comfortable conditions bay bridge behind me looks good. golden gate bridge there on the screen looks great as well. we are seeing clear conditions across the golden gate and that's going make for an easy drive across the gate this morning. now we are seeing some dense pockets of fog, though, and where we are seeing that fog. it's not super widespread, but in those pockets it has resulted in some very low or disability. so be mindful of this as you drive to work this morning. got to be needing to slow down in a couple of pockets out there. as for current temperatures were in the 30's and 40's for most areas. a couple of 50's and alameda san francisco in 2 run. in the meantime, nevado and santa rosa are cold of some spots down in the upper 30's right now. as far as our bridges are concerned, it is definitely foggy at the bay bridge toll plaza, although that fog has lifted a little bit. that's contributing to some better visibility. you can see the gray sitting right above you 19 minutes from the maze to freeman street. that's pretty

typical back up there as we do have the metering lights on san mateo bridge, 80 to one o one. that's a 14 minute drive and things have picked up westbound still pretty light at the golden gate. 20 minutes right there and then nice clear morning as you are making that drive southbound back to you. not only budgets a police department over 678 officers. but in fact, maintain. >> those middle staffing >> this is what oakland mayor libby shaft has to say making new promises about changes to combat the violent crime oakland has seen yet today we're going to be hearing from police chief leronne armstrong about the recent uptick in those violent crimes police staffing concerns opd loss to talk about. kron. 4 has been the victim of one of them that there have been many murders there and they're trying to stop what's going on sarah stinson is in the newsroom talking about what they're doing to try to stop this problem. >> yeah. bad timing right the oakland police department

under staff. all the while fighting an increase of violent crime, almost a daily basis. pretty much on a daily basis. it's awful this morning. the oakland police chief will address staffing issues and recent homicides chief armstrong announced this press conference just hours after the city council and mayor libby schaff talked about what they plan to it. the mayor saying she was going to propose hiring more police officers in front of council this week. the city saw its 127th homicide this year on sunday right after additional tactical teams were put into place to support patrol officers responding to these violent crimes within the last week, 3 lives have been lost to violence. one of our own. there's also been 44 instances of gunfire and 35 robberies. officers have recovered nearly 1000, 100 guns within the last year. police did insist in addition to these tactical teams helping they did help

reduce crime over the holiday weekend. but that's something we need to ask more about more about these tactical. teams in today's press conference. city leaders say the increased gun violence is a public health crisis. i talked with karl chan with the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce. he cars. he and the mayor both brought up issues with the current bail policies regarding gun possession. >> the traditional risk assessment that is being used a weight heavily drug offenses. other types of felonies but not gun possessions. we have taken an unprecedented number of guns off of the streets. but clearly that is not enough so many people committing crimes. consequences. >> time what we call catch and release, which is nothing to help. the bail system based on looking as well. >> a discussion around the criminal justice system will continue with the celtics city

information is also on our website, kron 4 dot com. >> time now 7 '05, and there's a disturbing new trend in the east bay with young teenagers involved in crimes, even younger a 12 year-old and 2.13 year-olds were recently arrested for 2 separate carjackings. take a look at this map. the first happened friday night in san leandro, a pizza delivery driver was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint and police arrested a 13 year-old boy for that. then there was a carjacking that ended with a crash early sunday morning. a 13 year-old boy had a gun and is accused of taking a car in oakland leading police on a chase through antioch before the crash and it and oakley and police ended up arresting the 13 year-old and a 12 year-old one local organization believes that we have to do something to keep those young kids away from a life of crime. >> i continue to be heartbroken by by seeing this. it is it's not far removed

from any of us. what else can we do while we even have them in our presence. it's not ok, here's the key. you do some time. and that's it. what rehabilitation can happen. well, we have their attention. we have them. >> hand, believe it or not, it even gets younger last month. police arrested in a llevan year-old along with other children for a crime spree that happened in berkeley. and of course, because these are all minors. police do not release any of their names. little kids. now to seniors and the seniors are being victimized and being warned not to walk alone with jewelry outside. there have been 2 robberies so far in san ramon and many more have happened. similarly around the bay area. so they want you to be careful. 2 seniors in separate incidents. broad daylight walking alone. one is a park in the other along cinnamon ridge road and in both of these cases, the seniors are

