>> from the bay area's news station. you're watching kron 4 news at 6. jumped down the side of the house. >> as a back door and took off with laptops in the middle of the day. >> now in 6, a brazen daytime burglary in belmont. police now searching for this man after he was caught on camera in the back yard of someone's home. good evening. thanks for joining us for kron 4 news at 6. i'm ken wayne and i'm vicki liviakis. pam has the night off. this burglary was reported tuesday afternoon. police believe the suspect is connected to other burglaries in the area. our kron four's gayle ong spoke to the homeowner and some pretty concerned neighbors. belmont police are looking for this man. home security cameras captured his photo seen in someone's backyard in the area of casa bone avenue and corona

at boulevard tuesday around 1215, in the afternoon. a neighbor didn't want to show her face. but explained what happened when she got home the neighbors asked me to go check on the house because the alarm was going off >> and i. come to find out the guy that was sitting in front of my house was the one waiting to pick up the guys and broke into their house and get away. the neighbor says the suspect took off with laptops and remembered seeing a light colored vehicle outside her home. police released a photo of a vehicle of interest, a silver 2021 jeep compass with a california license plate number. rv, the 3, 5, 2 police believe the suspect is connected to other burglaries in the area and are asking residents to review security cameras for any suspicious activity. longtime residents say they will be paying close attention. we have the ring camera and then we always try to leave a light on our cars and our driveway. but i mean, this is a safe neighborhood. it seems really scary. we've got a little kid. so. >> 7, really something to be worried about. so what can i do? you know, i just don't go

nesbitt. he's been talking with infectious disease experts about on the kron and joins us now live in the studio with more on what they have to say about it. rob, the key health experts say there is reason to be concerned kron but no reason to panic vaccine rates, having a big part in that and the department of public health reporting no known cases of the variant in california. mccraw may not be in the bay area but it's causing concern all over the u.s. the white house implementing travel bans for 8 countries in southern africa. >> a move that's drawing criticism from infectious disease. experts like doctor john swartzberg that's not going to help very much. it may help a little bit in terms of slowing the emergence of the virus around the globe. >> but it's not going to stop it. if the variant does spread to the u.s. he says worst case would be another shutdown, but that we already know the steps to avoid that masking social distancing not getting the other time to get a crime was first discovered by authorities in south africa.

you, rob and following the announcement travelers. as you can imagine, packed the airport in cape town, south africa today just hoping to catch a flight out health experts say the new strain name the on the kron variant, as we've been talking about it spreading through the southern part of africa. now people visiting that area. >> they're scrambling to return to their home countries. >> my family live in australia and i'm going back to see them before the kuz country shuts down. i don't know when i'll be able to to leave my job behind and getting on a plane today. >> according to south african officials, the new variant is likely responsible for the recent spike in covid infections in the country's busiest province that new covid variant put fears in the global stock markets causing steep drops. it was a shortened trading day at the new york stock exchange because of the thanksgiving holiday. the dow tumbled 905 points at the end of the day, the nasdaq and s and p also lost more than 2% of their

values. investors fear the new variants may lead to lockdowns again. >> investors are reacting to this new variant in a very similar way. they did to the initial coronavirus pandemic of march 2020. they have sold off airline stocks. you not a united airlines delta airlines and american airlines are down 7, 8, 9%, respectively. also, the investors are moving into stocks that benefit during the pandemic zoom communications is up 10% today. how on the exercise company is up 3% today. today was the worst single-day drop for the dow in more than a year. travel and energy stocks are also among the biggest losers with. >> royal caribbean carnival and norwegian cruise is all down about 10% fda says an experimental pill to treat mild to moderate cases of covid-19 is effective, but more input is needed. the agency posting it analysis of

alameda and santa tale. 57 degrees in san francisco and cooling off now in petaluma 50 degrees. but they've got some changes coming our way for the weekend. we've seen the high pressure kind of weaken a little bit. that's allowing for some of these high clouds to roll through overnight tonight that ridge of high pressure is going to strengthen again. and that means it's going to move most of clouds. well to the north. again, we're going to have a beautiful weekend ahead right now. you see that offshore wind is given way to more of an on shore breeze. so now see more of that breeze kicking in also a lot of mid to high level clouds begin to move across our skies. so if you're headed out there this evening should be a nice evening. it will be dry temperatures going to be cooling off into the 40's least 9 o'clock, at least it's some of the inland valleys. still a lot of clouds going to be drifting on overhead and maybe couple of patches of fog developing late tonight. but the temperatures are going to be up. last night. we had some overnight lows in the 30's tonight. we're talking 40's outside so not as cold and by day tomorrow. what a day it is going to be mostly sunny skies temperatures up in the 60's. even some mid 70's. thank you,

