debate over guns and racial justice reporter kelsey current state has a recap now and the reactions that are pouring in. she joins us live from kenosha. good afternoon to you. good afternoon, justine. wow. >> here on the ground quite calm. quite peaceful for the most part, quite a bit of commotion right after he got that verdict from both sides. you know, we had some people saying breaks in the justice as some others saying the constitution is not dead. but right now it's called we do know 500 national guard troops remain to be on. stand by us marshals on standby as well. but again, kyle rittenhouse found not guilty on 5 felony counts. those counts for homicide. attempted homicide reckless endangering after killing 2 men wounding another out. the moment that cow received that news falling down to the ground. just choking up in tears. his attorneys having to pick him up. he's hugging both of them. he was then take n taken by

private team and taken to a private location to keep him safe. and i i spoke to his. >> media person now who says that their main concern right now is keeping him safe and his family safe but also in the courtroom, the victim's family walking out. you can see they're distraught and upset. wendy rittenhouse grabbing her daughter running up the stairs just tears of joy is what we saw here in the courthouse. but you know, others coming out and making statements. the anthony huber, one of the men that died that night. his family made a statement saying we're heartbroken and angry that that kyle's been acquitted on 5 counts. they said that we could not be in the trials what they said because they could not watch their son being murdered. they also said in that statement they continue to hold those and those responsible for this in full force. the governor wisconsin also making a statement saying we must move forward. it is time to heal and let stand united. the

and john huber released a statement saying there was no justice today for their son, anthony huber. the statement also reads in part, today's verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son. it sends an unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town incite violence and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street. and the attorney representing jacob blake who shooting in kenosha lead to those widespread protests that drew in kyle rittenhouse issued this statement on the verdict today. ben crump wrote if you need yet another example of the 2 justice systems that work in america. look no further than the delayed arrest spectacle of a trial and acquittal of kyle rittenhouse. i pray that this is a travesty of a case. it's just an outlier on our path to a more just system and not a signal of a retreat backwards because simply we cannot afford it. in oakland tonight. we are hearing there will be a

elected leaders were there in attendance. the toddler was hit and killed by a stray bullet in oakland nearly 2 weeks ago. the shooting happened while jasper was caught in the cross-fire of what it police are calling gang-related go fire gunfire along interstate 80. his mother was behind the wheel as they were driving home to fremont. a family spokesperson says they hope this case. we'll bring an end to gun violence. the family also want to express. they do not wish to see anymore. he's kind of killing not only for >> for any you know, some people driving on the street walking down the street on the freeway. we have a day off. >> as of now, there are no suspects in the case and no arrests have been announced. the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that will help solve this case. a reward. they hope will increase in the coming weeks. an investigation is underway after a san

francisco police officer shot and killed the man police are saying just after 8 o'clock this morning. they got a call about a man with a knife on folsom street near 5th street officers arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect. and during this police are saying one of the officers end up shooting the man. who was shot died at the hospital. the holiday travel rush is now on. many people are choosing to start their thanksgiving holiday right now. and kron four's charles clifford has details now from san jose international airport. how's it doing out there today. charles is a busy. >> very busy. so right now i'm on the curb here. medicine to say our national airport. you look behind me there. it kind of comes and goes in waves. people getting dropped off and picked up our bit of a low at the moment. but this has been packed pretty much all afternoon on the airport says it's going to be busy through the entire thanksgiving holiday as people try to get a jump on their thanksgiving travel plans. it's going to take a look at some video from

inside a little earlier today. now over the 11 days sort of around thanksgiving, the airport dissipates about 400,000 passengers will pass through the airport as way more than last year. of course, last year we had the pandemic and people were really traveling that much. now a lot of folks have the vaccine have gotten boosters. we kind of learned how to live with a coronavirus. so people are starting to travel again. i did talk to a couple of folks today who are traveling for the first time. basically in about 2 years and they say it's going well, but there was some anxiety there. >> because the pandemic i was very much hesitant to go out. but with the vaccines that have actually my booster feeling much more confident going out disney people. i mean, and now going for a wedding for a friend. so i'm feeling a pretty good now. >> yeah. the other big thing here at the minetta san jose international airport is if you're coming to this airport, you can make a parking reservation ahead of time that a new feature go online. make a reservation instead of coming down here and trying to find a parking spot when you

company's request to add a drought surcharge to the bills for those customers who failed to cut back their water use by 15% says the company's leanne wallboard ski. it's a way it's that we have basically no choice where we're in a terrible drought and we don't know what this winter will bring. there's the possibility of lightning. you're forming in the pacific. >> which could mean a drier winter northern california. we don't now under the program residential customers are required to cut water use by 15% from 2019 levels. >> or pay $7.13 in surcharges for each unit of water above that amount impacted are as many as a million people in san jose cupertino campbell, los gatos saratoga and money serino of the way it works is let's say your allocations for december 2021 is 15 minutes and each unit is 748 gallons of water. >> and you 16 units will be charged $7.13 for that additional san jose water says

the new rules actually reward people already cutting back by setting a minimum monthly amount. >> if they use the minimum or less know surcharge. the new rules are in response to the june 9th water shortage emergency declared by wholesaler valley water which called on water retailers to reduce consumption by 15% in san jose. rob fladeboe kron 4 news. >> sequoia national park says lightning sparked wildfires in the past 2 years have killed the minimum of 10,000 giant sequoia trees in california. the estimate that was released released today accounts for about 20% of the native sequoias that are the largest trees on earth. the trees are reliant on periodic and low intensity fire and were once seen as fire resistant. both wildfires becoming more extreme in recent years. officials are saying this is the first time the giant trees have been killed in large numbers. extraordinary firefighting measures were used this year to help save

