marriage. legal experts emphasized. what was leaked this week is a draft document from the u. s supreme court, not a final ruling if the underlying legal arguments remain in the majority opinion, it could represent a fundamental shift in the courts, interpretations. professor say. justice samuel alito draft says rights are only protected if they're mentioned in the constitution. legal experts point out. there are many rights that have been protected by the court that don't meet that criteria. the right to marry the right to procreate the right to custody of one's children the right to keep the family together. the right appearance, control the upbringing, their children the right to purchase and use contraceptives. legal experts say the past courts have seen those rights and others as protected under the 14th amendment, with the right to privacy experts say justice alito's opinion would leave abortion up to state and federal lawmakers. meanwhile more fencing is going up around the supreme court building ahead of more expected protests this

here in the bay area here in santa clara county, the public health officer says that they saw a big jump in cases because of macron. they had a brief break from that. and now for the last month cases and transmission rates. have been rising again. dr monica gandhi, an infectious disease expert at ucsf says we're seeing this rise because in omicron sub variant is here, the most contagious variant we've seen so far and more people are gathering now. but even though cases are rising , this variant isn't more severe , so hospitalizations are still low. dr gandhi credits the vaccines for that. these vaccines and boosters work really, really well, and so it's really the risk of people to get sick with covid and i mean sick , hospitalized with covid after your three shot series is being over 75 with four comorbidities , according to a large cdc study. she says. everyone has to

bridges and that would be the richmond san rafael bridge. it is getting a little bit more crowded, getting over to marine , and by the way, we don't mention marina lot unless there's a problem. and so when you don't hear marine a lot that's good news for you. marine drivers driving, let's say from petaluma into marin county or sonoma into marin county and then down south looks alright this morning. can see. traffic here at the bay bridge is a little bit slow at the toll plaza and highway four is beginning to slow down. if you are driving, let's say between the bridges here. it doesn't look all that bad. between the vallejo area in berkeley, heading out to the mcarthur maze at 7 18. what about today's weather? let's bring steve back in. all right, sal. thank you, sir. we will begin in the pacific northwest. that's where they core of this system is we're getting the tail end of it. but another round of rain, rain rain for seattle and portland's and this is an actually an impressive pattern and system for them, especially seattle national weather service seattle last time, seattle had five days in a row with highs 55

into the death of mario gonzalez found there's not enough evidence to charge the police officers involved of any wrongdoing. but the report says the officers acted consistent with police department policies . gonzalez died after three officers restrained him last year. the report comes after the district attorney decided not to charge the officers. the coroner ruled the death was a homicide and mario gonzalez died from methamphetamine. along with the stress of being restrained, however, in autopsy commissioned by the family's lawyer and found he died from restrained at victoria you are now suing the city and the police officers in federal court. police will soon be installing cameras inside 40 police vehicles. officials say the move is meant to help increase transparency and policing. the cameras will show what's happening in front of a police car and can also record what's happening in the back seat. the cameras will also record traffic stops, vehicle pursuits and the transport of anyone under arrest. the

an hour. yikes that's pretty slow and eighties, also slow between hercules and richmond. that's more like a 20 mile an hour drive, but still we have some slow traffic. and then when you get to the south bay, we're beginning to see some of that slow traffic we mentioned on 101 and 85 going from east to west. 7 32. let's go back to the desk. alright sal. thank you. will parents and students in san francisco at one middle school there say that they want the school district to take action to stop violent behavior that's happening on campus. one student suffered life threatening injuries during a fight that happened just this week. ktvu sally rasmus live at everett middle school here to explain what we know about what happened. ali. 13 year old student who was attacked at this school earlier this week. it's still in the hospital with some very serious injuries. we don't know the details about those injuries or why he may have been targeted. but the outcome was apparently so serious that police are involved in police recently met with the 13 year old boy's family to discuss this

san francisco unified school district would only confirm that there was some sort of altercation between the 13 year old and another student on the campus this week. the co chair of the schools to and several other parents tell ktvu, though , that this is not an isolated incident. violence on campus has been an ongoing problem all year long in many cases. the victims are latino students who are new to the u. s and speak limited english. now one mom spoke to ktvu through translator, and she explained that her son in a separate incident was beaten by other students twice most recently on friday, and the attack left a cut on his arm. she says the school has still not addressed that problem. is the told me that we are going to have a meeting with another parents, then you know with kids , and until now we haven't had that meeting. sf usd said in a written statement quote when a serious incident occurs, we attend to the immediate safety of the students involved, communicate directly with their families and determine the

appropriate supports interventions in consequences, end quote, but again, several parents tell us that that kind of follow through just isn't happening now. students and parents tell ktvu. at least nine teachers have left the school in the past year and that the principle is planning to resign at the end of this academic year. live in san francisco. ali rasmus ktvu. box two news. thank you. one man is being held in san jose after a standoff with police at an elementary school. police say he was armed with a knife when he walked down to the empire gardens elementary school campus late yesterday morning. some 300 children were attending class there. authorities say the man appeared to be homeless and was suffering from a mental health episode. the school was put on lockdown while police crisis specialists eventually convinced him to surrender. that's why we have the resources here. that's why we have the people. that's why we have our mobile crisis assessment team. we don't want to force a confrontation. we want a peaceful resolution. the standoff ended peacefully after

city give financial help to women who want to come to san francisco for an abortion. supervisor ronan says her proposal for what she calls safe abortion safe abortion access would pay for travel accommodations and safe access to abortion services for women who live in anti abortion states. board members are looking into how the program would work and how much it could cost. i am positive that we would have the support of the board in the mayor's office. you know, san francisco is staunchly pro choice city. we believe that abortion is healthcare, and we know that this is something that the majority of the city will be behind. if supervisor ronan's proposal is approved by the board, san francisco would pay the travel costs for 1000 women to come to san francisco for abortions. a new analysis shows that the supreme court does overturn roe versus wade, california could become home to nearly 30% of all abortion clinics in the united states. 26 states are expected to implement

bans or tougher restrictions on abortions if the high court overturns roe v. wade. the san francisco chronicle reports. there are more than 200 clinics in those states that could then close. if that happens, california would go from having 21% of all clinics to 29% time is 7 37 new this morning. one person in oakland has been displaced after a large overnight rv fired i want to show you. video from the citizen app shows those flames really shooting up from the rb near east 12th and 19th avenue, not far from interstate 80. no one was hurt. but the buyer department confirmed the person who lived there now has nowhere to go. the cause of the fire is under investigation. in the state of california is investing $5 million in a bill for supporting public safety on tribal lands. for too long, too many native american families have been torn apart. too many innocent lives have been lost. there has been too much pain.

along the castro and mission district border. well parents have students at everett middle school. tell us the bottom line is they're afraid to send their kids to school here. they say violence on campus has been an ongoing problem all academic year. the latest conflict earlier this week sent a 13 year old student to the hospital with life threatening injuries. the san francisco unified school district would only confirm that the 13 year old was in an altercation. with another student on campus monday afternoon, the co chair of the school's pta and several other parents tell ktvu. this is not an isolated incident, however. one mother told us her son has been beaten up twice, most recently on friday and left him wi on his arm. and in another incident, a 12 yol boy was beaten this week by another student and suffered a swollen eye. parents say many of the attacks appeared to involve kids bullying latino students who are new to the country and speak very little english was really sad because i have been advocating for help and support
