like some great weather ahead. in fact, these numbers tomorrow looking very nice and downtown san francisco about 65. you're going to see temperatures a little bit cooler along the coastline. but pleasant couple patches of fog and some sunshine out toward the beaches. plenty of sunshine in the bay. 70 millbrae look at the 72 degrees in redwood city, going to be filled with

70's, mid 70's tomorrow afternoon east bay also looking very nice and sunny and bright warm temperatures. a lot of part of the day. 71 degrees in berkeley 71 in oakland. 74 in concord. so you get the idea some nice warm temperatures all around the bay area looks like the weather is going to hold through the weekend. are 1010, showing temperatures staying warm right through the weekend. then cooling down by next tuesday. a few more clouds coming our way. but right now, no rain expected in the next 8 days. a nice forecast. gorgeous. yeah. thank you. all thank you, lawrence. >> new at 10 o'clock, california is joining a new global partnership aimed at reducing fossil fuels. the beyond oil and gas alliance or bogut. it was launched today at the climate summit in glasgow, scotland. the aim to encourage countries to make the transition from oil and gas production to cleaner energy. governor newsome says climate change is a problem that can no longer be ignored. he says california has already experienced the consequences firsthand.

>> extreme heat extreme while fires extreme drought and a growing recognition of the adverse health effects that climate change is impacting upon our communities as well as increasing financial costs. >> newsom has pledged to end the sale of new gas cars in california by 2035 and phase out oil production. no later than 20 45 some climate advocates are saying the wealthiest economies need to join this effort to make it more meaningful. the california redistricting commission has released the draft maps for the congressional and legislative districts. >> the final decision that they make could affect how you will cast your vote in future elections. our capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains what's next and how you can play a role in this process. >> the draft maps are officially out for california's updated districts for elected officials in the state legislature and congress

our goal is to draw a fair maps alicia fernandez is one of the 14 member commission tasked with redrawing district lines. a process that must be done every decade following the census, the commission's main responsibility is to make sure districts across the state are all about the same size and population geographically make sense and protect voting rights of ethnic groups leading up to the draft map released the commission had marathon meetings this week to figure out how to divvy up districts with each representing about 988,000 people in the state senate. 494,000 in the state assembly and about 761,000 in congress doing the best we can and it is. >> i will say it was like just sometimes painful sometimes frustrating just just this week, emotions these last 4 days where i just feel great in the latest census, california lost a congressional seat going from 53 to 52, which has thrown a wrench into the already complicated process. the draft map shows that last created a ripple effect across the state

instead of affecting one single area. everyone's trying to guess. >> who lost the c. i don't think anyone lost a seat per se because we just. >> because of our population and the population nationwide. we're just having to put a few more people. we need to district commissioners. know the key word at this stage of the process is draft, meaning the maps they approved this week are not set in stone and will likely see changes. we know that they're not perfect. >> and. and with that, we're just hoping the california hall in right. whatever it takes, he was in the back but also understand that these districts have to be. pretty close in population to one another. so if if you want something and we've got to take something out for the next couple of weeks. the redistricting commission will be taking public comment on the draft maps before finalizing them ahead of their december. 27th deadline commissioners say they have set a goal to finish them. december 20th at the state capitol. ashley zavala kron 4 news. >> the commission's next public meeting is scheduled

for this saturday. and if you want to see those maps along with more information on your possible district. >> just head to we draw the lines ca dot org. well, no fully vaccinated adult in california should be denied a covid booster shot. that's according to the director of the state department of public health. health officials are trying to encourage as many people as possible to get a booster as soon as possible. people 18 and older can get the shot as long as at least 6 months has passed since their second dose of the 2 shot pfizer or moderna vaccine or 2 months after getting the johnson and johnson toes. many doctors fear that the slow early demand for boosters could increase the chances of another winter surge. >> the cdc is warning that measles could make a comeback. it says the threat is getting worse since more than 22 million babies have missed getting vaccinated because of the pandemic. measles is one of the most contagious viruses known to man. as of the year

2000, it had killed more than a million people. the cdc says measles vaccinations prevent more than 31 million deaths worldwide. every year. the subway to note lawsuit is back with a twist. this time the plaintiffs are claiming 19 of 22 and samples from subway locations all over southern california had no detectable tuna dna. they say the samples all contained. at least one other animal protein like chicken or pork or beef. the lawsuit claims that subway do plaintiffs into buying premium price products. attorneys for subway say they will file a motion to dismiss the claims. the amended lawsuit by the way, is now the 3rd one filed this year. >> still ahead tonight, how some veterans in california are still being remembered even by people who did not know them. >> and in sports, the hardware just keeps rolling in for the

good samaritan in australia. this guy might have a future in the nfl yesterday. police were chasing a man suspected of stealing a car when the man left the car, you see him there running through a park, but a bystander actually manage to make a textbook open field. tackle as that happened yet. i look at that guy move. but to the man who tackled him did a great job there it is held him until police arrived. the suspect has now been charged with more than a dozen offenses out. well, a vacaville family says they just could not wait for their son to be born and apparently
