justine waldman. health experts are predicting there will be more omicron cases in the bay area in the coming days and weeks. >> with several cases just detected in alameda county. >> alameda county health leaders say that 5 cases of the omicron variant have now been confirmed there. they say the patients attended a wedding in wisconsin last weekend. one of them traveled internationally before that wedding. all the individuals have mild symptoms and are fully vaccinated. most of them have already received their booster shots. so far no one has been hospitalized. but as justine said, experts believe that more cases of the omicron variant will pop up in the days and weeks to come. but there is some good news. experts say that this version of the variant does not appear to be as strong as the delta variant. >> as a variance. so far it seems to be. we're send out potentially milder and then number 2, given the high vaccination rate in the bay area. it will keep people from
going to the hospital in general. >> so doctor peter chin hong there believes that the vaccines are a protective layer to this new variant as omicron cases rise, state leaders and health experts. we're asking people not to panic and just to get the covid vaccine and a booster shot as soon as possible. now to the north bay where a family reportedly sent their child who tested positive for covid to a marine county school for 7 days last month, district officials are saying this happen and you'll come and elementary and it has seen 8 cases. 3 suspected school based transmissions about 75 students had to quarantine because of this family's actions and because of that tonight, we've now learned that the parents of this child could be facing some charges. >> crawford's amid harry spent the day talking the school leaders about how they were able to handle this situation. i'm sure. >> a lot of folks have to be upset because if a child tests positive, you're now endangering other kids, other students, other teachers as
well. clear. were very clear that that's an emphasis that community thought they made the rules. they say this is a tough situation. >> because they're telling us the parent knew the child could spread the disease to others before they sent them to school. but the president of the board of trustees tells me she feels good about how they handle that. they are prepared for potential exposure and how to respond to it. >> and now it's a breach of trust in other ways like tite >> open community heal cummins elementary school in corte. madera is dealing with a covid outbreak. the superintendent sent out an update saying just before the thanksgiving holiday, there were 8 cases and 3 suspected school based transmissions. he says it started with one family that knowingly sent a student tested positive to school and their sibling for 7 days. i thought perhaps this could be a family where there were language barriers are cultural barriers and they may not understood. >> our communication.
>> and that was not in fact, the case. so it was just an integration egregious and blatant disregard for other people. president of larkspur corte madera school district board of trustees. jill sellers says 75 other students had to quarantine because of close contact with thanksgiving break was could have been times better. she says no additional cases have been reported since the quarantine. she says as a public school district, there's no way to punish the parents for their decision. >> and they will not suspend the students. we do not believe in keeping them out of the classroom and away from from because their parents did something wrong. but sellers says the county could take action it is my understanding that there are other entities within the county that may be taking corrective action against this family. the parents could face misdemeanor charges for violating rain county's health order. it requires people who test positive to isolate for at least 10 days. the student did test positive at a medical facility. it was reported to the county and it got back to
the school delays could be testing at prom and getting positive results in and still choosing to make these choices sellers hopes other families will learn from this situation. she's also grateful there wasn't greater spread. she says the schools are following all moraine county public health requirements just shows that are in school. protocols around masking and hand washing and and etcetera are really kind of paying off. >> the district is asking parents to keep their kids home if they're sick, sellers tells me they do have a slightly higher absence rate than previous years, but they would rather play it safe. jonathan justine. amanda with so many students in quarantine and more absences. how is the district working on to make sure kids don't fall behind it. >> she tells me many students have been quarantining have been absence. like i said, the absence or higher than before. they're keeping a zoom classroom available as their zooming into the actual classroom. it's not as interactive as it was over

