and pam. the airport is quiet this morning. we do know that the lane was registered to a man in carmichael. which is right outside of sacramento. officials have not released the identity of the two people in the plane. they were killed when the single-engine plane went down just a half-mile from here, from the airport at about 4 pm yesterday. the records was scattered. -- wreckage was scattered. they all responded to the scene. at this point, they have not determined the cause of the crash but witnesses say the plane appeared to be having engine trouble. >> we were practicing in the golf course. you hear the plane take off. you can hear it sputtering. and it didn't sound right. and then the engine started sputtering again. made a right turn. going back towards the airport. next thing you know, the plane went sideways and went straight down.

you could hear a loud thud into the concrete. >> reporter: the plane is said to be a vance rv six. this type of pain is a popular kid plane. the faa and the ntsb are continuing to investigate what caused the crash. we did get a chance to go by the scene this morning. it appears that all those large pieces of wreckage have been cleared back to you. >> all right, alyssa, thank you. time is now 6:04. san francisco police are still investigating a stabbing last night in dolores park. a popular gathering spot. just after 7 pm, police rushed to dolores park to break up a fight. they found a man who had been stabbed. he is expected to survive. several people were detained and questioned at the park. so far, no arrests have been made. a brush fire is now fully contained after burning in san jose. it burned 16 acres. it started last night.

by 9:00, it was under control. no injuries are reported. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. sideshows in oakland kept the police busy of the memorial day weekend. last night, open -- oakland police tweeted these photos showing several cars being towed. police questioning drivers. sideshows have become really common. including in oakland and san jose. there could be as many as 500 vehicles involved in the sideshow. the cars spin in circles, often with people hanging out the cars. oakland police haven't said yet if any arrests have been made. a bay area pet rescue worker is caring for two puppies that were upended in east oakland and left for dead. the puppies have severe injuries. one of them may not survive. rob malcolm has more on the effort to save them. >> reporter: working for rocket dog rescue for 20 years.

she's rarely received a call like this. >> i got a message that there was two puppies that have been thrown, like abundant -- abandoned. that they were severely injured in bad shape. >> reporter: she arranged for the dogs to be seen by event. they will need a lot of love and attention. >> the first thing, you know, i noticed was that the stock's foot is -- dog's foot was cutoff or there was an accident. >> reporter: severely malnourished and suffered a broken jaw hanging on both sides. she may have to be put down. >> i don't know if it was an act of intentional abuse. or horribly neglectful situation. i don't know. >> reporter: they were found in g street in east oakland. broken furniture, mattresses,

keep lava outbreak this is the fourth week of volcanic activity on hawaii. new video shows how active those lava flows are. in one of the hardest hit neighborhoods. the scientists estimate lava fountains are now shooting as high as 200 feet. emergency responders are repositioning and want to focus on people who ignore evacuation orders. many of them are now in the possible path of lava flowing from cracks in the ground. >> all of a sudden, the crack forms. those guys need to be aware, not just be in there and forgetting was going on because the whole subdivision is volleyball -- vulnerable at this point. >> as the eruption continues, more roads are covered with lava , which reduces the number of ways to escape. a couple from san joaquin

thing creating a hazard in hawaii. the uss arizona memorial of pearl harbor is closed indefinitely. that memorial over the sunken battleship has been closed for repairs. this past weekend, military officials say there are cracks in the structure and that the cracks show the structure of the water is not being properly supported. now, they are trying to figure out how to repair the damage and make the memorial safe again for visitors. 6:13. about 8:00 hour time, this morning, president trump will be right here. this is arlington national cemetery. just outside of washington,, dc. the president will be there. he will lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. that's it on your right. there will also be a moment of silent -- silence afterwards. it honors the men and women who gave their lives serving the country. that is scheduled at arlington national cemetery in about two

