8:00 am
long it might take before they fix it. >> good morning, guys. see at crews are here picking up the last bit of debris that flew off from that 18 wheeler. the driver of the truck hit a guardrail. but as you can see, that guardrail is no longer haftar rebuild. it and chp about what it was earlier this morning around one 20. that's when on highway one. oh, one, we have downtown novato exit chp says the driver of that big break. you see on your screen was going south on highway 1 one driver fell asleep and crashed into a guardrail. >> the 18 wheeler was carrying big chunks of scrap metal. the ap says the big rig flipped onto the side of the road. the debris that flew onto the northbound lanes of highway one. oh, driver in a separate
8:01 am
car crashed into the metal, but is okay. the person driving the 18 wheeler walked away with minor injuries. i like i said, how trans has to rebuild the guardrail. the driver crashed into for safety reasons. the help that about 7. well, 9 hours. but once that's done they will reopen all lanes. now currently one lane is open on the southbound lanes and 2 lanes are closed going north here. but again, this on highway one. oh, one near the downtown novato exit. if you're going traffic is growing steadily out to the francisco area back to, you thank you. we know exactly because rain has been following that on the map. team coverage out in the traffic center. good morning. dana. good morning. it's back to pass dale. so as you're traveling along, look at that here. it's you're definitely seeing a delay. so.
8:02 am
>> the good news we've been following this all morning. but now we've got more lanes open. so again, this is south of the long avenue. novato on the southbound side. if you're traveling like she mentioned down one lane is closed. the rest of them are now open on the northbound side, 2 lanes blocked 2 lanes open because earlier today we had multiple lanes all close, but you are still seeing delays because traffic is still going slow because they have cones there and they're still working through that. so i would not suggest don't take want to win it all. just hop over here take lake built a 37 to one o one traveling from the east bay into the city right now. a little under 21 minutes for your drive time. they're 5, 1880, moving along pretty nicely at this hour as you're heading across towards the peninsula. little under 17 with some pockets of fog and low visibility appear martinez southbound 6.80, north of highway for another accident. 2 lanes blocked there. so we're seeing delays along the richmond sandra fell commute a little under 14 and up in santa rosa highway 12 east on east of pipe. the enrolled.
8:03 am
you do have all lanes. the a blot on the eastbound side. so things are busy. it's still really early. and again, we're already seeing all of this happening. john, i'm hoping that the weather is at least making up for what we're seeing on the roadways looks like it's living up to those busy travel day expectations weather isn't necessarily interfering, too terribly much as you mentioned, rain. we've got some of the low visibility pockets as that low cloud cover is resulting in a very misty view out there for a lot of areas. you certainly have that in san francisco blocking out some of the taller buildings in financial district in this view. >> and you can see that showing up in radar in just a couple of those little blips of green. that's nothing more than some misty spots really all in all. so may make the roadway just a bit wet, but it shouldn't slow you down too much mother nature's not making things any more difficult than they already are because of all that traffic 50's for your current temperatures alameda san francisco and oakland to 56 conquered and san mateo at 55 a little cooler for dublin and san anselmo at 51 degrees. each james and daria, thanks a

lot, john. 8. '03, and breaking news this morning. president biden temporarily is transferring power. >> to vice president kamala harris today. yeah, he's going to be undergoing routine colonoscopy. but for the procedure we'll have to have anastasia. and during that window, he'll have to transfer power because that's that's the law. that's what happens when you're incapacitated during that time under a seizure. you can't do anything. so she will be taking over. be the first woman to hold presidential power for however many hours. that is and as i like today say, she does have to get back at some point. yes, we also have some more breaking news to share with you to the u.s. house has just passed president biden's one 0.8 trillion dollar, social safety net and climate bill. >> it's referred to as the build back better act. we've been talking about it this week. democrats say the bill will create jobs. it will tackle climate change and help with the health care costs to like lowering prescription prices, which will all enjoy republicans, though, say the bill is too expensive than includes unnecessary spending. that's why they were against it. but in the end it did pass
8:05 am
