of hundreds of patients hang in the balance. kron four's charles clifford has the latest. >> as things stand right now, laguna honda hospital here in san francisco could lose federal funding by mid september in the 600 patients that live there will need to be relocated. some patients have already moved to other facilities. the city of san francisco said today that 9 patients have died after being relocated and they are now filing 2 lawsuits against the federal government to keep the hospital open. both lawsuits are being filed against the u.s. department of health and human services and the centers for medicare and medicaid services. the first lawsuit would ask that federal funding to the hospital remain in place. while the legal process plays out. the second lawsuit as a class action lawsuit being filed on behalf of patients at the hospital asking that the transfers be stopped. now, earlier this year, cms said that they would pull federal funding from the hospital and require that all patients be relocated because cms had found multiple violations procedures at the

hospital, including people smoking on campus, missed doses of medication and improper infection, control procedures for its part, the city says they have been working with cms to try to resolve those issues and keep the hospital open. we know that laguna honda has challenges. >> we understand the need to make corrective action. and we've already implemented significant amounts of corrective action based on the recommendations of cms and what we know that we have to do on thursday. we also heard from a nurse who says the relocating patients >> is not in their best interest. they're human beings. they belong at the going on that they deserve the best care. >> let's give the best care. let's give good oversight. kron. 4 has reached out to cms for comment. but as of thursday afternoon, we have not heard back. but for now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> solano county's health department has confirmed the first human case of west nile virus in the county. health

officials say the person is from vacaville and is currently recovering. west nile virus is transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. several bay area counties have reported finding mosquitoes carrying west nile experts advise residents to drain standing water, make sure their doors and windows have tight-fitting screens to keep mosquitoes out and use insect. we put palin to try to keep mosquitoes from biting. you. >> a cooling tower at the embassy suites. napa valley is at the center of the legionnaires outbreak. county health officials say a dozen people have been infected and one person has died. the cooling tower at the hotel is on california boulevard in napa. and health officials say it contained high levels of the bacteria. most of the victims lived nearby. the hotel that tower has now been taken offline. people can get sick when they breathe and small drops of water or accidentally swallow water that contains the bacteria. the disease is treatable with antibiotics. if it is detected early. controversial former

taylor's home was falsified. >> we allege that the defendants knew their actions and falsifying the affidavit could create a dangerous situation. and we allege these unlawful acts resulted in miss taylor's death. >> the charges include unlawful conspiracy, use of force and obstruction of justice. the justice department is also conducting a non criminal investigation of the louisville pd to look into any possible patterns of excessive force sent unreasonable search and seizures. >> wnba star brittney griner has been sentenced to 9 years in a russian prison. griner was found guilty of drug charges. she has been held for the past 6 months since being arrested at the moscow airport for having vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her bags. she did speak in court saying she had no intention of breaking the law. the state department says griner is being wrongfully detained. the u.s. government is working on a prisoner swap for her.