hours from now. the first soldier was buried at what is now arlington national cemetery 150 years ago this week. today, more than 400,000 people are buried, cremated, or in caskets across the ground. 624 acres. with 27-30 funeral services a day, five days a week, cemetery is adding about 7000 new burials area. now the cemetery is considering changes to the eligibility requirements for burial there. at the current pace, he could run out of room by 2041. 6:14. this year, is the 100th anniversary of the end of the first world war. >> one of the efforts to remember those who lost their lives offers -- serving our country is the tomb of the unknown soldier. reporter bob bernard has more on how that memorial came to be and the effort to bring in an identified mama -- american soldier to arlington national

it will be followed by a memorial on the ground. short distance away from here. this is video from last year's event. it will include the color guard, marching band, and several speakers. san francisco mayor mark farrell will speak. a goldstar family of an air force major who was killed in afghanistan will have a chance to lay a wreath in her honor. later, and the ceremony, there will also be eighth 21 gun salute as well as a flyover. this event and the ceremony open to the public and officials say that parking at the main post is free today for this memorial day. this is the 150th year the presidio hosts an event to honor servicemen and women. many other bay area communities are hosting memorial day ceremonies as well today.

it includes the marin county united veterans council, which holds a service at 10:00 in san rafael. that's at the veterans memorial auditorium. golden gate national cemetery in san bruno will hold its 77th memorial day service. that will include a use military color guard and a wreathlaying. thousands of people are expected at san jose's oak hills memorial park. japanese-american military members will be honored. that ceremony starts at 10:00 it will be followed by the main ceremony that includes attributes to americans killed in other wars. that leads us to our question of the day. how will you be spending memorial day? honoring servicemembers? flying an american flag? barbecue with family and friends? or are you doing something

dehydrated. the candidates for san francisco mayor will use the final days of campaigning to try to sway voters. polls show it is a close race but no clear front runner in the crowded field of eight candidates. london breed, president with a slight 10 -- lead. the loan republican in the race is richie greenberg. the winner will finish the remaining year of the late mayor ed lee's term. city of san francisco needs poll workers to help out on election day june 5. poll workers are paid $195 election officials say they don't have enough poll workers this year because students who usually work the polls are graduating.

the party and affiliated groups are spending more than $4 million on negative commercials and campaign literature in an effort to win back the house. 93-year-old former president george hw bush is still in the hospital in maine being treated for low blood pressure and fatigue. a spokesman for mr. bush says he will probably stand -- stay in the hospital for a few days and that the former president is all -- awake, alert, and not in any pain. this is the second time in less than a month that the former president has been hospitalized. his wife, of course, of 73 years, barbara died last month, a day after her funeral, mr. bush was hospitalized for nearly 2 weeks because of an infection. a very special ceremony will be held this memorial day at the tomb of the unknown soldier in arming -- arlington national cemetery. coming up at 7, details on how

we're following some severe weather. at least one person is now missing after these flash flood outside of baltimore. pouring rain and flash flooding turns streets in ellicott city, maryland, into rivers. r were washed away. some people were left stranded. the first floor buildings on some streets were completely submerged under water. the governor of maryland has declared a state of emergency. now, the water has gone down quite a bit. but crews have not been able to check on all of the damage at this point. last night and early this morning, first responders went door-to-door to search for

welcome back to mornings on 2. over the weekend president trump welcomed back an american citizen who was held in jail in venezuela for two years. josh holt from utah went there to marry a woman he had met online. he got married and they're waiting for the proper visas to come back to the united states when police accused him of stockpiling weapons. both holt and his wife were arrested and were held without trial for to years. on saturday holt said the ordeal was difficult with a rough start to a new marriage but he is grateful to be home. >> i am just overwhelmed with gratitude for you guys for

everything that you have done. for the support of my wife. for the two years they were very difficult. >> the couple was not injured while in prison. they did get medical care yesterday just outside of washington hoping to return to utah tomorrow. as for the weapons that landed holt and his wife in jail, they were planted by corrupt police officers for political reasons. this morning the indiana teacher protected students he made his first public comment. jason seaman was released from the hospital on saturday. this morning he said he cannot imagine doing anything other than what he did and he went on to say thank you to those who remain calm and help each other. he also described the other victim as being very brave. she remains in the hospital in critical condition.
