traveling into the city. finally friday light in the 9th hour here. a little under 10 minutes. we had an earlier accident that slowed us down. heading across towards the peninsula. you can make that commute a little under 14. and as you can see, visibility is low pretty gray along. there. richmond center fell as you're heading out of richmond, a little under 9 and in the south bay, no major delays. a little under 33 minutes heading from 85 to menlo park darya. james, back to you. all right. thanks a lot. right now. >> so to some breaking news this morning out of michigan. prosecutors have just announced that they have charged the parents of the accused school gunman, ethan crumbley. his parents now be charged with 4 counts of involuntary manslaughter. each. police say crumbley shot and killed 4 students at his high school earlier this week. so the parents now facing some responsibility through these charges. his father, the gunman's father. purchase. that gun just days before the shooting even probably has been charged as an adult with murder and terrorism. >> 9. other big story this morning as president biden making another push to get americans their covid vaccines and booster shots because of the new. >> omicron variant. yeah. in fact, he laid out his administration's plan to do that. it's been detected as we know about 5 states so far across the country. the first case as you know by now was reported right here in the bay area in san francisco. let's take a look at the president's plan. there are several steps involved. >> including increasing booster outreach. opening new family vaccination clinics. increasing covid response teams and also making at home covid tests more readily available. and on top of that to he's also aiming to make the vaccine more available to the world at large. >> one thing his plan does not include. however, are more vaccine mandates. >> the plan. i'm announcing today's a plan. onr scientists and covid teams have recommended and while my existing federal vaccination requirements are being reviewed by the courts. this

plan does not expand or add to those mandates. a plan that all americans hopefully can rally around and it should be and should get bipartisan support in my humble opinion should unite us not continue to separate us. >> that just not make a vaccine mandates doesn't mean there are not the new mandate of any kind because there are there are new tougher restrictions on international travel yeah, those entering the country. >> as part of an effort to slow down the spread of the coronavirus and the new omicron variant, of course, airports are big focus sfo. one of them. and in addition to the new covid testing policy for a national travel. the president is also announcing that the mask mandate at airports and on public transportation. that's going to be extended to yell to what mid-march mid march and there are many reasons for this. >> i think getting it. this before playing in is a good idea. but 24 it's going to be a bit tight but not all countries. i quit so that

>> well, you can see the parking lot right behind me in a perfect world, they would be filled with cars. i mean, the campus is massive, but that's not going to happen for the immediate future because they're still working from home. they were set to return in a hybrid position. but still more cars and what you're seeing now, which is none. they were supposed to head back january 10th. but because of this latest variant, they're pushing that back and they can blame another variant for starting this whole process. and here's why. well, back in august they were set to return in september. but then the delta variant hit and they said no, we cannot return in september continue working at home be productive. but you can work from home until january 10th. well, now the world it's taken over by this new variant, which is, you know, more perplexing 50 mutations possibly. that they're saying don't come back. january. 10th it so bad genes area. they

have not given a new date. i mean, the first time they said january 10th the second time. this time they haven't done it yet. so they say it's a very fluid situation. the buildings are open about 90% of them are open in the united states for google. they're encouraging people to go inside reintroduce yourself to your co-workers.ebut as far as you are forced to come in here at least 3 times a day. that's not going to happen. work from home things are fluid, of course, to the point where we also have offices and other countries and they're saying for those offices. we will look at it on what pertains to you in your particular area. but in the u.s. not going to happen. continue eating cereal and then having gem us and not being even if you're not really paying attention to your calls. i'm being flippant. but you know, the idea that working from home know it's funny. you mention the syria will because the thing i would miss about if i worked at google about going to google is the free food.

still protected from the virus. even if you don't have the booster just yet rather than having fomo about people getting. >> and running for really even those 2 doses, you're really, really well and kind beast. i care the most about which is making you get really sick enough to go to the hospital and potentially die. >> yeah, in fact, they say that of the people who have tested positive for the omicron variant. that were fully vaccinated. but hadn't had their booster yet. well, they only experienced mild symptoms. so big fully-vaccinated goes a long way and a bay area. mom is urging pregnant women to get vaccinated after she didn't. >> and she ended up severely ill hospitalized with covid. now, right now she and her baby are healthy. as you can see them here together as a family. they're all recovered now. but at the time that she was pregnant. sarah is her name. she decided not to get the covid shot and then regretted it because she came down with covid and was hospitalized and her baby nio

experienced officers to join the force as comes as oakland is taking what steps it can to address the violence that we've seen going up and up in the city. the proposal offera a $50,000 signing bonus to fill 60 vacant police officer positions. so the city in order to get this bonus. they want to hire seasoned quality officers that have already gone through police training. so this is not for new trainees. the proposal aims to cut down on 911. response times and increase police presence and also to improve the cease-fire program. >> we are in the public i'm seeing right now. it feels like every day we experience a new senseless tragedy. and at the same time are shrinking police force as it have the resources to adequately serve our community officers are already experience and ready to hit the streets as an active patrol officer. >> the officers who take up the offer would have to stay with the oakland police department for at least 5 years. otherwise they'll have

