the story that everyone is talking about. retirement rumors swirling around salmon tale native. an nfl legend tom brady. what his dad is telling kron 4 tonight about his future plans. that is where we start this saturday night here on kron. 4 news at 10 o'clock. thanks for joining us. i'm jonathan mccall. justine has the night off. kron. 4 has complete team coverage tonight for you of the big sports stories happening across the bay area. kron four's kate rooney live in southern california at so fi stadium with a preview of tomorrow's big nfc championship game between the rams and the san francisco forty-niners. but first we head to the kron 4 news room and kylen mills with the latest on the story that everyone is talking about in the future of tom brady and what his dad told us earlier today. >> hey, jonathan kron 4 broke the news this afternoon that tom brady may not in fact be retiring. several nfl insiders reported on social media earlier in the day. the san mateo native is set to retire after 22 seasons. however, tom

brady senior told us those reports are untrue. he said his son is not made a decision yet. our own sports producer kevin cider called brady senior who says this is all a rumor that a swirling because of a certain sports website and its reporters. several team reporters have tweeted the bucs gm jason light says that brady called him today and said he hasn't made up his mind. it's also being reported that head coach first aerion said brady told him the same thing essentially. meanwhile, a number of players across the league been tweeting their congratulations to brady fans have been in a frenzy and the brady camp. he's been silent. of course. we'll keep you updated if we learn anything new on this story. jonathan? alright, kyler, thank you so much. meanwhile, we're less than 24 hours to go until the big nfc championship game. >> between the san francisco forty-niners and the la rams down at sofi stadium in southern california. kron four's kate rooney has been giving us a look at some of the events that have been taking up leading up to tomorrow's big game. she's live in la tonight with a look

at what's on the way. and kate. >> hey jonathan. yeah. hard to believe it is getting really close here. the actual forty-niners players. well, hopefully they're in bed by now. they've cut a pretty big game coming up tomorrow. but for the fans today was almost as good as the big game itself. that's because the team hosted in la invasion at tom's watch bar at la live in downtown l a and boy, it was this a good one for forty-niners fans. hundreds of fans showed up lines absolutely wrapping around the block throughout la live people. the back of the line probably didn't get into this one. but once they did, here's what they had to look forward to meet and greets with former forty-niners players, some free swag. and then most important of all, a chance to hang out with those hundreds of other forty-niners fans in town for the game. i'm a people who have just around the corner from la live. of course, some people from the bay area and then others traveled from sacramento, iowa, new jersey, virginia and brooklyn. but what they all have in common is a love for

right, kate, you rest up as well. you're going to have a big day tomorrow. >> covering the game as well. we'll see you tomorrow. have a good night. meanwhile, some of the 40 niner faithful were catching some flights heading down to la this morning ahead of tomorrow's big game. they got a big sendoff courtesy of united airlines over at sfo as they boarded their flight. the forty-niners drumline made some noise staff even giving out free gear and even sour dough. sam made an appearance is all of that celebration intended to get the passengers pumped up before the game. >> i hope we feel is good on the way the flight, not what we want to bring that stadium feelings so that fans when they get off the plane in la, they're ready to go and ready to cheer on the forty-niners. >> king says the flights to los angeles have been completely booked a trip like this can definitely add up with tickets, air fare and hotel. but the fans that we talked with say it is all worth it. according to stubhub, the match is trending toward being the number one best-selling playoff game in

history. that is fans. meanwhile, back here at home spent the day hitting up store shelves for merchandise and swag before tomorrow's big game against the rams kron four's phillipe djegal headed to the south bay talking to fans in sunnyvale. >> where the forty-niners faithful. the pre-game routine starts a day >> dick's sporting goods in sunnyvale laying out all of its minors gear during a pep rally and the school matching shirts, hats and raleigh cards, all potentially their new lucky charms of the niners pull out a win sunday. you superstitious to give me some press for the game. i had to get some new apparel. i got plenty of judges, but i had a game. whenever bay area sports teams make deep playoff runs, dick's sporting goods, spokesperson, while greene says it's always good for business, especially when the miners are on the brink of reaching we have a dedicated strong niner base. you know, they've been supporting the niners all year and they are