walking they visit on and thieves drive up in a car chat with them. get out. take the jewelry and take off and nobody got hurt. but the seniors are being asked to just be cautious when you're walking outside. >> switching gears. now new this morning, mccrone variant of covid-19 continues to spread around the world. the netherlands, france, japan. they've all confirmed their first cases. and while no case of the on the kron strain has been detected here in california state health officials say that they are on alert. ashley zavala explains. >> california. health leaders say they closely monitoring the omicron variant, the new covid-19 variant first found in south africa is not yet on the list of 10 variants. actively being tracked in california with no cases detected here yet or in the united states overall. but state health officials say it's only a matter of time. california has a public private sector partnership to analyze genomic sequencing called covid net that officials say will help detect on the kron variant early in the state. meanwhile at airports across california

state officials say they're preparing to increase covid-19 testing from legal residents returning from some african countries. health leaders say they're also doubling down on covid-19 vaccine and booster shot efforts. well, the omicron variant has yet to be found in any california cases. covid-19 numbers are slightly increasing following the holiday weekend with the now 3% positivity rate statewide. the state is averaging about 4,100 new covid cases per day. the latest data showing the other variant of concern, the delta variant accounts for 99% of cases sequenced state leaders have warned of a potential winter surge that coupled with the new variant of concern prompting governor newsom's tweet while on vacation saying in part, we will continue to be guided by data and science right now. the best way we know to protect yourself is to get vaccinated and get your booster go today. don't wait. meanwhile, the california apartment public health says it's in communication with federal health officials to continue gathering information on the new variant in sacramento. ashley zavala kron 4 news.

some increased sunshine in some of our great pockets right along the bay and further inland as well as for rain or snow that still continues to be sent well to the north. this high-pressure ridges push the jet stream on up into western canada. this means that aside from the haze we're in for another crystal clear day today and looking at dry conditions through the last day of november on into the start of december tomorrow and likely to stay that way through the upcoming weekend. well into next week to you don't see a whole lot of changes here in future cast a few clouds from time to time. but really staying nice and dry through this forecast might as well enjoy it while we do have this dry and comfortable weather today is actually going to be even a bit warmer than yesterday was. you'll notice a few more 70's on the map and what we had for your monday redwood city among spots at 71 degrees campbell, you're the warm spot again today at 74 degrees in the east bay. lot of 70's as well. whether you're inland or right along the bayshore oakland in

richmond as well as concord indoor go all holding on to the upper 60's and that's the same for the north bay. at least most areas further north of the day looking at those upper 60's for your highs tomorrow and thursday. first 2 days of the new month looking nice and a lot like today is about to be. we'll be in the upper 60's through the upcoming weekend under a whole lot of sunshine as for the bay bridge this morning. you had some fog earlier on that fog has lifted a bit, but it's still kind of gray out there at the toll plaza. you have an 18 minute commute from the maze to fremont street. a bit of a back up there as you do get to the toll plaza this morning. pretty busy on the san mateo bridge, but things are moving only 14 minutes. so that's been a smooth commute so far and a beautiful one so far at the golden gate bridge. not just because skies are clear but also because there's just not a whole lot of traffic out there right now. one of our biggest slowdowns in the bay right now is that highway 4 westbound commute which can be a slow one. it's going to take you 43 minutes from antioch to concord. we had a few incidents right

along 80 as well. and that is actually slowed 80 westbound through ville a to a crawl, if not stopping you from time to time. right before you get there towards the carquinez bridge. one. oh, not a whole lot of slowdowns, but a few spots that you will at least not be traveling at the limit from san jose to 85 in menlo park. that's a 34 minute commute th s morning. and as you try to get yourselves to the bay bridge on westbound 80 from crockett to the maze. a pretty natural slowdown taking you down to 28 minutes just to make that crossing right there. back to you. if you're still asking where's my stuff. the president says he's on it. >> now despite the supply chain backlog that we've seen in this country. the president somehow, you know, either

for the fortunate. we have john keeping an eye on the fog and haze the temperatures, the sun all that today, john, there's even an upside to the haze. just as the upside to a nice sunshine has been getting out and enjoying it. the downside to it is obviously you just need the rainfall as even after are very wet october. we still need a whole lot more moisture ahead of us this winter your view outside of the golden gate bridge. nice and clear aside from that haze. we do have some fog patches this morning, especially right in the interior of the bay and then out into our inland valleys. you can see that showing up here with some lower visibility pockets that you do want to be aware of fog is having a greater impact than we've seen in a bit, actually radar shows dry skies. otherwise and current temperatures are mostly in the 40's and 50's novato. you're among our colder spots of 41 while santa rosa are lone spot on the map right now at 38 degrees. now looking outside at our bridges conditions out there are foggy in patches. you have seen improvements on the bay bridge toll plaza though, which actually started the morning a couple of hours

this case is that is cop the local attention and national attention. elizabeth theranos elizabeth holmes of theranos at one point was the darling of silicon valley. a billionaire shiva were turtlenecks after her role model steve jobs. she convinced a lot of people, including rupert murdoch, henry kissinger, the former secretary of state to invest in her company. at one point making her a billionaire now for the past 4 days. her defense team, they painted her out to be the victim of her ex-boyfriend who helped her run theranos sunny balwani claiming that he imposed his will so much honor. she wasn't truly herself and did things that maybe she could not have done as far as legally that he imposed his will. according to prosecutors to say no, she knew full well what she was doing and that's why they charged her with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, meaning getting money from investors for her