remove abandon transmission lines from the facilities in that area. the fire charred 77,000 acres destroyed to 374 structures and injured 4 people according to the california public utilities commission. the cost will not be passed on to customers. genie in a statement says it accepts the findings and is now ready to move forward with compensating victims while also improving safety now to an update that we first told you about tonight kron 4 news at 8 o'clock. we're hearing from sfpd tonight after a san francisco restaurant denied service to to sfpd officers yesterday. it happened at hilda and just the on union street. in a statement on instagram. the restaurant said the officers were armed and in uniform when they were set. but staff members at that restaurant felt uncomfortable with their presence and their multiple weapons. the restaurant says that the staff politely asked the officers to leave shortly after they were seated. it goes on to say that quote, we respect the san
francisco police department and are grateful for the work that they do. we welcome them into the restaurant when they are off duty out of uniform and without their weapons. meanwhile, not too long ago, san francisco police chief bill scott responded to that incident on twitter saying in part, quote, the san francisco police department stands for with respect even when it means respecting wishes that our officers and i find discouraging and personally disappointing the chief also went on to add that i believe the vast majority of san franciscans welcome their police officers who deserve to know that they are appreciated for the difficult job. we asked them to do in their uniforms to keep our neighborhoods and businesses safe. >> we go now to the north bay were in santa rosa 2 people are arrested. 10 cars towed after a series of sideshows from last weekend. police are saying people from across the bay area and the sacramento area came to the city to participate in the sideshow. officers responded to reports of reckless driving fights and
shootings. there are no reports of any injuries, but law enforcement and people in the area are saying they're concerned about the ongoing issue of sideshows and sacramento. police are trying to crack down on side shows as well. police broke up a massive sideshow in the capitol last night. one event organizer was arrested. police say there were active warrants out for the organizer related to previous sideshows in total 14 cars were told 20 misdemeanor citations were issued along with 15 infraction citations. >> 5 people have been arrested in connection to a massive retail theft ring that targeted stores all across the bay area. california attorney general rob bonta announced those arrest on friday. officials say that ring stole more than 8 million dollars in items in just the past few months. the san mateo county sheriff's office says that the ring consist of criminals buying and distributing stolen merchandise and electronics. which of the recent
high-profile robberies that they could be connected to. it's still unknown tonight. meanwhile, a man wanted for a smash-and-grab theft of a san bruno target store last month has been arrested. police say the man stole more than a $1000 in items from the location at the shops of 10, a friend shopping center. police so far have not released his name but say that he is a 43 year-old man from oakland police say they were able to track him down at the san bruno bart station officers say when they tried to arrest him. he even tried jumping in front of an oncoming bart train. the man now behind bars facing a number of charges. >> heightened security now its stores in downtown walnut creek will be the new norm during the holiday shopping season. the city council voted to create a downtown police patrol be earlier this week. the move in response to the growing number of mass retail thefts kron 4 sleep to call spoke with families who where they're shopping today among this increased police presence at broadway plaza.
>> private security guards more so than uniformed police officers visibly president monitoring broadway plaza in downtown walnut creek. the result of rapid growth. reaching a tipping 0, 2 weeks ago at the outdoor mall where 90 people looted the nordstrom store stealing $125,000 worth of stuff. i was nervous. i think after seeing what happened. but coming here. we felt pretty safe and feels like it never happened. this family opted for in-person shopping rather than making their purchases online was nice. having that middle street blocked off the main road closed to traffic to deter thieves and to make shoppers feel comfortable visiting downtown. i was so sad to hear about what happened and what has been happening around earlier this week. the city council passed a resolution approving the hiring of 5 additional police officers who will make up a new downtown patrol beat the contra costa county office of the sheriff says it will also provide patrol assistance

>> new numbers from the department of labor shows that the u.s. unemployment rate dropping to its lowest level since before the pandemic began. it's now at 4.2%, the recent report also says 210,000 jobs were added to the american economy in november. and while significant that's far less than the more than. >> half a million jobs economists had forecasted for the month. president joe biden is painting an optimistic picture about the economy after this new jobs report. but republican house leader kevin mccarthy saying the white house is downplaying economic concerns caused by inflation and supply chain problems. >> i'm sure the white house will try to spin it one way, but they're supposed to be 550,000 jobs, especially during a seasonal hiring period, much less than that.