the house now has the senate where will be some hurdles there. we'll see what happens. and also just in the fda authorizes booster shots. >> pfizer and moderna. >> for all adults. everybody get a booster. if they want one and that makes everything a lot simpler because it was confusing who could get the shot who could not get the booster. now it's anybody over 18 or older, can choose their booster. 6 months after you had your last dose. it doesn't matter what kind by the way, remember all the experts cdc has said that it would ever is more convenient you can mix and match if you need to out of convenience. they just want to make sure that people do get their booster shot. so that's for anybody who wants one now is the time ahead of gathering that you go ahead and get extra protection of either pfizer or moderna. right. and if you got j and j, i mean, you could get another shot at it here. you can expect tree out. >> okay. now to our big story. as we approach closer closer to thanksgiving, which is
8:06 am
holiday travel is going to be big crush at the airports. yeah. there's already been sorry. before you even woke up this morning getting get up at 5. they were already the airport. so it will tran. let's go back to him now and see how it's going because there's an ebb and a flow going on. what's happening right now. will. >> this is this particular time. the flow is definitely at 5 o'clock in the morning. we showed you it was a crushed of people but not so bad right now is a steady crowd. i think your biggest problem will be at the ticket counter this is alaska airlines. and you can see a lot of people because they will be gone little bit longer than usual that probably can't do that carry on. so they have to check in their luggage. so give yourself a little bit extra time for that for sfo and san jose. this will be their busiest day of the thanksgiving holiday. gone are the days where it's wednesday the day before thanksgiving now is the entire week as schools let out and families are saying why. wait around mistake often 53 million americans will start there
8:07 am
thanksgiving travel on this particular day. keep in mind, obviously it's going to be a lot longer. this is not twenty-twenty remember last year when he was virtually a ghost town with so many people not traveling fearful of what was going on. but with vaccinations. up and a lot of people feeling more comfortable in getting used to wearing masks. more often. then it looks like travel is picking up pretty close to pre-covid conditions. but the flights being either full or mostly full across the country got a chance to talk to some people. they are very happy, believe it or not, to see a crowd. look at the lines. are you kind of caught off guard. are you prepared i didn't expect these lines. we're going to cop votes or 18th yeah, that's crazy. think we got up early. are you going to be there throughout thanksgiving are back home and then go in new york, actually. so on tuesday. we are add on
8:08 am
to say that. well, there's a new storm. so. so speaking of storms, we're hearing that across the country. there could be storms next week that could impact your flight just like that famous movie planes trains and automobiles. but it looks like it's good to go for now. if you're traveling anywhere in the country. look at the lines. remember that james darya 5 o'clock. it was snaking around. not so bad right now. you're coming through. but keep in mask up, they will have plenty of agents to make sure that you do that. and you're good to go 53 million americans oakland. you know, they got to do it a little bit. they got their own love to tell you that they're just like everybody else but oakland being oakland and old school. their busiest day will be wednesday. 50,000 people coming through sfo to i do remember trains planes and automobiles. what would you do. yeah. so the flight is
8:09 am
messed up. well, you got to jump in the car with a stranger and drive across >> you know what i'm waiting around with gas prices. these days. and not renting car. i'm just going to wait until see what's going on inside on sarah stinson. prices. i'm not going anywhere. that's yeah. point the prices are high. we're about that was sarah. so let's say some messes up with a plan and then you drive across the country. it's going to cost you an arm probably more than the flight itself would have. we've got sarah stinson, as we mentioned out there. >> in daly city at the gas station with more. our record prices say sarah. >> now we're seeing these expensive gas prices before our eyes here in daly city, ca seeing at this gas station $4.99 per gallon. that's just for regular gas so it's going to cause those who are driving to their turkey dinner. a lot more than it normally would so expect that. but at least you do get to see your family this year. and that is priceless. let's take a look at average gas prices in the bay area and
8:10 am
the average of california is $4.70 and of course in san francisco. it's more than that. it's $4.88 on average and then oakland's bit cheaper cheaper in quotations, $4.79 santa rosa, the same san francisco and san jose. it's expensive out there and these are gas prices. people are facing in the bay area driving to work every day. it is not fun. 48 million people in the u.s. though, are hitting the roads for this thanksgiving holiday. that's an 8% increase from last year. and if they happen to be driving in california. >> they're going to pay a pretty penny to fill up. i talked to a man here in daly city. he told me how much it costs him to fill up his truck. >> i think that take us $240. >> are you driving anywhere for the holiday. you're going to stay home. don't know. that's part of those and take it right up to my cabin but i figure it's a few bucks. not go up there.
