thanks justine. so like we're kind of getting things back to normal people are getting vaccinated. kids are vaccinated. things are opening up. >> but this new variant. concerning since its has more mutations on and it could possibly be more contagious. should we be changing what we do every day going back to like washing our hands all the time. >> well, just say i think area residents are ready covid street-smart. so there's nothing new that we have to do. we just have to do this scene. things that we always have been doing. i wouldn't change anything personally and there are only 4 words that i have for the audience because get vaccinated get boosted. you know, that's the most important thing. and of course, it is a crowded indoor setting any going there a long time. wear your mask. >> are you of the opinion that being vaccinated will provide some degree of protection against omicron or or maybe a lot of protection. >> i think it's going to provide a lot of protection. look at this. a key study in some cisco, for example, you

know what, has not been widely reported is that in contact tracing they looked at all the contacts of this individual and none of them were actually part president speaking, though, the fact that they're probably not as transmissible. if you're vaccinated inside africa. at the center of crime right now. none of the people got a look round by one report at least will fully they were either not vaccine, which is 65% cases, all partially vaccinated, which was a 35%. so i think with a highly vaccinated area like the bay we're probably if we're going to see anything, it will be very mild cases. so the patient in san francisco that has this new variant was vaccinated but did not have a booster shot yet. >> what does that tell us about the effectiveness of the vaccine and also does that make boosters even more important now with the booster not made a difference in protecting someone against this new variant. well, i think it's too early to tell.

but i i think personally that abuse is great at not even getting infected in the first think of the virus as the enemy trying to get in your house is getting in the front gate. if you not do said, but he will never getting your house because he had t cells are going to kick it out of the house to the street. delta has been so dominant for so long. is it possible that omicron will overtake delta as the main strain of concern. >> does that even really matter. it probably doesn't matter in a vaccinated area, but it probably will be a dominant virus not the dominant virus. it's already becoming dominant inside africa. south africa was a delta country mark on. so i think if that follows that plea, but we really expect that it would do the same in other parts of the world. >> what we expect to see this variant also infecting children. >> yes, i mean, i i think you know, this road probably be an equal opportunity. very and just like delta was remember

before delta, we won't see a lot of kids infected of course, only 2 to 4% of them go to the hospital. in that you're of delta and then of the omicron of this with taking down to it will be just if not more transmissible. and so that we would expect a unvaccinated kids say get infected as well. >> how well are we doing at getting that 5 to 11 year-old, you know, kids age group vaccinated and and could omicron, you know, showing up, you know, delay kind of getting back to normal kids being able to take their masks off at school and the like. >> i hope not i think making really good progress in the area in particular vaccinations of 5 to 11 so does this go above or and kanye above 40 to 50% now. so i think i'm much better even than the rest of the city in the country. i think ellie is like around the 10% little bit

>> a bomb from richmond to will be walking in the rose parade celebrating the miracle of her kidney transplant. >> kron 4 s charles clifford was at her send-off ceremony today. >> well, in the coronavirus pandemic started, there was a temporary moratorium on organ transplants. since then, the situation has improved. but now as people may be put off going to the doctor for a couple of years are starting to go in and get checked up. more and more people are finding that they have medical issues, some of which could require a transplant earlier this year. hilda martinez of richmond discovered during a routine checkup that she needed to have a kidney transplant. she was able to find a donor in august. she received a new kidney. she's doing very well on wednesday. oversee pmc sutter health on van ness here in san francisco. they announced that

display of lights with set up and a reading of names was present. >> in the north bay now workers at a nonprofit have been a shirt trying to replace items that were stolen by thieves. a storage room at the county fairgrounds was recently broken into the thieves stole thousands of diapers and other hygiene products that belong to this nonprofit called food is free they were meant for families in need this holiday season. a spokesperson for the nonprofit says this is a big loss. >> people make choices. they make choices between i'm buying food or buying diapers. and if they don't have diapers, then the kids can't go to day care. they can't go to preschool. they have to have sanitary supplies to be able to go. and so this impacts the family's ability to go to work, which impacts are really to make more money to be able to support themselves. food is free. says the best way people can help them is on a tory monetary donations. we do have more information. how you can do

that. >> on our website. kron 4 dot com. mountain view police have arrested the man who they say broke into a couple's home this morning. this is a picture of officers taking that person into custody. the incident was first reported around 10 o'clock this morning on front lane. police say the couple was inside the house when someone broke in the couple, then locked themselves inside their bedroom and called police officers safely evacuated. the couple police posted this picture on twitter that shows the couple climbing down from a ladder from their apartment. >> skiers and snowboarders will have to wait a few more weeks to hit a lot of a popular resort in tahoe due to this unseasonably warm weather resorts are pushing back their opening-day heavenly and northstar were set to open this saturday. but. that's been delayed. reno was just one degree shy of breaking a record monday down in southern california. big bear mountain resort and snow summit are set to open tomorrow.

that ridge. i'm a big in the week in as we get toward the latter part of the weekend. a room for some nice weather again. but starting to see a change in weather pattern. then you start look at the minute in the forecast that's really going to really what's makes up for the weather here as forecast goes ahead right now, the offshore winds continuing. but as we see in the summer months. sometimes you get a heat wave come through all of a sudden you start to see a suddenly surge of fog. and guess what, we're seeing some of that fog a little for the south making its way up the coastline. i think we're going to see some of that fog form along the coast overnight tonight. it's tomorrow morning along the 7, a taylor county coast that's going help cool down the temperatures now offshore winds continuing but not as strong as last night. and you start to see the arrows here. little suddenly push begins to develop along the coastline as we head through the morning tomorrow. so, yeah, i think changes in the works. these temperatures are going to be cooling down around the bay area starting tomorrow. they're still going to be warm. but the numbers are going to come off a few degrees. high pressure still in control. all those storms continuing to move. well to the north tomorrow we've got another nice warm day. you see