>> well, the american economy is still weak and by inflation labor shortages and the covid-19 pandemic. it is still expected to expand in the final quarter of 2021 with job growth remaining solid in areas like transportation and warehouses. speaking of supply chain issues. those backlogs now starting to have a big impact on pharmacies. there are new reports that drug stores are now running out of important prescription medicines. the fda says right now there are about 111 drugs on back order. those include heart medications, antibiotics in cancer, drugs on its website. the agency says it is monitoring the entire supply chain to try to both reduce the impact of shortages and to prevent them all together. the fda says there are a number of reasons why drug shortages do occur. they include manufacturing and quality problems delays and discontinuation ys. >> according to a new study out of the u k daily disposable masks could contain
toxins which end up dumped into the environment. the scientists are saying significant amounts of toxins such as lead and copper been found in the masks. scientists tested 7 different brands in water which models environments a similar to trash cans or litter and said nearly exposing the mask to water could release hidden toxins and oceans asia estimate believes one and a half billion entered our oceans in 2020. the study was published in the journal water research. now time to talk about our weather forecast as we take a live look outside here in san francisco. quite how or no fog or clouds. it's very chilly out there tonight. no marine layer. it is not. but we are tracking of a wide range of changes on the way as we. >> roll into sunday and start a new work week kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez here tonight. look at what you can expect in when you may need to crank up the heater next week. yeah.
because we're going to see possible frost forming jonathan in just 18 friday morning into saturday morning of this upcoming week. >> thanks to a storm that's going to bring us some measurable rain on thursday. but from now until then, we do have king tides of the highest high tides and the lowest low tides of the season arriving right now in the bay area well under way until 3 o'clock sunday afternoon high tide times on sunday will be shortly before 9 o'clock in the morning where we could see high tides as high as nearly 7 feet with a low tide sunday afternoon at around 4 o'clock. but we're going to see this coastal flood advisory around the bay area shoreline expiring by 3 o'clock sunday afternoon just because that low tide going to start and really impact the bay area coastline by around 4.15 in the afternoon. so here's a live look right now at coit tower and we're seeing temperatures out there. widespread low to mid 50's. 47 degrees, though, for san carlos in the mid 40's for
those of you palo alto. an antioch 49 degrees. so make sure to bundle up there. futurecast for going to show an increase in that high cloud cover and dense low clouds and fog specifically as you start out your sunday morning drive at 7 o'clock visibility, dangerous driving weather around the bay area shoreline at or near 0. even extending into napa livermore and san jose away from the coastline as well. so we are going to notice better lifting and clearing by around mid morning on sunday and a nice warm up for your sunday afternoon. we're away from the san francisco peninsula coastline. we could be 5 to 10 degrees above average in 60's and 70's for the 2nd half of your weekend. but we are tracking some changes with more seasonal wet weather arriving by monday night into tuesday, drizzle about a 10th of an inch of rain or less. but we could see some measurable rain early thursday morning into thursday afternoon. that's going to bring us about a quarter of an inch of rain or
less and also snow showers to the sierra as well as rain showers. about half an inch of rain or less there. but overnight lows tonight. we're going to dip into the mid to upper 40's those of you in santa rosa bundle up chillier 38 degrees for your overnight lows. but high temperatures tomorrow cranking up that he mild weather even by december 5th standards. we should be in the upper 50's to low 60's instead tracking low 70's for santa rosa. so easily more than 10 degrees above average there with nevado at 71 degrees. but half moon bay in downtown san francisco. very seasonal outlook. upper 50's to low 60's and taking a look ahead at your next 7 day forecast. look at how we dip to below average temperatures thursday into friday because cooler drier air mass will be in place and overnight lows. widespread 30's and 40's were frost may actually form as well. snow elevations with thursday storm could actually
fall to as low as 3,000 feet, far local hills and mountains. so certainly going to look like a winter wonderland. but obviously no snow in the valleys. so. >> it is going to be a very cold snap making its way into the bay area. that's addressed jim. yeah, but we need it. i mean, it's winter. after all starting. but the winter solstice 20 the 21st of december. yeah. and now it's like we're tracking 60's and 70's tomorrow. so enjoy the warm weather while it lasts thanks, guys. >> happening tonight, a stretch of interstate 80 in fairfield is going to close for 10 hours in both directions as part of a massive road construction project that happening near the interstate 80 highway 12 and interstate 6.80. interchange. that starts at 00:00pm tonight and crews are going to be demolishing an old connector bridge from highway 12 that runs to the east lanes of 80's. so if you're headed east, traffic is going to be diverted at red top road. if you're headed west will be detoured on to interstate 6.80. the lanes. the will. if