8:11 am
>> so gas prices are affecting what people are doing this holiday season that goes to show you how expensive it really is. so when you head to the pump. >> make sure you prepare for that. how can you really prepare, though. you either you go to a name-brand place like this chevron for 99 for regular gas in the new drive up the street like 3 blocks and it's $4 and $0.45 for non name-brand. so. >> do what you want. but prepare for the roads. make sure your car is all geared up. you've got good tires. you have enough oil. you've checked all of everything you need. even the windshield wipers right now it is. we've had a steady sprinkle here. you never know what you're going to face out there. be prepared. triple a says a lot of people do not get their car ready. they hit the road and they expect to help about 400,000 of their members just during the thanksgiving holiday season. for now reporting live in daly city sarah stinson, back to you. all right. thanks a lot, sarah. happy travels to everybody.
8:12 am
>> 8.11 the is the time also happening right now. we've got kaiser mental health workers on the picket lines to show their support for engineers have been striking for a new contract. we were out there yesterday and walnut creek and this was some of the video we collected where other unions were also there in support will. now we've got psychiatrists therapists social workers. they're all striking in solidarity with the engineers today. the union members have been on strike for the last 2 months amid contract negotiations talks just stalled. they say they've been working under unfair labor practices and very low pay in total. about 2000 mental health. clinicians are going to be on strike today in a statement regarding these negotiations with the engineers kaiser has come out to say that they've been bargaining with the union. yes, for the last several months. it does impact about 600 employees. they add that they don't think the sympathy strikes with these other unions are appropriate. they're asking workers. if you're not alone in the engineers union. police come back to work.

8:19 am
other lanes are open. so as you're traveling trying to get around those delays that are seen lake. they'll remember down to 37 to one o one would be good options for you. traveling from the east bay right now into the city. a little under 21 minutes for your drive time at this hour. moving along a little sluggishly, but not that bad at this hour. heading across towards the peninsula. little under 17 minutes to make that drive some other accidents to tell you about here in san francisco, north one. oh, one south of cesar chavez street to a t not seeing quite that delay. we are seeing where that accident is concentrated along one o one. also here in hayward, north out 8.80, north a little road another accident. mission boulevard might be good alternate if you're trying to get around that and up here martinez southbound, 6.80, north of highway 4 another delay. so look. suggesting for you leave the house a little earlier today and be safe. i out on the road james, back to you. >> 8.19. is the time in san francisco neighbors. well, they're fed up with car break.
