we got a lot of cloud cover out there. take a look. from the coast around the bay and inland, it has stretched all the way to the inner east bay so areas like livermore and concord waking up partly cloudy and mostly cloudy into the south bay. it is going to peel back and we'll be mostly sun in a way from the coastline. but the temperatures are coming down. by 9:00, 10:00, expect to pull back. it will be partly sunny and mostly crowd i didn't think -- cloudy the entire day. the temperatures expected today, 56 in pacifica and 67 in san francisco and low to mid- 70s in oakland and hayward. many areas dropped off dramatically yesterday. we'll continue the trend as we get into the afternoon with the inland areas. upper 80s to livermore and low 80s expected. the cooldown continued for the

back end of your weekend. then the temperatures will be back up. i'll show you that in the extended forecast coming up. we have breaking news. contra costa county firefighters are investigating an early morning fire. leigh martinez is there now. >> reporter: a family of four that included two young children, they were home and asleep in the upstairs unit. but fortunately, they all made it out okay. unfortunately, they will not be able to go back home tonight because of the damage to their home here. the firefighters were called out at 5:28 a.m. to a commercial structure fire. a multi-unit apartment building had the fire spreading quickly. it started from an ac unit from the back room and quickly consumed the room. the adults reported to smoke

and fire. the fire crew has arrived. and surrounding the units had to be evacuated. they did have the fire knocked down in 20 minutes. back out here live, we can see that the fire crews are wrapping up. they are in the mopup mode right now. the damage is so severe to the upper unit, that the family will not be able to go back tonight. the red cross will help them with the temporary shelter. senate judiciary chairman chuck grassily agreed late friday night to allow the woman that is accusing judge brett kavanaugh of sexual assault more time when to testify before the congress. senate republicans said yesterday was the deadline for dr. ford to decide. but chairman chuck grassily gave her and extension. he wants to hear professor christine blasey ford's testimony. he said with all the extensions

to 2004. investigators linked the cases through dna. but till now they were unable to match them to a suspect. like in the golden gate skiller case. they got a break it a genealogy company. they entered the dna in a free genealogy website and got a hit. >> for over 27 years, the individual that came to be known as the north cal rapist victimized at least ten women in northern california. >> what i want to share with the world is that the real life boggy man showed up to my house. and i still have a joyful life.

trend for the first week of fall. we'll have the details coming up. that's right. it is the first day of fall. and you get a chance to enjoy the great outdoors too. today is national land day admission fees are waived at public parks and forests and woods. this is the 25th year of the public lands day held on the fourth saturday in september. national park service said it celebrates the connection between the people and the green space in our community. as part of the public lands day, a clean up is am held at being held. and volunteers are asked to meet at the mitchell canyon staging and they will spread out the different areas of the park before returning for a group lunch. also happening today,

several protests are planned outside the wells fargo bay area. they say they helped to fund immigration center and projects like the excel pipeline. they are going to try to convince foam close their accounts. there are demonstrations planned in several areas. in contra costa county, two high school football players were hospitalized overnight with what 1 being described as traumatic injuries. the players hurt their heads during a game last night at heritage high of the brentwood. and the other player suffered a back injury at freedom high school in oakley. the chief tells the east bay times that both players rushed to the medical center in walnut creek. neither of their names or conditions are being released at this time. and the chief ted is very rare to have -- said it is very rare to have two high school

richmond. oakland 72. upper 80s in danville. and that will be one of the warmer spots. 80 in san jose. a mild 72 in saint that crews with partly cloudy -- santa cruz, 72. half moon bay, mostly cloudy for the entire day. this is the extended as we get into lake tahoe. very ville in the over -- chilly in the overnight hours. and then gusty conditions today and tomorrow. here at home, we're looking at a nice forecast. the temperatures cooler for the back end of the weekend. low to mid- 60s expect add along the coastline and we'll go low 70s along the bay and low to mid- 80s for the inland communities. but it doesn't really last by monday.

good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the people were at home and the fire broke out and the family was able to get out unharmed from the upstairs unit. you see the windows are blackened out there. they were not able to return home because of the fire damage. this is 20 a.m. this is a multi-unit apartment. the fire started from an ac unit and it quickly consumes the room. the smoke and fire and were reported and they made it out

a new study said that more teenagers or vaping with the vaping devices. vaping among 7th, 11th graders has more than doubled in the past two years. the largest increase is among 11th graders.

headwinds going at more than 120 miles per hour. canadian prime minister justin trudeau issued a statement on twitter urging citizens to check in on people who might need extra help. do not disturb the sharks. that's what officials from the greater fair lawn's national marine sanctuary are saying. great white sharks are expected to make their annual appearance off the san francisco coast this fall. wildlife watchers and other water sports enthusiasts avoid bothering the sharks. between september and november is when the sharks will feet on seals and sea lines along the shoreline. wildlife watchers who use food and other lures to draw sharks near during boats disrupt how they normally feet. a group of students is safe with their family this morning. they had a frightening trip on board a bus. it caught fire. the bus was carrying three adults and seven students through the california school for the deaf in fremont.

floodwaters are bridging a dam in wilmington, north carolina. that dam was holding back water from a power plant. but as a result of the breach, there is now the threat of toxic coal ash flowing into the cape fear river. in fact, a spokeswoman for the york -- local utility says it was possible that ash was escaping from the facility and flowing into the river. they are moving large stones into place to try to plug in homes -- holds. -- plug in holes. posted 60,000 homes and businesses are still without power in many communities still flooded. say it could take weeks before electricity is restored. emergency crews also report that they have made nearly 5000 water rescues since florence hits. it is 9:11. a family of four has to find a place to stay after a fire inside their apartment. it started on centennial drive. the fire started from an ac
