90s. it depends. 60s and upper 70s with low to mid 80s for a few. let's check traffic with sal castendo. >> we have a few things we are watching that might slow you down. we will start with the eastshore freeway and show you 80 westbound as you drive out to the maccarthur maze from the carquinez bridge, a 22 minute drive. a little bit of slowing in vallejo as you drive to the carquinez bridge. here is the a bridge toll plaza, a 15 to 20 minute wait there. traffic is okay on interstate 880 in oakland north and southbound. traffic continues to move along very well. southbound 680 at stoneridge, there is a new injury accident. the fire department is on the way. southbound 680 is already slow. now we may have some problems. we have issues on southbound 880. we have southbound 880 near industrial there is an accident. that has slowed traffic heading

south out of hayward down to union city. tens of thousands of university of california workers are starting a three day strike. >> the walkout will affect all 10 of the church -- campuses. ktvu's allie rasmus is live. how will this affect things? >> reporter: it will have an impact on patient care and services. you can see ucsf medical center , you can see the picket lines forming behind us in front of this campus. the workers on strike include pharmacy technicians, respiratory therapists, custodians and security workers, food service workers and nurses and technical workers.

for patients, that means hundreds of medical procedures had to be postponed or rescheduled as the strike goes on for the next 72 hours. the union represents about 25,000 employees here in the stormy -- uc system. they held a similar demonstration back in february. they have been in contract negotiations for more than a year with no agreement. a uc spokesperson said they are offering a 3% pay raise over four years and anything more than that is unreasonable. the pay raises the union has asked for are about 20% per year. the union disputes that number. the union says what is at issue is not only increased rages -- increased wages, but they also want a guarantee from uc that the food service, security and other jobs will not be outsourced to an outside

company that will be paid at minimum wage with little to no benefits. they also don't want higher insurance premiums and they don't want uc to raise the retirement age for workers. they say after the stalled negotiations for over a year that they are imposing a contract on the workers. the workers are not happy about it. that is why they decided to call this 72 hour strike. >> that was allowed an active scene. we will check in with you throughout the morning. new from san francisco overnight, police are busy searching for suspects after a shooting near a church in the mission district. two people were wounded near guerrero.

>> reporter: there was a funeral going on last night here . there is a question whether or not there is a connection between the funeral and the shooting. the shooting happened a few feet from the front of the church . there are remnants of the crime scene out there. the two victims were outside when they were shot. san francisco police came out just before midnight and found the two men suffering from non- life threatening injuries. the shooting was a few feet from the first samoan congressional church. there was a funeral held here earlier in the evening around 7 pm. sources tell us there could be a possible connection between the funeral and double shooting. there are reports that one of the two men that were shot is the brother of the person whose funeral it was being held here. that is an increase unconfirmed report. we do not have any suspect descriptions at this time, this

is the early stage of the investigation. those two men suffered from non- life threatening injuries. happening today, police will hold a news conference to reveal more information about an officer-involved shooting in downtown san jose. that happened around 7 am yesterday morning near east william street, not far from san jose state university. investigators say officers opened fire on an armed home invasion suspect before taking into -- him into custody. that officer-involved shooting was after two other shootings. the first took lace in the parking lot of story road shortly after midnight. officers found a man who had been shot lying outside a car. he was pronounced dead at the scene. a few hours later, police were called to a second shooting

nearby. officers detained several people and recovered a gun. the victim and that shooting is listed in stable condition. it is not clear if the two shootings are connected. in hawaii, the kilauea volcano is still erupting sending lava and ash into nearby communities. 26 homes have been destroyed so far. love is flowing and neighborhoods on the big island. there is a new concern. new vents have opened up releasing sulfur dioxide, a toxic gas that can cause irritation, burning and breathing problems. more than 1700 people have already evacuated. officials are letting people back in their homes in certain areas briefly to grab whatever they left behind. >> we also went in to feed some of the pets in there right now. it is sad. >> that area has been hit with several earthquakes.

today is the first date to vote in the june 5 primary. this year's primary includes races for governor and congressional seats. there's a race for mayor in san francisco. bay area voters will be asked to raise bridge toll fees by $3.00. voters must be registered by may 21. under new law, all registered voters will receive vote by mail ballots. some counties are offering early voting at select locations before voting day. california republicans held their state convection over the weekend in san jose -- san diego.