forecast in southern california. yeah. and that image of the golden gate bridge doesn't get more iconic, especially for our forty-niners. let's take a look. >> at the bang niner game forecast because we're going to see temperatures in the low 70's in southern california. they face off against the rams. very sunny and breezy out there for your sunday game day forecast kick up or at 03:30pm, in the afternoon. and for those of you celebrating closer to home, especially if you couldn't make it out to socal because of those astronomically high game day. ticket prices. weather is looking great a little bit cooler than today, but nothing we can't handle going to be seasonable nonetheless in the upper 50's to mid 60's for your afternoon highs and city hall already decked out in niner gear. it's right now red and gold this evening as is the tip of the sales force towers in san francisco. certainly feeling the pride and wishing look to our forty-niners and we're going to see temperatures out there

right now as you head out for your saturday afternoon in the low 40's for half moon bay, berkeley. and even those of you in temper on already celebrating our forty-niners. 49 degrees out there right now as i speak, oakland and san mateo in the low 50's with alameda. 52 degrees in petaluma and santa rosa. very chilly temperatures out there already in the low 40's air quality for tomorrow. still going to see hazy skies continuing even through monday, moderate air particles. but we will notice the return of gusty offshore breezes monday through wednesday. and that's actually going to help improve air quality on tuesday and wednesday of this upcoming week. wind speeds out there right now fairly calm out of the east. and we are going to see, though, as i fast forward 2 monday into your tuesday night, that's going to be the wind speeds are really going to ramp up because we're going to notice right along the bay area coastline and north bay valleys. we could see gusts in that 20 to 30 mile per hour

luck. >> and prosperity say happy gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> let's talk about our 4 zone forecast. a live look at san francisco from the sutro tower camera. this saturday night. a big day for the bay area tomorrow as we get ready for the nfc championship game. a lot of folks going to be paying close attention to that for meteorologists. rodriguez here tonight with a look at what's on tap for sunday. yeah. check out city hall and sales force tower. both lit up in red and gold. also the same colors as the chinese new year. so hopefully that water tiger >> is very auspicious for our forty-niners tomorrow. best of luck to them. let's take a look at our high temperatures today because we were certainly above average 3 to 6 degrees above normal in the low to mid 60's out there with san jose and santa rosa warming up to 65 degrees. and we all should be in the upper 50's to low 60's so we can't have any rain in the forecast.

at least we have beautiful weather to enjoy the outdoors. and we're also going to see great barbecue weather for those of you who plan on watching the game or if you're tailgating, just have fun. be safe. >> and go niners radar for out there right now. very dry, clear conditions, but we are going to notice that increase in low cloud cover to start out your sunday morning. first arriving throughout the bay area coastline, half moon bay shortly after midnight going to see this ability at or near 0. and then by midmorning, as i passed for around the bay area shoreline and even for north bay and east bay valleys could see visibility at or near 0. so it is going to take a while for it to lift in clear out until the sun eventually comes out. but we are going to see because of the dense low clouds and fog temperatures tomorrow going to be near season along the coast and east bay shoreline. still a few degrees above average for warmest inland valleys. but temperatures that out there right now today already tracking that cooling trend. we're seeing widespread low to

mie 40's for most of our inland valleys in the north bay and east bay. still a little bit mild for those of you in san jose and oakland, 50 degrees with downtown san francisco degree warmer at 51 degrees and overnight lows for tonight. subfreezing temperatures for santa rosa. so bundle up there. if you do head out for your saturday night, 33 degrees with widespread mid to upper 50's far north the east bay and south bay valleys. a little bit milder, though, but just barely for those of you on the bay area, shoreline downtown san francisco at 43 degrees. but half moon bay only warming up into the mid-fifties because of that low cloud cover and even dense low clouds and fog for downtown san francisco. cooling down temperatures to 59 degrees with low 60's for oakland and concord. but mid 60's for santa rosa and san jose and taking a look ahead at our 10 at 10 outlook. hate to be the bearer of bad news, jonathan. but we're just going to see a lot of sunshine. mild temperatures, though, after a midweek cool down this upcoming week and no rain in

