>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 4. >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us on the kron 4 morning news here on a december. the 17th. all right. harvey, we have to start this morning with the check of weather because we have a completely different view from the past couple of days. good morning. yeah, definitely a change from what we had been saying. we are looking at dry skies this morning in. >> why not just keep those dry skies around for a few days, even a few more days. it's looking like the frontal boundary that is going to eventually bring us the return of rainfall stalling out

before it even reaches the bay area. that means we're seeing dry into sunday likely for the vast majority of monday to until showers. get here monday night into tuesday. so take advantage of the stretch of dry weather and today is one of our driest of days. no chance of rainfall in sight for us. in fact, just some really cold conditions you look outside does show those cl ar skies all across the region. what you're not seeing is what you'll be feeling as you step out the door and it is going to be cold at cool as you venture out san jose and brett, what each at 39 right now. dublin. you're at 37 degrees. santa rosa at 34 and seeing the lead at 33. we will have some spots in rural areas of our inland valleys falling into the upper 20's this morning. this is making it one of the coldest mornings of the year so far. now you're down 15 degrees from yesterday. conquered in livermore each down 12 degrees in santa rosa down a pretty noticeable 14 degrees. from the same point yesterday. now after such a cold morning, we will see skies clearing come the

afternoon. we do have some patchy inland fog this morning that i want you to watch out for aside from that, though skies won't be offering up much gray at all. it will be all about the sunshine. some good shopping weather. good for aaron's good for just getting back outside and we'll keep that around for a few days. i'll keep you updated on when our next round of rainfall will get here still to come in the show john, thank you for that. i even had to run back into the house and grabbed my big jacket this morning because of how cold it was. >> hey, as you're traveling from the east bay into the city. it will be a little under 2 minutes for your drive time. there. the san mateo bridge running across towards the peninsula a little under 13 minutes as you're traveling and let's check out the golden gate bridge. it's going to be about a 20 minute drive from 37 to the tolls. we'll have more weather and traffic coming up this morning. but for now, let's talk about what's happening today because gilroy high school is going to closed after a threat that was made online. investigators are warning that it was part of a new challenge on tiktok that

is encouraging students to make threats against their schools for today. now the district have all noted that the challenge appears to be a national trend. kron four's. taylor's aqi has more on that for us. >> bay area school districts sounding the alarm after school threat circulated online through an apparent tiktok challenge gone viral in response. you're a high school is now closing its campus on friday in an abundance of caution all the violence that's going on at their >> i think that in in an abundance of caution, it was the right thing to do. and so i was actually very relieved to to hear that they were doing the right thing. merely maggio saw this screen shot of the original threat circulating on social media after it was shared with their son who is a student of the high school maggio says she immediately alerted gilroy police wednesday night saw my son's phone, you know. so you're immediately just like. >> at the thought that that that this could be real. like. that's your first reaction like that this this could

actually happen. and even immediately. think of other scenarios that has happened with especially like the michigan one, right. obviously. that that's a recent incident where there are lots of warnings as investigations continued through thursday. >> gilroy police say they determined that the social media post thought to involve gilroy high school had actually originated in los angeles. the statement they wrote, quote, the original post which aim to high school with the initials g h s was investigated by the los angeles school police department determined to be a los angeles area. high school. a male juvenile was identified as the person responsible for the post. it was determined not to be a credible threat. gilroy unified school district superintendent sent out this statement mentioning the trauma that re services for the community after the gilroy garlic festival shooting in 2019. she went on to thank parents and students for bringing this information to their attention. other school districts including berkeley unified also notifying parents in the community that the

district is aware of these national reports and monitoring all information. meanwhile, the california department of education has been in touch with the governor's office and state officials writing, quote, c d e continues to monitor the situation and we have been in touch with cal. oh, yes to provide additional safety measures and resources to our school districts as needed. i'm taylor reporting kron 4 news. >> well, in light of all of this school districts in law enforcement agencies are encouraging parents to talk with your kids about these threat. it can be difficult. but the american psychological association has some advice on how you should go about it first. they say lead in with your kids by listening first, you can do things like asking your child first, they've heard about what's going on at school. if your child does have any information. remember it can be shared anonymously. the ap also tells parents to keep an eye out for any potential warning signs your child may need additional help things like a change in their school performance or maybe relationships or lack of