8:20 am
ins and now there's a community effort to try and at least help prevent them if they can. a group of volunteers have teamed up with a local nonprofit in there going to tourist hot spots where we've seen a spike in break-ins in the leading these little reminder cards on windows asking people to not forget to like, you know, hide their valuables if they leave him in the car. just don't leave him in there all together. but just some safety tips. their simple act. really? that could go a long way. at the very least we can do is to raise awareness to help people. >> just make sure to protect their valuables to understand that this is going on. let's do our best to make sure that every car. seems an attractive to break into. and i think that that will go a long way from that. her son, even the locals have their guards down for about 5 minutes. >> earlier this week we focused on another community effort to try to help victims of car break-ins. it was an effort by neighbors in richmond where a lot of this stuff ends up getting dumped to try and reunite these items with the people who have had them stolen from them. we have that story on kron 4 dot com. so if you been the victim of a

robbery. check that out. maybe you can find your stuff. >> 20 is a time. and in the east bay, police and martinez are investigating a cannabis delivery driver who was robbed at gunpoint in the daytime. so they're trying to figure out who robbed the driver. the driver was dropping off a shipment of pot to the embark dispensary on alhambra avenue. it was around noon on wednesday when he was approached by 3 men wearing masks. 2 of them had semiautomatic weapons and they stole a big amount of pot and some of the drivers personal belongings as well. nobody was hurt. at least still, neighbors are on edge. and a surprise. >> what teenage very safe this holiday time. so. >> you know, we can expect these things with that necessarily like that. so it is concerning. >> police say the man got away in a newer model black honda sedan was small dent on the back above the rear or rice license plate. now we have an

that big rig you see on your screen was going south on highway one. oh, one, he fell asleep and crashed into a guardrail. the 18 wheeler was carrying big tons of scrap metal. chp says the big rig flipped onto the side of the road debris. onto the northbound lanes of highway one. oh, one. >> the driver in a separate car crashed into the metal. but is okay. the person driving the 18 wheeler walked away with minor injuries now caltrans like i said, is placing a 180 feet of concrete barriers where the guard will to be. this is for the safety of drivers contractors will then come out here another day to rebuild our will and. caltrans is done placing those concrete barriers. they will re open all the lanes. but right now there's only 2 lanes going north and only. >> one lane is closed going south. but if you're heading down south man ahead because traffic is backed up. if
8:33 am
you're going north traffic is going all right. to all right. thanks a lot of camille when it happened. you know, at one 30 in the morning or so. yeah, that's all that's good luck. because it's so early to get cleared batch. a lot of people are going to be hitting the roads later as we get through the day and that's when it's really going to >> terrible impact to. yeah, exactly. but we are still seeing delays as you're traveling along one o one. so south of the long avenue. >> and like she mentioned southbound one. oh, one, one lane close rest of them are open. and on the other side, northbound 2 lanes blocked 2 lanes are open. some telling everybody if you can go ahead and take lake built a 37 to one o one. doesn't look like a lot of people are doing that right now because you can see we're seeing delays along one o one. i don't see much traffic maneuvering there. chp says that is your best route. if you just want to avoid all of those delays are seen along one. oh, one headed into the city right now. little under 20 minutes for your drive time there. 5, 1880, as we're tracking your commute. do

cloudy spots like you're seeing in san francisco behind me and looking at the quite hour right here. >> you can see that it is just one of those gray days. we are seeing a passing system that has resulted in some light showers to misty conditions but nothing in the way of any rain that should slow you down. so just as you're getting out there anticipate what is grey but actually relatively mild conditions right now. san mateo, oakland berkeley each at 56 1 of our cooler spots being dublin livermore over to brentwood at 53 degrees. each. i'll be talking about what things look like into this busy travel weekend. still to come, first, let's go back to the news. daria, thank you, john. it's 35 and this is a big story. >> a woman was shot and killed while she was in a car on a t. >> approaching the bay bridge toll plaza and that was a man driving. she was the passenger seat to kids in the backseat. and this happened yesterday morning, 9 o'clock or 9.15 in the morning. we have a 911. audio. take a listen.
8:36 am
>> so >> she was head by a bullet in her car. she's she was in the passenger seat. as i said, there's the car and being towed away and the man in the driver's seat and the 2 children in the backseat were not hurt. the big question is who did it and the police shut down several lanes while investigators were out searching for evidence. and as of this morning, we still have no information on a possible shut shooter. >> also in the east bay, a man was shot several times at the willow shopping center in hercules. we actually have video of police at the scene investigating looking for evidence. this was yesterday afternoon when a 33 year-old man was shot taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. he's in stable condition this morning. so that's really some good news. but witnesses tell us that it was 2 men who attacked him and then shot him. some of the businesses in the area. as you can see here, suffered some gunfire damage with bullets in the walls. the attackers were