sight. not looking good for the month of february. as far as our rain some already thinking ahead, praying for a march miracle. back to you. all right, marissa, thank you. >> tonight, san francisco unified schools and the union representing its teachers have reached a new deal on a contract under that deal. teachers and educators would receive $4,000 through 2 bonuses this year. the deal would also increase daily rates for substitute teachers. officials say the deal will help to recruit and retain educators as the district suffers with staffing shortages. the last deal between both sides expired back in 2020. this deal would run through june of 2023. it must still be approved in voted on by the teachers union and the san francisco school board. in the north bay. tonight, sonoma county is providing extra covid-19 vaccine clinics for residents to get the vaccine. the clinic will be held for the next 4 weekends at the sonoma county event center fairgrounds in santa rosa. the clinic will run from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon and

is open to eligible residents until february. 20th. the clinic we are told, can provide up to 500 vaccines every day. the county says, despite all the changes, they are still encouraging more parents to get their kids vaccinated. california attorney general rob bonta now warning folks to watch out for fake covid testing sites that are now popping up across the state. bonta says that scammers are simply trying to take advantage of a shortage in tests to make sites available for folks looking to take one. he says the crooks often pose with legitimate clinics taking payments. but without sending back the test results, he says others trying to collect personal information with the intentisn of committing fraud. been to folks to check to see if their tests sides or real or fake before heading out to get those test. the information, if you are curious, can be found on your county's public health department website. as we mentioned, sonoma county, we just read that story. but a

story that we have been following tonight out of the out of out new york is a fact that move on to another story. automaker kheaa is recalling more than 500, 400,000 cars over potentially faulty air bags. the recall includes a handful of models made between 2017 in 2019 forte. coop sedona is souls and soul. evs are impacted. the national highway traffic safety administration says the problems with the car's electrical circuit could prevent air bags from deploying in a crash. owners can have that effect fix for free and a key, a dealership for your money. tonight, americans continue to see more money in their paychecks at the end of 2021. but with inflation, it was actually a pay cut that could get worse. sky-high inflation is eating into new purchasing power in a big way. 80% of people in a recent survey said that the rising cost of food and other

at&t business fiber, now with speeds up to 5-gigs. everyone. the covid-19 pandemic has now sparked the so-called great resignation. americans are quitting their jobs in record numbers in search of jobs with better benefits or even for some new careers. for many older americans on the job, they're leaving the job market for good. washington correspondent alexandra limon shows us the impact. it's now have. >> good evening. since the start of the pandemic, americans are quitting their jobs in record numbers and that's impacting the economy and the labor market in various ways. well, labor force participation has edged up. it remains subdued in part, reflecting the aging of the population and retirements. susan weinstock says aarp conducted a survey of americans 50 and older of those who had retired. >> 21% of them said that they were tired earlier. they had planned because of the pandemic. one stocks as those

newly retired say they left their jobs for a variety of reasons, including concerns about being exposed to covid-19. many of those older americans say they won't return to the workforce because their retirements are permanent. aarp says those that have returned are going back to the same jobs they had before. a 3rd of them have found better 25% said the number of job the job had the number of hours that they wanted to work. and about a quarter of them also said that that, you know, offered more flexibility like work from home while the great resignation poses challenges for employers, it's also providing greater benefits for workers with constraints on labor supply. employers are having difficulties filling job openings. >> and wages are rising at their fastest pace in many years. >> aarp survey also found that those who did return to work reported finding jobs. there are more passionate about in washington. alexandra limon. >> caught on camera. thieves target and the speed, jim,

