to add a new 5 person police team dedicated to patrolling the downtown walnut creek area. the move is a response to the recent smash-and-grab robbery at the nordstrom store there on broadway plaza and the city of san jose is installing license plate, readers to also try to curb smash-and-grab robberies. the city council in san jose agreed tuesday to spend $250,000 in federal re relief funds to lease new license plate, reading cameras. >> president biden is making yet another push for americans to get their covid boosters today he laid out his administration's response plan to the new omicron covid variant now detected in at least 5 states across the nation, including right here in the bay area. and now also a case in los angeles. the president's plan also includes several other steps. those steps increased booster outreach opening new family vaccination clinics. increasing covid surge response teams making at home. covid tests more readily available and sharing more vaccine doses with the world.

one thing his plan does not include a mandate. >> the plan i'm announcing today's a plan. our scientists and covid teams have recommended and while my existing federal vaccination requirements are being reviewed by the courts. this plan does not expand or add to those mandates. a plan that all americans hopefully can rally around and it should be and should get bipartisan support in my humble opinion should unite us not continue to separate us. >> doctors are saying the president's winter covid plan goes a long way to keeping the nation safe for kron four's. dan kerman is live in san francisco tonight with their reaction. he joins us now. dan. >> that's right. you know, it's all about transmission at this point. we don't know about omicron and what the transmission is between person to person of the tire looks to be higher. but that's not definite yet. still what some of the steps do is reduce the chance of transmission from person to person.

with the latest vaccine information. it's all at kron. 4 dot com. >> to the east bay now where the oakland city council president has introduced a plan to address police staffing issues there. the oakland police department currently has fewer than 700 officers. the goal now is to fill at least 60 police officer positions as soon as possible. the program would include partnering with an outside employment agency and offering cash for experience officers and oakland residents who joined the department. >> academies take long time to produce results. a traditional police today. we didn't get new officers on the ground until 2023 and open facing highest some slightly in almost a decade. we need creative approaches to this crisis and we need to have out. >> also the oakland police department would like to talk to a person believed to have cell phone video in connection to the killing kron 4 security

its closest point called the perigee to the earth. and you've got that all lined up with the sun and all of a sudden you get the gravitational pull that lifts up the water and here we go. the king tides for tomorrow coming just after 9 o'clock in the morning. that is almost going to be a 7 foot tide. so if you know some of those spots that you park your car may some of those off ramps. watch out for some flooding in those areas. you might even see a little flooding along the embarcadero in the san francisco tomorrow morning as some of that water begins to pile up outside. but after that looks like that will return again. the following day on saturday. but today the temperatures they were the big story. they took a hit from what we had all that record breaking heat. well, we started to cool things down san francisco still squeezed out 67 very pleasant day. there. 64 in oakland, 70 degrees still in san jose 66 in lemore 68 in concord and 68 degrees in santa rosa. but the fog and then on shore, breeze really cool in the temperatures down. many of the coastal sections, bring those numbers back into the 50's. and that's what we're going to

out the offices in hallways of the capital's annex. this building gets 2 million people year. assemblyman ken cooley gave us a tour of the work being done. the nx is set to be demolished to make way for a new upgraded space for the last 7 decades. the annexes house executive and legislative offices entrances and has been a main artery of the state capitol. it is monumental to figure out how do you. >> keep the legislature function as institution. well, you tackle deficiencies in this building that were long ago identified shorts neighbor. lawmakers approved the project in 2018 that's expected to cost taxpayers about 1.2 billion dollars. >> legislators defending the demolition noting the current annex has spent limited access for the disabled and the lack of safety measures like exits and sprinklers. the new space will include about 100 million dollars worth of security upgrades. >> it will be a more secure. our modern capital. it will allow the legislature in a term of american people. functional. i bring in all the

>> today marks 5 years since the ghost ship warehouse fire claimed 36 lives in oakland. the flames erupted during an illegally held music event. many attending that dance party got trapped and died inside the inferno. kron four's. theresa stasi was following the story as we look back and honor those who lost their lives. >> some are going to be at the goes ship to remember others find it. so this too. and hard to go there. but remembering them and their own private way today. >> that is attorney mary alexander. she represented more than a dozen of the victims families following that horrific fire at an oakland warehouse 5 years ago 36 people lost their lives in the early morning hours trapped as flames grew in intensity. here is a video collage of the victims. they were musicians, artists and friends of the band playing