>> in the south bay and santa clara shoe store. also robbed twice in less than a week by a large group of burglars police into the store inside the santa clara town center on el camino real. they stole shoes and clothing. this was all last tuesday about one in the morning and then again sunday night at about 1130. they were hit once more. no suspects have been arrested just yet. and on the peninsula. we have police in daly city now looking for these 2 men who they say stole more than $3500 worth of merchandise from the macy's at the ceremony shopping center. this happened saturday on november 20th police say the suspects may have left scene in a white mercedes sedan with a california license plate number beginning with the number 8. if you recognize the man on your screen. if you think you know, the car contact daly city police. >> san francisco police are investigating several cases because they had a violent weekend and the city. there were 3 shootings in less than

4 hours and one of them was fatal. the shootings happened in the bayview neighborhood near the tenderloin. and in the mission district. >> and there are also 2 sideshows early sunday morning. one san francisco supervisor says crime is increasing an out of control around the city. >> definitely some of the violent activity involving guns has ticked up over the previous year. the organizers of this. i actually knew that there was a lot of attention and focus on the organized retail there's a lot of deployment in other parts of the city and they chose a very quiet commercial corridor. no arrests have been made in the shootings or the sideshows. >> has been an arrest made in the south and the day care center worker. he's in custody suspected of sexually abusing a child over several years. san jose police arrested 62 year-old julio carrasco diaz. they say that he assaulted a child between the year 2011,

north bay looking at 60's to low 70's for your highs. santa rosa and petaluma credit 70 degrees each tomorrow's highs as well as thursday's will remain very steady in the low 70's before a modest cool down this weekend. nothing dramatic just enough to take us back down into the 60's for more of the bay area and certainly no chances of rainfall just yet. without the rain. well, your commutes have been pretty easy for the most part, we have seen some fog this morning and you even saw some of the bay bridge toll plaza earlier that has since lifted its bright out there. it's just a really slow go. now. it's full force back to work after thanksgiving and you can tell right there at the toll plaza from the maze to fremont street is going to get 22 minutes. a lot of traffic heading across the san mateo bridge as well from a 80 to one o one that's an 18 minute commute and a pretty easy one across the golden gate bridge, not just because it's so sunny and beautiful, but also because there's just not a whole lot of traffic. now, what we do have on highway 4 westbound is a slowdown that is just persistent. and that's

not because of any incident. that's just your highway 4 westbound traffic. this time of morning when you have a full force commute antioch to concord. that's going to take you. 42 minutes and also ample slowdowns all across the east bay. whether you're traveling 80 6.80, to 38 the connector between 5.80, as you head over to a t or right across from dublin on over towards ashland in san lorenzo all these areas are really slow as you do, take the connector from 5.80, over 2 to 38 do expect that pretty significant slowdown. in fact, traffic is stopped right there just because there are so many people back on the roads this morning. one. oh, one northbound from san jose to menlo park also very slow. 52 minutes right there. and 85 is not going to offer you much of a better option that one is also slow down heading northbound. so i'd advise may be getting off and heading up 82 instead and also looking a

>> we're going continue to remain dry as we wrap up november today and kick off december tomorrow. in addition to the haze. we've had some spots of fog. you're not seeing that at the golden gate bridge. it's one of our clear spots right now where we are seeing some lower visibility is right along the bay shore in many areas. sfo has had some poor visibility at times as has the bay bridge toll plaza at moments to leave fog having formed out of the central valley has also impacted your visibility and then right along one. oh, one in the north bay. you've also had some lower visibility pockets now skies will remain dry for yet another day with a high pressure ridge. that is certainly no surprise that this point 40's and 50's for current temperatures. aside from santa rosa, our cool spot on this map. sitting currently at 38 degrees. now traffic this morning has been really slow. it is back to work. all across the bay area. and you can tell with your look at the roads all across the region. the bay bridge. it's a slow one. as you get from the maze to fremont street. that'