>> caught on camera. 2 men break into an east bay jim and take off with nearly $5,000 in equipment. this all happened overnight at the diablo crossfit in pleasant hill. the gym's owner now sharing his story with kron four's amanda hari. >> the tells me the all across it is a small local business. he says the last few years have been tough with the covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions and shutdowns that have come with it. he says now this is another hurdle to overcome. you get the feeling of being violated. you know, we've had someone that came in probably around the premises. >> at will with ease and and obviously very comfortable. a scary situation for an east bay, small business. 2 men broke into diablo crossfit. >> you can see them in this video late friday night. they spent about a half hour going through the entire jam. one of

the coaches noticed early saturday morning he had found the mom are our jim, especially in disarray. you could tell immediately that someone had broken in the coach contacted owner craig howard. he checked the security video and can see it all go down. 2 men looking around and then stuffing items into a back. they broke in through a back window in this video. you can see one of the men noticed a security camera and cover his face while most of the gym equipment is too heavy or large to move. the suspects went after electronics. we moved a lot of our business online and to be online. you have to have camera equipment. you have lighting. >> have sound equipment. we have mixture boards for podcast. they took about $5,000 worth of stuff. howard reached out to pleasant hill. police. >> they told him they were in the area last night about 15 minutes after they believe the suspects left. police say the suspects may have triggered an

alarm at a neighboring building. police told howard the suspects may have been strategic with their timing of a car accident, pleasant hill that night the about the same time. and they said they monitor that. they know the police will be distracted. howard says in the last month. >> they've had reports of people seen around the building. after hours, police told in these situations are becoming more common. >> but they say the suspects usually don't come back because many home or business owners fortify their space after a break in for our members all say we're probably safer now than we were prior to this. howard tells me they've been located in that building for 13 years. >> in that time, this is the second break-in. amanda hari kron. 4 >> oakland police are investigating for overnight shootings. the first happened around 8 o'clock friday night near 4th and foothill avenue. officers say they found one person shot. that victim is now recovering in stable condition. an hour later,

officers were called to another shooting. this one at 57th and international boulevard. officers say that hictim drove themselves to the hospital and is listed in stable condition around 11. 30 police say another shooting happened. this one around 98th and b street officers say they were notified about this one after the victim showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. then at midnight, officers were called to the 4th shooting at a home near 30th and san pablo avenue. officers say that victim was found shot several times. that victim also in stable condition. so far investigators have not released any details on a suspect in any of the shootings. anyone with information is now urged to call oakland police. 2 people are dead and what benicia police are calling a murder suicide. the scene unfolding around noon today on east east street tech to say when they got to the scene, they found 2 people dead from gunshot wounds. detectives say an investigation is still ongoing. but so far no names have been released. stay with

kron 4 for more details as soon as it becomes available. palo alto police say they need your help trying to find a man who they say committed a lewd act earlier this week inside of a grocery store, police say that wednesday morning a woman reported a man who was inappropriately touching himself as he stood behind or in the checkout line at the safeway on middlefield road. police say the suspect is a black man in his 20's or 30's standing 6 feet tall when around 210 pounds. he was last seen wearing a black face covering along with a black baseball had in a hoodie. police say the suspect got into an argument with another man who witnessed that incident. officers say that man then took off in a white van. anyone with information is urged to call police new at 10 o'clock. tonight, we're learning what caused a huge traffic mess for drivers on i-580, in dublin this afternoon. chp officers say they were called to check out a possible explosive device inside of a truck that was

parked in the center median on the east lanes of 5.80, near even canyon road. all lanes were shut down for a number of hours. so the alameda county sheriff's bomb squad could come in. scan the truck. make sure everything was all right. and it was crews were able to reopen all the lanes a few hours later tonight. there's no word on if anyone was arrested or injured in this incident. talk about our 4 zone forecast tonight. a live look at the san mateo bridge, folks in california. you're going to bed tonight. i know we need some rain, but you really got a feel for those folks on the east coast because they are just getting hammered with snow and frigid temperatures. you're saying that in florida tonight i was talking to one of my friends earlier today and she was saying that she had to pull out of code in miami in miami, though. >> they actually own coats in miami, i guess for very light use it once a year. and i guess the use that today, i think people in miami they're