across the bay. it's about time this high-pressure bridge ridge broke apart. and that's exactly what we have in this forecast is a weakening high-pressure influence and that means next week. finally an opportunity of at least a system to pass across the area monday night into tuesday morning, maybe a sprinkle or 2. that's really all we're going to get later on in the week. the sierra nevada sees a better chance of some rain and snow mix towards thursday and friday. the bay area, nothing more than a couple of sprinkles here, too. it really is until the week after next that i'm anticipating something sizable enough to push through that could result in some good rainfall for the bay area. this is your outlook for next week and it's not looking too promising as i told you, just expect maybe a sprinkle or 2 monday night into tuesday, maybe an isolated shower or 2 into thursday and friday. we'll have to wait until a few days later, hopefully some more significant rainfall to finally make its way in 50's 60's for san francisco near the coastline. temperatures along the bay shore mostly in the 60's burlingame at 64

you're traveling duval ale hercules benicia and in antioch darya james, back to you. thank you. right. so happening tomorrow in the south bay. a toy drive will be getting under way for families in need. this holiday season. it is put together by thr santa clara county fire department. and this morning. >> we're talking about it to santa clara county fire captain justin stockman. good morning. good morning. great to be with both of you. all to be a for the kids younger than you. how many joys you hope to collect. >> we typically collect the toy drives. i've been involved in the past and absolutely incredible to see that outpouring of support from the community. so. >> and every year you guys do this every year and what do you prefer deeper people to bring the toys. should they be wrapped like what? what what? what's what's what are the guidelines. >> so we're really asking for new unwrapped you know, certainly because of covid, but because of other

considerations we didn't need them to be. do we need that to be unwrapped and like toys. i mean, a diverse array items. i mean, books stuffed animal sports equipment, gift you know, we really try to set this up to be very, very easy for the community. we're doing it 2 days. we're doing it saturday. a december 4th and sunday december 5th. we've got 3 separate locations here in the south bay. one, campbell want 13. oh, and one in los altos hills. look at the open from 10:00am to 04:00pm and again, we're trying to make as easy as possible. these are drive through contact. this toy drives. so all people have to do is show up. we're happy to help unload their vehicle. i'm happy. you know, we're we're just happy meet with the community a little bit. it's been it's been a hard 2 years for us to and this is one of the few outlets we still have find that opportunity for kindness in connection with in the community the continued pandemic. well, i've still seeing you guys in your big group shopping at safeway. so

i know haha. i love how they'll shop in a group that, you know, if we did, if we give you money, will you go out as a group and by the choice to are now. >> we won't accept money, but we will accept gift okay. and. >> to be clear, we we partner with to nonprofits here in santa clara county. we partner with campbell to a program and hopes for a mountain so we'll definitely take those gift cards, though, go direct to those charities. and i just want to point out that you know. your generosity for this toy drive really goes a very long way. i mean, when else can you almost guarantee that a 100% of your donation is going to people in need. will. we collect toys. they're just going to kids that need how do you get up there. do you take the truck and in the truck or how do you get them to the kids. >> well, so again, we we partner with charities for distribution to make sure that they're getting to the most in need. so we do the collection in the mid well, what about it with our duties or do do at least to the neighborhood. drive kuz. >> in my neighborhood. they do santa drive with the trucks.

camila barco in the newsroom to explain all of this camila. >> good morning, guys. yeah. the state attorney general is expected to talk about one of the smash and grabs. he'll be in san mateo county today and he's going to give new information on a major organized retail theft case. now a fun happening consistently and less than 24 hours ago, officers responded to another smash-and-grab. now, this time thieves got away with several pieces of happened at the eastridge mall just before 03:00pm yesterday for people wearing masks rushed inside the quick service in jewelry design store and they began to smash the display cases with hammers. the thieves who ran away with the stolen jewelry before police arrived. but in valais how another group of crooks didn't leave with anything. take a look at this surveillance cameras caught the people in the act. several thieves broke into this cannabis dispensary it's the u.s. bloom incorporated. you can see them trying to break

the windows. but the didn't make it past the lobbies. they tried. >> taking down the doors. but the left handed before police got there. how the company it's offering $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. >> last month. the san mateo district attorney joined forces with other bay area. prosecutors. and that is to combat the recent increase in smash and grabs today the da, the san mateo sheriff's office and the state attorney general. we'll be announcing new information. no major retail. theft case. now that's happening at one this afternoon. you can stay with us online and on air as we get more information. back to you guys. >> all right. thank you very much. camila. >> and as you know, there are so many smash-and-grabs and retail says that in san francisco, you're going to notice a police presence in union square. maybe more than you seen before. and, you know, for all form is also stores doing different things.