bank of america will give financial support to remington, the bank will go make a. this comes weeks after bank of america said it would stop financing military style weapons for civilians after the florida school shooting massacre in february. bank of america is contributing $43 million-$193 million lending package by seven banks. the goal of the loan is to help remington get back on its feet as it emerges from bankruptcy. two big names in the world of coffee are teaming up to take on a powerful rival. nestli will pay starbucks more than $7 billion in cash to a nestli to start selling starbucks products in nestli's coffee systems beginning next year. nestli's capsules are competing

-- to the maccarthur maze, it is about a 20 minute delay before you make it onto the span. elon musk, ceo of tesla is taking a dramatic step. >> starting today, tesla reportedly is cutting back on the amount of outside contractors. ktvu's alex savidge is live with more. >> reporter: elon musk says it is time to scrub off the barnacles, as he puts it. starting today, those third- party contractors will not be allowed access to any tesla facilities, unless a tesla employee is willing to vouch for the quality of their work. he sent out an email to employees letting them know about this new policy. it is

unclear at this point exactly how many outside contractors potentially could be denied access to tesla facilities beginning today. during last week's first- quarter earnings call elon musk told investors the number of third-party contractors had gotten out of hand. that is why he promised to correct them. right now, the electric carmaker continues to reorganize as the company continues to lose money quarter after quarter. tesla is continuing to struggle to increase production, especially when it comes to its new model 3 sedan. elon musk says he believes tesla should be turning a profit sometime later on this year. meanwhile, he is taking this dramatic step. he is vowing to cut back on those third-party contractors unless someone who works for tesla is willing to vouch for them. the napa county sheriff's

office is investigating a deadly crash involving a fire engine and a motorcyclist near st. helena. investigators say that fire engine was heading to a crash on highway 128 near lake hennessy when the collision happened. the and motorcyclist apparently lost control and hit the fire engine. the chp says the motorcyclist died at the scene. details about the rider are not being released until relatives are notified. no one else was seriously hurt. the body of the missing boater that went missing at the bottom of the san joaquin river a week ago has been recovered. the body was found saturday afternoon. he was one of two men who fell into the water east of antioch ridge on april 28. they were trying to anchor their fishing boat when awake through them into the water. someone in another boat pulled one man out of the water but

could not find the other. neither man was wearing a life jacket. a weeklong investigation in daly city of a shooting inside a bowling alley has led to arrests. the two suspects were arrested on saturday for the shooting on april 28 inside classic bowling. police say the gunfire followed a fight between two groups of people. one man was shot and remains in the hospital. several victims and family members of victims of the golden state killer traveled from northern california to nashville, tennessee to go to a national convention on crime. that event in tennessee was planned before the arrest of a suspect, joseph deangelo . the long-awaited break in the case added to the emotion of that meeting.

back on dry land after a flood onboard their ship. happened on board the carnival dream last thursday. it was cruising the caribbean, a large water pipe broke. passengers on that hallway say crewmembers came down to bail out the water. the cruise line says it took about six hours but everything was dried out and replaced. carnival gave the affected travelers a full refund and offered them a discount on a future cruise. other travelers aboard this ship stayed -- said they do not know the flood happened until other passengers told him get stomach a pickup truck hit a southwest airlines plane at the baltimore washington airport. the truck became stuck under the plane. passengers were on the plane, they complained that they were not allowed to get off for two hours. southwest says none of the 172 passengers were hurt. the passengers were helped off that flight as a pickup truck

was still stuck under the plane. a jetblue plane made an emergency landing after an outer windshield shattered while it was in flight yesterday. the flight was headed to tampa from puerto rico when ada had to land in fort lauderdale. it landed safely about 1:00 in the afternoon. a flight attendant says the flight was never in any serious danger because airplane windshields have several layers of windscreens. last week, a window cracked at a southwest flight headed from chicago to new jersey. several rural counties in illinois have taken an unusual stand for gun rights. they are using the word sanctuary, a term conservatives often associate with the liberal policy to oppose a federal law. five counties recently passed resolution declaring themselves sanctuary counties for gun owners.