more comfortable in our hurricane, then dealing with frigid temperatures in the 30's right? >> checking chilly temperatures. are those of you at south and the sierra still tracking a lot of powder out there on the side of the roads. but that is old snow that's quickly starting to melt because of the mild temperatures there. tomorrow we're going to cool down to near seasonal for most of the bay area along the coast and east bay shoreline. but for those of you at south lake tahoe tracking another beautiful day of temperatures in the mid 40's. but we are seeing right now the sierra snowpack still holding steady averaging exactly where you should be for this time of year. 100% of normal for northern sierra and southern sierra. but overall averaging 99% of average. but we do have to worry about that. rapid snowmelt not tracking any rain or snow showers in the coming days. a mix of high clouds overhead. but temperatures at south lake tahoe, flirting with 50's which is not what we should be seeing this time of year. but the good news is we are going to notice a little

bit of a break in the weather pattern. as far as that snow melt goes, there is a storm that's going to try to clip this year. but unfortunately going to be more of a wind maker and that's going to help that cool dry air mass cool down temperatures by tuesday to 33 degrees of seeing a nearly 15 degree offer from monday's afternoon highs to tuesday. so if they are going to get some relief as far as that rapid snowmelt goes, but it's not going to last wrong because temperatures once again going to ramp up after tuesday. but temperatures out there right now in the bay area, widespread 40's out there, low 50's for alameda oakland in downtown san francisco. >> low 40's from petaluma and santa rosa. us about 10 degrees cooler there. and temperatures tomorrow. upper 50's for downtown san francisco. low 60's for oakland and 64 degrees. for those of you in san jose. and we're going to see an increase in winds on monday with the storm increasing cloud cover. but overall, a dry weather pattern in the coming days. back to you, jonathan. marisa,

thank you. as we were just talking about, this is the scene that folks on the east coast are dealing with a bomb cyclone, folks. >> are hitting the east coast which is already knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of folks. >> in messages along more than 100,000 people are in the dark this morning. more than 20 inches of snow fell in the state. some areas like virginia, new jersey, new york, maryland in delaware, under states of emergency tonight because of that storm already more than 4,000 flights have been canceled as leaders warn of high winds combining with snow to create whiteout conditions on the roads. meanwhile, the bull's eye of the storm went right over new jersey and new york where folks there woke up with snow so deep that many folks simply could not make it out of their homes. james ford brings us the latest. >> a blizzard is a severe snowstorm and this is what that that's an ambulance. they got stranded in a roadside

snowdrift and it was by no means the only service vehicle with troubles. that's a parking lot plow truck that was disabled by the deep snow. by definition of blizzard has % strong sustained winds of 35 miles an hour or more. that means the snow blow so strongly that it's hard to see in blizzard conditions. visibility is a quarter mile. >> or less right now. i'm talking to you from 180 paces away from the camera. that's how low the visibility is right now. even with their headlights on which makes them more visible vehicles we encountered couldn't be seen even a couple of football field length. but we saw plenty of vehicles like this stranded that that we helped many cars dig out, including that one only to have others like this one get stranded

seconds later. >> there were countless vehicles stuck across suffolk county. also. people tried clearing snow even during the heaviest snowfall only to find a persistent problem good part for the it gets covered again. harrison says it was an issue at homes like hers and that some of the few shopping areas that were open. >> like this stop and shop in bafshore even if it's 2 in the morning. >> going to be done. they said that it will stop snowing around 07:00pm. so probably will be out of here by maybe 2 in the morning tomorrow. that's a reminder that the snow has fallen all day. >> deeply. >> and is a reminder also. >> but the person responsible for removing snow from roadways in suffolkacounty has this reminder that there are challenges going forward, the next couple of a shooting. this scene really low temperatures.