some stores and high-end stores have done this for a while like the best year. but you'll see more and more of a lock the doors and they say you have to point to come in or they limit the number of customers and is not of covid. it's because of criminals that they're doing that and some of the more expensive high-end department stores are using their own money to purchase their own extra security. >> during this unprecedented time to beef up our security and provide a safe place for our customers and our employees. it is a cost that is not sustainable. long term for our business or for any business. >> so, you know, they're saying that they're doing it now because what else can they do. they're waiting, though, from work a longer term, better solution to this, which they say is more policing. and san francisco police are making progress. they've arrested 5 people as part of a car break in an armed robbery. or just a number of them that may or may not be connected. one suspect was 15 years old.

and like i said, there were 5 and they do think that there are about a half a dozen car burglaries in the city that these people are responsible for 2 people were found casing vehicles in the area. fulton and lyon streets. they were arrested and then 3 others were arrested after they were actually seen breaking into cars in a parking lot near bay in kearny streets and you can see the police found weapons too. ghost guns were recovered. the 5 suspects now face multiple felony charges. >> and here's another example of the crime were talking about new video of another smash-and-grab in san francisco's chinatown neighborhood. this is actually footage shot by one of our viewers and shows a person you can see there shining a light into that blue car. many smashes out the back window and pulls out several items. and that's when he jumps into the waiting getaway car here off to the side. so at this point we know this was a grant washington street. but police don't know much more than that. not even sure exactly what was stolen just yet. but san francisco police. they haven't officially commented on this. but they sure would

like information. maybe you recognize the vehicle. the person involved, give them a call if you have anything that would help with that investigation in the east bay was the opposite story a woman is frustrated by the lack of help from the police after she was a victim of a smash-and-grab robbery in oakland. this is actually cell phone video showing the crime last month's right near lake merritt. the woman says she tried to file a police report even provide this even provided this video that was shot by a witness. but she says her efforts have gone nowhere. she hasn't heard back from them and she's worried that these thieves are going to continue breaking into more cars or maybe even commit more serious crimes. >> it's kind of scary to see. they don't even respond, especially when you have a video clip. >> and that they have some kind of evidence to go after that. >> you know, maybe they will find another crime that happened by these people. when they just brush that under the carpet and not caring. this is not going to give me any sense of security honestly to go in that any more.

>> so kron 4 reached out to oakland police about this case so far. we haven't heard back. it's unclear if possible. staffing shortages with opd is leading to the backup for the slowdown in solving some of these nonviolent property crimes. we'll stay on the story. >> new this morning. the fatal police shooting of sean monterrosa in vallejo is deemed not reasonable. according to a new independent report released by the police department in june of 2020. monterrosa was fatally shot by an officer responding to a report of looting at walgreens monterrosa did not have a gun. he did have a hammer when he was shot by the independent investigation found that the officer's decision to use deadly force in this case was not object objectively reasonable. the report found the officer used poor tactics to de-escalate the situation. and now that officer may face disciplinary action for violating the vallejo police department's policies.

your view at san jose right now the very great conditions overhead can't miss it. you are starting to have improved visibility in the south bay inland, east bay as well as the north bay. but the skies are certainly still grade. you can see those pockets out there that are definitely that way. once you head above this inversion. that's where all the sunshine is high pressure is creating a cap right across the bay. so it's actually cooler at lower elevations. we're reaching dew point and that fog is forming. once that burns off. we are going to be seeing hazy conditions into the afternoon for the same inland spots. now high pressure is going to loosen its grip on us. but it's going to take a minute and it's a gradual change of pace monday night into tuesday morning. a couple sprinkles are possible. nothing more than a sprinkle or 2 late next week thursday into friday could see a couple more areas of light rainfall mostly concentrated up into the sierra nevada, though, and some snow up in those higher elevations of the sierra. this is a nice change of pace that actually sets us up for a greater chance of rainfall. not next week. but the week

after is so keep your fingers crossed that as we work our way through that system does not lose its team as for next week, we're not really tapping into a whole lot here. you can see maybe a trace of rainfall. a couple of pockets of light showers next week is just a week of change out of the dry and hot weather into a cooler and less steady pattern and a little more unsettled, 50's and 60's for your highs near the coast. pretty solid 60's elsewhere. no 70's left in this forecast. san carlos at 66 the closest to 70's. campbell at 68 degrees east bay temperatures, mid 60's with fremont at 65 oakland at 62 north bay temperatures anywhere from the low 60's to mid 60's until you get to the coast where you'll find some 50's tomorrow's highs a little cooler than today's another foggy morning tomorrow followed by some hazy sunshine sunday will be the warmest of the weekend, but no 70's. still, we get even cooler next week with those isolated chances of sprinkles reyna.
