>> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking >> this breaking news comes to us from san jose tonight and appears to show san jose police first tried to arrest a juvenile male on the ground and then getting in an altercation with a woman. according to san jose police we've spoken with them tonight. they were originally called to the macy's at the oakridge mall around 6 this evening after reports about a group of 68 men were trying to steal items from the store and

police say, but a store employee tried to stop the thieves but couldn't and was injured. but the video shows a whole lot more. that's why when officers got to that scene, they see that group had already left. >> but then they say to people involved in this video that you saw there was one person on the ground initially being handcuffed by police. then there was the woman who came up started talking to police. and then that's when you saw that scene unfold, both of those people arrested for interfering with police so far no other information has been released about this incident. the suspects or what charges these 2 people seen in this video are now facing or the other folks. now one it as a result of this. you can watch this entire video right now on our website at kron 4 dot com. we're going to make sure you can posted and see it as well. but a lot of other news that we want to get to the saturday night here on kron. 4 news at 9 o'clock, thanks so much for joining us. i'm jonathan

mccall. >> and i'm justine waltman. >> now our other top story tonight, the omicron variant quickly becoming the most common one here in all of america. >> there's concerns tonight about a winter surge that could be here by the new year and san francisco international airport is now seeing traffic at almost 70% of where it was prepandemic and while preliminary data is indicating boosters are working against this omicron variant infectious disease. experts are cautioning everyone to take extra safety measures. this holiday travel season. kron four's gayle ong spent the day talking to travelers over at sfo and has more. >> people are heading to their holiday destinations eanly travelers. i spoke with say they feel safe because they received their booster shot. >> chris johnson and his family are heading to maui very excited. first day they arrive to san francisco international airport early for a trip they could not miss it was a 2019 1st president.

administration has taken steps to ensure a supply of roughly 200 million tests for december. but those are not expected until after christmas. critics say the u.s. has failed to make tests as readily accessible as they are in other countries like the u k and singapore. >> the city of oakland could soon require certain businesses to mandate the covid-19 vaccine oakley city councilman dan calm has introduced an emergency ordinance to require proof of vaccination, places like bars, restaurants, gyms, theaters, concert, venues and even dental offices. >> get more people vaccinated reduce the that's why we're doing this proof of vaccination ordinance for oakland. we be able to say look at city mandated requirement and honestly, you know, if you're dining out, you should be vaccinated. you have to take off the mask. around other people. >> the oakland city council is expected to vote on the issue this coming tuesday. if it passes, it would not take effect until the middle of

to going to continue to follow this and bring you updates as soon as we get them. >> oakland. police tonight say they need your help. finding the person who they say shot a homeless man just before 9 o'clock this morning on international boulevard. that person now being wanted and sought for attempted homicide. first responders were able to get to the scene to take the victim to a nearby hospital where tonight he is in critical condition. investigators are hoping that someone recognizes the person seen in these pictures and video. you get a closer look on our website. kron 4 dot com. if you have any information on who this person is. make sure you reach out to school board. president ro n- christian rodriguez is in critical condition tonight after he was reportedly hit by a car. that information coming to us from san leandro unified school superintendent doctor mike mcloughlin who says that rodriguez was walking with his wife when the crash happened. rodriguez is in grave condition. no other details on

the investigation have been made available. but superintendent mclaughlin says that the district we'll provide updates as soon as they become available. >> there's been a nother retail theft in the bay area. this one in berkeley and police say a man stole over $1000 worth of clothing from the uc berkeley student store. investigators say a student employee was injured while trying to stop the suspect from running away. police describe the suspect as an african-american male who is 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build. he was last seen wearing a green beanie and a pair of black and red sweat pants. if you have any information you're asked to call. you see police now to the incident where police have arrested 5 adults for giving alcohol to minors during a park. police say they were able to make the arrests after those adults agreed to buy alcohol to undercover agents who are posing as minors in front of a liquor store. police then arrested and cited the adults for furnishing alcohol to the minors. the penalty for doing

>> several large school districts across the state, including west contra costa have delayed the vaccine mandate deadline. the district made the call after was clear they were unprepared to add thousands of students to their independent and virtual study programs this week the west contra costa county school board members followed the lead that was set by los angeles and voted to push the deadline from january. 3rd until february 18th the state's vaccine mandate will follow the fda's full approval of the covid vaccine for each age group and is expected to go into effect in july of 2022. usc just announced it is now considering a remote start to the spring semester and will likely ask students to provide proof of booster shots stanford and chapman university's along with occidental college are all requiring eligible students to get boosters ahead of the spring semester and the university of california is urging students. to do that as well. >> a federal appeals court has

now ruled that president joe biden's vaccine mandate for large private employers can once again resume the decision reverses an earlier ruling from a federal judge which pause that nationwide mandate. the court ruled that the mandate is necessary to limit transmission of the covid-19 virus. the mandate requires private companies with 100 or more workers requiring them to be vaccinated or submit to weekly test initially that mandate should have taken effect on january 1st president joe biden is set to deliver a speech about the omicron variant this coming tuesday. according to the white house, he's expected to outline new steps to help communities struggling with the new covid strain. he's also renewing a call for those who are not yet been vaccinated to book appointments for shots. boosters are available for all american adults, but only about 16% of eligible vaccinated, adults have received a booster shot. >> san francisco's largest landlord bear toss investments