sleep. maybe nightmares excessive worrying all a general lack of interest, you can find all these tips as well. as the latest on the ongoing social media threat on our website at kron 4 dot com. in sunnyvale. police have arrested a man on suspicion of shooting and killing another man at any legal air bnb party in sunnyvale. this happened back in august at a home on navarro drive. investigators say the house is being used as an air bnb with the host targeting under-age guest up to 200 people were at that party when 18 year old was shot and killed john, a was shot and killed. but on wednesday, police arrested 18 year-old shawn james junior in connection to that shooting. officers say they found several handguns and ammunition in his home. james was booked into the santa clara county juvenile hall as police say he was 17 at the time of the shooting. now the tesla employees suspected of shooting and killing his coworker has now been formally

charged with murder. 29 year-old anthony solima was a rein in a dublin court yesterday. prosecutors at several enhancements to that murder charge, including lying in wait. they say selena got into an argument with the victim at the tesla factory on monday waited for his co-worker in the parking lot. selena is being held without bail at the santa rita jail. santa fe police have issued a warrant for actor alec baldwin's phone after he refused to hand over in connection with the rest movie shooting investigation. now page warrant will allow investigators to seize ballance fall download information related to the movie and its employees. police has fallen for his fall. but through a lawyer. he told police to obtain a war. officials have been scrutinizing the actions of baldwin who fired the prop gun. police say there are several emails with producers and they want to inspect where bought when requested a different gun. well, back here

at home, closing arguments are a business, not a criminal enterprise holmes and her former boyfriend are accused of defrauding investors out of millions of dollars as well as misleading patients. now to the latest on california's drought emergency after multiple days of heavy rain and with more wet weather on the way many of us are wondering how it's affecting the state's water supply. well, the truth is despite the rain the drought is still far from over in it. gonea take a lot more wet weather to get us there. this is the latest drought monitor matt and we focused in on the bay area. you can 1ee most of our region is in the red extreme drought

category while doctor portions of the map, including parts of alameda santa clara counties are in the exceptional drought category, which is the very dry us. but if you compare the current conditions on the right to how things look, 3 months ago. you can see there's been some improvement district water officials say reservoirs are looking much healthier. at last check. the reservoir is a marine county are and 96% for this time of the year. san francisco's main water supply is at 72% of full i capacity, east bay mud says that their reservoirs are at 59% of full capacity and the santa clara valley water district in the south bay says that their reservoirs are at about 37%. so some improvements but also a long way to go. california lawmakers are taking a closer look at the human consequences of the drought because the state provides 2 thirds of the nation's fruit and nuts. and a 3rd of its vegetables. officials are bracing for prices to boost while experts

note the drought could contribute to food insecurity which could lead to health issues. so experts said short term solutions could include food in cash programs, longer solutions include bigger infrastructure changes. >> droughts have far-reaching impacts, including the well-being of communities, large and small that people that are hardest hit are the most vulnerable live people that are already in deficit. >> authorities are exploring ways to increase the state's water storage, although they warn the estimated cost of a proposed projects totals about 14 billion dollars. now to orange county where the u.s. coast guard and local authorities of taking to the sky to determine the location and size of a possible new oil sheen about 2 miles off the coast of huntington beach. now that she was first reported wednesday night around 7 o'clock. this comes just 2 months after an estimated 25,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the ocean because of a ruptured pipeline. 3

birthday is tomorrow. so we've got a lot of all some birthdays, but a cold one. the horizon we don't have a lot of rain. i did tell you, jon, i ran back in the house this morning to grab a coat because i was like, not going to do this day, this cold without his jacket. simple. how long it was cold temperatures going to stick around with this today. even got the extra fuzzy socks on this morning because i was on that same page with the rain as temperatures. the rest of the bay area will be we are starting this morning really, really cold across the bay. >> but we will be looking at at least comfortably. cool conditions this afternoon with highs back into the 50's fairly similar feel to where we've been the sunshine that we're going to see for much of the day is going to help that feels like temperature. speaking of the cold. here's a bit of a wintery view at donner summit up in the sierra nevada can see much right now. but that road is clear, which is good news. for those of you who may be heading up to the sierra nevada to enjoy all that fresh new snowfall we dry out across the bay and that is

