celebrate cinco de mayo. there's a lot of people out here celebrating. it's like even though they're not a hispanic, you know, it's like appreciating the support, you know for my people. the streets were packed with cars and people in a celebration that began shortly after dusk and continued into early this morning. however many downtown restaurant owners say business was still slow compared to past cinco de mayo celebrations. due mostly to the pandemic. the year before 2000 and 19 by this time was back. people were lying up. the san jose police department had more than 200 officers patrolling the downtown area. that was in an effort to make sure that this was a safe cinco de mayo celebration. there was some brief side shows and reports of public drunkenness, but it's not clear if police made any arrests. 408 many parts of texas and oklahoma, bracing for more dangerous springtime storms as weekend have already been several powerful tornadoes, damaging businesses, homes and schools. the governor of

time is now for 14 happening today, a court hearing will be held in san francisco for a police officer accused of shooting and killing an unarmed black man five years ago. officer chris samayoa is facing charges including manslaughter. prosecutors say police were chasing kiet o'neill thinking he was involved in a robbery and carjacking. when o'neill got out of the stolen van and ran past a police car, samayoa shot him. aoa had only been on the police job for four days. o'neal's family is calling for supporters to jam and packed the courtroom for this morning's continuance hearing. well tonight. oakland police are also searching for three gunmen caught on camera robbing a restaurant owner and his friends ktvu crime reporter henry lee says the owner tried to pull out his own gun to defend himself. surveillance video shows several armed men converging on three victims in the parking lot in oakland's diamond district. everything

befd mayor libby chappelle unveiled the latest program in oakland's effort to bridge the digital divide among school kids shop says the city is committed to making sure all 50,000 oakland public school students have access to a computer and the internet at home. today the mayor will announce a new $12 million program is designed to help students from all economic backgrounds stay connected. concord high school is now turning to the public for help as it searches for a new school mascot. many teachers, students and parents say it's time to get rid of the school's current mascot. the minutemen. now it's named after fighters from the american revolutionary war with a logo showing a minute man holding a gun. the school is now inviting the community to respond to an online poll to change the mascot to possibly the concorde. crocodiles coyotes

overturning roe v. wade. huge security fence now surrounds the court, but protests won't just be at the court. one group is planning protests. outside the homes of six of the justices as well. the u. s senate will vote next week on a federal law that would protect abortion rights that bill most likely will not get the 60 votes needed to prevent a republican filibuster . democrats want senators of both parties to go on the record before the midterm elections. next week, the american people will see crystal clear. that when given the chance to right this wrong the republican party will either side with the extremists who want to ban abortion without exceptions. or side with women. some lawmakers now want new protections for the supreme court justices ahead of this weekend's potential protests. chief justice john roberts and his first public appearance since the lake called it quote absolutely appalling.

police say one person was shot during a sideshow in the roseland neighborhood. at one point police estimate there were more than 700 people there, watching that sideshow. investigators say the victim was brought to a nearby hospital after being shot multiple times , he says he they say that he is in critical condition and is expected to survive. bay area police were everywhere last night, keeping an eye out for single dimaio celebrations and one driver on the peninsula was seen on social media speeding away from a dui checkpoint. turn your girl. this happened in san carlos. you saw the driver after pulling up to the checkpoint, backing up into a ditch, turned his car around and then sped away going in the wrong direction. we still don't know if san mateo county sheriff's deputies caught that driver, the sheriff's office said they did arrest one driver for d u i and cited dozens more for infractions like driving with a suspended license. with

thousands of people in downtown san jose filled the streets last night celebrating cinco de mayo. there's a lot of people out here celebrating. it's like even though they're not a hispanic, you know, it's like appreciating the support, you know for my people. streets were packed with cars and pedestrians, a celebration that began shortly after dusk and continued into early this morning. however, many downtown restaurant owners say business was still slow compared to the past cinco de mayo celebrations, mainly because of the pandemic. the year before 2000 and 19. by this time was back. people were lying up. the san jose police department had more than 200 officers patrolling the downtown area to make sure that it was a safe cinco de mayo celebration. there were some side joe's, and there were reports of public drunkenness. we're not sure if any arrests were made. we are learning more about the east bay middle school teacher who is now

facing charges for inappropriate behavior with his students. ktvu sally rasmus joins us now, with the details and concerns there could be other victims, ali we'll pay him. 60 year old dean walker taught at pine hollow middle school in concord. police arrested him yesterday morning and booked him into contra costa county jail. walker faces charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. now these are pictures posted on his facebook page. they show walker rafting and spending time with his family. the 7th and 8th grade robotics teachers linked his social media to his official classroom page at concord's pine hollow middle school. investigators say the victims in this case are students at a school where walker worked as a teacher. just something that we will not tolerate and that we take extremely serious. he was placed on leave in march. that's when we that's when we got the report this year that you know that there was some students who were feeling uncomfortable by him. my dad. a unified school district superintendent adam clark says the district

already launching a team of social workers and civilians to respond to some mental health and homelessness calls. and last night, the city council voted to support the mayor's plan to create a new community safety department. made up of city employees running that effort in municipal water district is rolling back some of the restrictions declaring an end to its water emergency declaration. the water district. seven reservoirs are now 90% full due to the heavy rain in the area late last year and early this year. last fall, the reservoirs were down to just 33% of capacity. now the water district says it is lifting some of the restrictions it put in place last year while keeping some of the others. the board did also decide to adopt some of those temporary restrictions that have been in place last year into our permanent and ongoing water rules. use of outdoor sprinklers now permanently limited to two

two, the alameda county is now being sued over its pandemic related eviction moratorium. the california apartment association filed the lawsuit in federal court. claiming the moratorium violates the constitutional rights of rental property owners . alameda county approved the eviction moratorium during the early days of the pandemic in april of 2020 to help renders who were having economic hard, jim the statewide eviction moratorium ended last month where anyone who did not apply for rental help. homeless agencies around the country report an increase in seniors living on the street, a study

college needs to make up for about a $7 million budget gap in february, 2021 the score determined it would consider layoffs but so far about 50 teachers have been notified there on the chopping block. some of those teachers have been at the school for more than 10 years, most of which have been hired within the last five years. the union says more than 150 full and part time faculty could also be at risk of losing their jobs. after tonight's vote so far, the teachers protesting say, ultimately laying off any teachers would cause harm to the nearly 20 20,000 students who attend this school. there have been no no negotiations. that's part of the problem. trustees say it's not their place to negotiate. the chancellor is convinced that his way is the only way and so we haven't been at the negotiating table over this. according to a report from the state's fiscal crisis and management assistance team the college has seen about a 35%