>> right now. there's still a lot of people out there shopping at malls and stores all over the bay area looking for those black friday deals. but this year prices could be a little higher. analysts say this year people can expect to pay on average 5 to 17% more for toys clothing appliances, televisions. all of that compared to last year. this, of course, due to the shortages of shipping containers and truckers which have helped delay deliveries the same time inflation continues to creep up feelings among shoppers were little definitely some good deals, especially with the things i was looking at. i come in my daughter and i pretty much got >> the 32 getting so i'm pretty happy with every just. >> like there's barely any discounts and. there are more like went out shopping. well, like down expensive. not just kind of decided to do all

crushed the vehicle reporter erin myers shows us some of the damage. >> how you to the winds and definitely calmed down quite a bit today, but they were much stronger the past couple of days and cause quite a bit of damage. take a look at this sky on over here. tree landed on top of it. crews did remove that tree from the top of the vehicle was also all across the roadway. but now they still have to come out here and pick up the debris, which you can see over there. i can also show you the scene earlier. this is what it looked like. the tree on top of the sky and we're told by resident has happened here on the 17,200 block of hiawatha when the winds were much stronger a day or so ago, cruz once again out here this morning. they were able to move the tree out of the roadway quickly. but the damage already done. we spoke with the cousin of the man who owns the sky on. >> his car got, you know, crushed by the tree it was his very first car. so he was really heartbroken that she was teetering on the car because it was it just wasn't

stable yet. so i guess now is going to come by and pick up his stuff. he didn't have report it to the city and. >> and that wasn't the only tree to come down. yesterday we saw wind gusts reaching 70 plus miles per hour in some areas leading to more than 70,000 homes and businesses having their power shut off to reduce the chance of power lines, falling and sparking fires. thousands were still without power. as of this morning. today, we could still see windy conditions but not as strong as the last couple of days. but you will want to take precautions. still be careful on the roads, especially in those high profile vehicles. as for the fire danger. there is a red flag warning in place for parts of los angeles and ventura counties and the inland empire until 6 this evening with the dry windy and warm conditions if a fire starts, it can spread very quickly. fire departments have extra staffing in place and say to have an emergency plan and be ready to evacuate if asked. >> we have an update now. the red flag warning that was in effect in southern california. has ended because of the possible fire danger early. yes. so that's the good news. for more on the conditions

down there. here's lawrence. yeah, i think that's going to be not only over the next couple days. i think we're going to see maybe another week. we're going to deal with this. they didn't get the rain that we had. we had that wonderful atmospheric river roll through the bay area. so things fairly dry in southern california. they get those santa ana winds. we called the offshore flow here. the diablo winds, they're called the santa ana's in southern california come rolling over the santa monica mountain range and there you go. but now we're seeing a bit more of an on shore breeze. you see that along the coastline right now still gusty in spots. but overnight tonight, those winds are expected to subside a little bit and then actually by tomorrow afternoon maybe come out of the by late in the day. so the wind's going to switch it around a bit, giving them a break from all those gusty winds. they'll finally be able to cook the turkey dinner. some folks miss that yesterday with the power outages. but here we go. we've got a high pressure that is kind of breaking down a little bit right now. it's going to re strengthen as we head through the weekend, a weak front sliding through kind of fall apart for gorgeous sunset. but high pressure that big dome of high pressure sitting over head also

trapping a lot of the flu does right down near the surface. so you may have noticed that haze in the atmosphere around the bay area today, tomorrow you're looking at moderate amounts of a plume is building up in the north and the east and the south bay that we're looking pretty good along the coastline. high temperatures today. not bad at all running a little bit above the average for this time of year. 64 in san francisco. 64 degrees in oakland 67 a beautiful day in san jose 66 in lemore 67. also in concord and 65 degrees in santa rosa outside this evening. we're going to see a mixture stars in a few clouds. some high clouds up above. and because the clouds moving in and the moisture content up with a more of an onshore breeze. temperatures are going to be up as well. so not going to be as cold tonight for a couple of nights, a 30 degree temperatures and some of the valleys now things look like they're going to change again. high-pressure weekend a little bit. you see some of those clouds drifting over the top of that ridge. i think another cold front going head up to the 7 northwest springing them. another round of some heavy rainfall while the bay area. here you go. high pressure builds right back in.

we're talking about sunshine and above normal temperatures. they by tomorrow afternoon. again, some of these numbers are going to be even warmer than what we had today may be in the mid 70's in parts of the bay area. still some clouds going move through overnight tonight and then tomorrow morning waking up to mostly clear skies. maybe couple patches of fog. but after that, that is long gone leave in sunshine and then some fog moving in late day along the coastline. how about these numbers, though, tomorrow. what a way to start out your weekend 74 in livermore, 71 degrees in mount view about 70 degrees in mill valley. >> all right, lawrence. coming ikea is renting out an apartment and get this for just a buck a month. but the deal does come with some sacrifices will explain always a catch and it is the word of the year. actually, it's an abbreviation. we'll reveal more after the break.