the same up in the sierra. so better conditions for your travels up there. and now you just get to enjoy that multiple feet of snowfall well over 60 inches of it at many of our resorts up in the sierra high pressure. ridge is sitting to our west. it's not gonna build back enough to warm us up. but it is going to have a drying influence for just a couple of days ahead of us. our next system is set to steer its way and early next week. but it is stalling out in the process of getting here. that means sunday is going to remain dry. so today, tomorrow, sunday. all going to be dry days in this forecast come monday. it's going to be a windy and cloudy or wide by no means a super comfortable day, but not expecting that rainfall on monday. anymore won't get here until monday night at the very earliest and then on into tuesday as we will start to see rainfall pushing back into the bay area. do expect heavy showers possible on tuesday hanging on at times into wednesday morning. but beginning to taper off. then we work our

way on into thursday, a resurgence of some showers possible across the bay friday does look to be one of our drier ones for christmas eve before the potential of more rain and some more mountain snow on this saturday for christmas day. so that's the entirety of the week ahead of the next week does look to remain active. but we've got thistdry streak of weather this weekend to maybe take care of some of that shopping, some of your travels. all those errands that i know so many of us have to get done. now. today's daytime highs will pretty solidly be in the 50's saying carlos at 56 degrees redwood city of 55 san jose and santa claire also right at 55 fremont union city up to hayward all at 54 same for you in oakland berkeley and richmond. well, looking at the lay at a cool 52 north bay temperatures will be right there with. yeah. mostly in the low 50's. now, tomorrow's highs will be right around the same as today's pretty much every day after that 2 are not going to be seeing much temperature changes. look at those evening lows, though falling into the upper 20's for some rural inland areas

this morning. some 30's again tomorrow morning, which is going to be another icy cold morning. temperatures won't be so cold once we move into next week and we do see those showers having a moderating effect on overnight lows. as i mentioned, monday is set to remain dry now as will be the case and a 2 just be cloudy. and windy on monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday bringing better shower potential rain. all right, john, thanks to that. let's get a look at your traffic as you're heading from the east bay into the city right now. >> a little under 2 minutes. no slick conditions like we saw yesterday the san mateo bridge across towards the peninsula to take you a little under 14 and the golden gate bridge. about 20 minutes from the north bay into the city. now to the south bay. let's talk about this. a judge set bail at $350,000 for a man who was charged with making criminal threats involving a gun at a vta meeting last thursday. 69 year-old role in le brun was recorded on video

making the threats at a virtual meeting while speaking to vta employees santa clara county deputies made that arrest on tuesday. the run is not a vta employee. if you bills out of jail, he is suspect subject to house arrest. now, the judge also ordered him to stay more than 300 feet. 300 yards away from the facilities and meetings and he cannot possess guns or ammunition. lebron is scheduled to be back in court for a hearing on december. 28, it was just about 7 months ago that a disgruntled employee killed 9 workers at the vta railyard in san jose. the shooting force the agency to shut down all light rail services which took months to get back up and running. another disturbing story out of southern california. the la pd has made 3 arrest in connection with the mysterious deaths of a local model and her friend. family members say christie geils and marcia l a cover all us arzola went out for a night on november 12 the

but you know, we have drier conditions. so hopefully morning commute will be much better dare i say i'm hoping for friday light our meteorologists on tribal. he's been tracking that blues all over that map. john getting cold. just looking at it. i know it's cold, but it is better for the drive. so as long as you are bundled up, got the heat occurring depp in the car. >> today is going to be much easier. start now. we are seeing conditions out there that are foggy in some patches. but i think the most concerning thing for most of us is just how very cold it is. your look outside right berkeley hills camera while that's not foggy in the least bit, but it is cold can see the cold, but you can he reflected in our temperatures map right now. san jose, you're at 39 degrees dublin at 37 santa rosa at a cool 35 and saint helene, a sitting at freezing. some rural inland valleys falling as low as the 20's this morning and temperatures are certainly much colder than yesterday. san jose and avato down 11