francisco will be participating in what's called the community wellness and crisis response pilot project aimed to help bring additional mental health resources to law enforcement. >> since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic. we've seen a dramatic rise in the number of 911. calls related to mental health and people in mental crisis here talk things we >> its residents were interested in making sure that we did. and that's probably could supporting mental health crisis for really trying to figure out is how we can connect you. with a mental health clinician. at the same time seeing what services you need in the long run. >> san mateo county's behavioral health and recovery services is working with local nonprofits star vista to train and supervise clinicians who will be stationed with each city's police department. there may be a person. >> that officers have dealt with multiple times that are,
you know, experiencing a mental health issues. now, what's happening is now we have a clinician that could actually work with them. go on. if there are additional calls, the 4 participating cities and the county will contribute approximately 1.5 million dollars for this initiative. >> by adding a qualified mental health professional. however, we believe we can provide. >> a better service for our residents as well as potentially de-escalate any conflict which may arise by having a uniformed police officer responding. >> this approach will help us make sure that we can try to have for the people who are involved in the call and also try it people into assistance help address the underlying issues. >> this will be a 2 year pilot program and all the data will be independently evaluated at stanford university and from
their county leaders will assess if this program will be continued and expanded in the newsroom. gayle ong kron 4 news. >> san jose. police say they're now investigating the death of a man found in the house last week as a homicide. officers say they found the man's body inside of a home on almaden expressway, back on november 27th the santa clara county coroner's office ruled the death a homicide. the cause of death is still pending. police say right now they have no suspects in the case and are still trying to piece together a motive. the death is now san jose's 31st homicide of 2021 also in the north bay santa rosa, police arrested an 18 year-old high school student after investigators say he brought a gun onto campus yesterday. it happened at montgomery high school officers say they responded to the campus after rumors started swirling that a student brought a gun to campus officers searched that student's backpack say they found the gun right now there's no word on if the gun was loaded. investigators say after talking with other
students, they say they don't believe he was planning to use the gun that student, though, has been arrested on charges of having a concealed weapon and bring a weapon on school grounds and in an unrelated incident a 14 year-old student was arrested at the private north valley school after police say he made threats about bombing. the school. investigators say the student had made threats to other students about mailing a bomb to the school. investigators arrested that student for charges of criminal threats. >> the parents of the suspected school shooter in oxford, michigan are behind bars tonight after an hour's long manhunt. a judge that bond and a half a million dollars each for james and jennifer crumbley police consider them fugitives after they failed to show up in court on friday. they are charged in connection with the shooting allegedly carried out by their 15 year-old son reporter kelsey kurtz teen has the latest. >> these 2 individuals. could have stopped it and they have
every if he was dangerous and they gave him a and they didn't secure it and they allowed free access to it. >> and today's arraignment, the prosecuting attorney, karen mcdonald saying the parents are absolutely to blame for their son and shooting and killing 4 students and injuring 7 others. arguing that mister and missus crumbly bought the gun as a gift for ethan went to the shooting range with him and showed off the gun on social media. but crumbley's attorneys countering that gun was actually locked. so when the prosecution is stating that this child had free access to a gun. >> that is just absolutely not true. say mcdonald this fall to find the story and making emotional decisions for office have been cherry picked to further her narrative of making an example of mister enos is crumbly end today when asking the oakland county sheriff's office if oxford high school could see charges if it was. >> concerning to the teacher in the classroom enough. ultimately the call and

snow showers starting thursday afternoon even into thursday night, we could see about half an inch of or less of rain and snow for this year. so finally seeing that pattern change this upcoming week tomorrow, though, is going to be another mild day in the forecast. a lot of sunshine mid-fifties with mostly sunny skies. but then we're going to see that increase in cloud cover on monday. cooling down temperatures into the low 50's with showers mainly for the valleys of this year. up and even some very low high top mountain showers and snow flurries for your monday night into tuesday as well. so it is going to be pretty low. but then more measurable rain and snow by around thursday night into friday. but temperatures out there right now in the bay area cooling down into the upper 40's sam until 49 degrees with mid 40's for those of you in paulo, alto, widespread low to mid 50's for most of the bay area. but then tomorrow's daytime highs 60's and 70's. only season along
