in new man this morning, sara zendanom, ktvu news. a search is ongoing for an inmate who escaped from san quentin prison. a video was released by san rafael police. they believe the car jacker walked away from a work crew wednesday night and he's still on the loose this morning. prison officials didn't know he was gone until an inmate head count was taken three and a half hours later. >> something very concerning, it's very uncommon that san rafael has a car jacking so if it's not related to the prison, it's something that we obviously are going to take extremely seriously. >> last year los angeles men doe sa stole a car by pointing a knife at the driver and he led police on a wild six mile chase before he was arrested. he's been in the state prison system for a year and was transferred to san quentin in

april and assigned to a job outside of the secure perimeter of san quentin prison. now to san jose where the family of a woman shot and killed by san jose police is demanding an independent federal investigation into her death. the 24-year old was shot and killed christmas day by police officers. investigators say vas kwez led them on a high speed chase that ended when she crashed and police tried to ram her car into a police car. that's when four police officers opened fire. the police chief says the officers were chasing the wrong car but he is standing by the actions of his officers. >> had the deceased not been driving a stolen vehicle and had not led police on a dangerous high speed chase, crashed the vehicle and did not attempt to get away ramming officers and endangering their life that this shooting and tragedy would not have occurred.

the victim was approached by a hispanic man wearing a white t- shirt and khaki pants. the victim says he similar you hated what looked like a weapon underneath his clothes, demanded her keys and threatened to kill her. it's difficult to see in the video but police believe the car jacker escaped from san quentin the same night. 0. >> we have learned they found the jump suit so it's unknown what he was wearing underneath the jump suit. >> the 21-year old walked away from a work crew at san quentin prison and last seen before 6:00 p.m. wednesday. no one at the prison realized he was missing until a head count conducted three and a half hours later. the suspect is described as five feet, six inches tall and 170 pounds, similar to men doe sa and the vehiclen was a silver toyota rav 4. four.

studies from the infection say unvaccinated children are contributing to the outbreak. the cdc recommends may byes get several shots beginning at two months old. they also recommend adults get a boser shot every ten years. officials are asking the community to help identify possible vacant lots that could be used for housing. the transit stores and jobs, the county lost thousands of homes in the north bay wildfires in october of last year. habitat for humanity plans to open a factory where it will build key parts for prefabricated homes. workers will be able to build walls and floors for 70 prefab homes a year.

hayward. colder in areas like santa rosa where we bottomed out near freezing. 36 at santa rosa. even with your temperatures in the 40s this morning which really isn't too bad, 47 in livermore. the wind feels closer to 40 degrees because the wind chill factor making it feel anywhere from 5-7 degrees cooler than what the temperature reads this morning. high pressure strengthening, that pacific storm will have remaind to the north of us, areas like washington, and oregon and northern california getting in on a bit come early sunday morning. for us, a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures for the afternoon remaining in the upper 50s to near 60. 59 in hayward. 57 expected in antioch. a look at the extended forecast including new year's eve coming up. we continue to follow a developing story in stanislaus county where a community continues to mourn the death of a police corporal. the search for the culler still

police believe the escaped inmate is the man that car jacked that woman based on description of him and the fact that home depot is in such close proximity to san quentin. police were calld to the home depot at 9:17 p.m. wednesday. the victim was approached by a hispanic man wearing a white t- shirt and khaki pants. it's difficult to see in the surveillance video but police believe it's the possible man who escaped from san quentin that same night. >> there's a type of weapon or gun through his t-shirt demanded the keys from her, threatened to kill her and told her not to call the police or that he would shoot her. once she handed over the quays he fled the scene in her vehicle.