some of the giant sequoias. you might remember seeing images of them covered in that silver foil to help prevent them from burning. in the north bay efforts have already started to stop the threat of wildfires for next year. the city of samara fell is offering a free program to reduce the wildfire fuels and provide better defensible space around homes. the center of all fire department partnered with americorps and marine wildfire. they're focusing on dangerous wild for a fuels run homes ani evacuation routes. >> they're either doing like understory clearance out in the open space areas. so removing highly combustible invasive species such as french broom. >> and mainly really focusing on areas that are. >> within a 100 feet of residential structure. >> several full residents can reach out to the fire department to set up this free service. the program will go until december 17th. and we'll switch gears now to talk a little bit more about the weather as we take a live look

outside here to kind of gloomy shot along the golden gate bridge want to drizzle in the north bay today. a little wet out there in our meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez is here now with a look at the new drought monitor. so it's raining today. any changes, though, from what we're seeing, we need a couple more atmospheric rivers. just seen to get out of this drought. remember, we're still under the worst 2 categories. >> extreme to exceptional drought for most of the bay area did see some improvement in northern california near ukiah where now they're under exceptional to moderate to severe drought. but for us here in the bay area. we're still in that red and maroon tier. but radar for we are still tracking those some light scattered drizzle that will increase for those of you in the north bay but very gloomy. an ominous looking outside with that fog monster out there in full force. for those of you in the east bay over berkeley temperatures out there right now. mid 50's for half moon bay and mid 60's. for those of you in san jose with widespread upper 50's to low 60's for everyone else in

san francisco are neighbors are fed up with car break ins and it's now a new community effort to try and prevent them a group of volunteers with a local nonprofit are going to tourist hot spots in the city and leaving reminders on visitors cards to remove all of their belongings. the nonprofit believes the number of car break ins will increase over the holidays and they want to warn visitors. the reminder is a simple act that could go a long way. >> at the very least we can do is to raise awareness to help people just make sure to protect their valuables to understand that this is going on. let's do our best to make sure that every car. seems an attractive to break into. and i think that that will go a long way from that hearse. and even the locals have their guards down for about 5 minutes. >> earlier this week we focus on another community effort to help victims of car break-ins neighbors in the richmond district are trying to reunite people with their stolen items that have been left behind and city streets. you can.

>> we are taking a live look outside right now. the conditions at san francisco international airport as many people are getting their thanksgiving holiday travel under way early this year. highways and airports are busy and specially noteworthy at sfo. that's where we find kron four's. dan kerman joining us now live from outside the airport and is a busy there today. >> well, it's was busy this morning. a little bit of a low during the middle of the day. now it's starting to pick up a little bit again, as you know, it used to be. it was the day before thanksgiving. that was the busiest travel day at sfo during the thanksgiving season over the years. it has moved to the friday before thanksgiving and this is no different about 50,000 people flying out of sfo this year. and that's a pretty significant number. and the reason is because prepandemic 2019 we typically saw around

55,025 2019. so we're very, very close over the entire week period. they're still off by about a 3rd meeting about 2 thirds of the normal amount of travelers are traveling as they were compared to prepandemic. but it's still a pursuit pretty a significant period for those here at sfo. >> there's always been a significant day because it's typically the busiest day for the thanksgiving travel period. but for us, this has special meaning because today's probably going to be the busiest day for us since the pandemic began. we're expecting over 50,000 people to go through our security checkpoints. and that's really a new milestone for us since this pandemic began. so this is a number we've been chasing for a long time. >> been talking to numerous travelers. now, some of these this is their first trip since the pandemic. the first big trip in about 20 months going to visit family taking a vacation in hawaii, that kind of thing. others that we spoke

budgets pressure from the cost prescription drugs health care premiums. child care, elder care if if we we know that there are caretakers, mostly women, mostly moms who want to find their way into the labor force. but they haven't been able to do so because of their child or elder care responsibilities. this fixes we also know that this is a plan that delivers real resources to families who are raising kids through the child tax credit. we're talking about 3,000 or 3500 depending on the age of your kid per year issued in monthly increments for families to help pay the cost of raising children which we all know is a real stress or on the middle lower income families. >> and now the reality on one hand, white house says it is paid for by taxes. however, the congressional budget office cbo says it may not all be covered. and this bill has a very long road ahead in the senate. senators mansion in

>> a developing story. we're watching this afternoon. congress is advancing a plan to draft women into the military. the provision is part of this year's national defense bill. but the push is being met with some controversy as some republicans are pushing back. our dc correspondent raquel martin has the latest. >> congress is on the verge of making women register for the military draft. women have every ability as a man to serve the provision is part of the national defense bill. the house passed with bipartisan support back in september even though the u.s. currently using the drought system. the bill would require all us citizens between 1826 to sign up regardless of gender identity and i support it being included in the final package. but some senate republicans disagree. i don't quite get it. then. uttered on holly is among a group of republicans pushing back against the measure. i'm going to try to force a vote to return. >> the how it has been, which is that women are not drafted against their will. senator tom cotton says he wants a
