traffic. they got it out of the way, so that's good news for them. traffic is also looking pretty good around the bay area as you look at the paper, bridget is nice and light at the toll plaza four. oh, one. let's go back to the headlines. more congressional hearings are scheduled tomorrow on capitol hill about the findings of the investigation into the riot at the u. s capitol building. several longtime allies of former president trump testified before a congressional committee. they repeatedly told the former president that the 2020 election results showing he had lost were legitimate, but he refused to listen to them. reporter madeline rivera takes a look at the new details from yesterday's hearing. some of former president trump's closest advisers, telling the house select committee they tried to convince him that voter fraud claims were baseless but say he was detached from reality. of the night of the weeks following the 2020 election. several advisers inside the trump campaign tried to urge then

president donald trump that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud. there was an avalanche of all these allegations of fraud that built up over a number of days, and it was like playing lack, um all because something would come out one day and then the next day it would be another issue advisor after advisor, giving similar testimony before the house january 6th committee monday. he said. there's lots of fraud going on here with him flat out that much of the information he's getting his false. and or just not supported by the evidence, the committee saying president trump knew he lost but declared victory and spread false claims of fraud anyway. frankly we did win this election something former advisor jason miller said. trump was urged to do by an allegedly drunk rudy giuliani in the mirror was definitely intoxicated their suggestions. bye. probably was mayor giuliani to go and declare victory. the investigation aims to show trump knowingly used phony evidence to push a stolen election theory. but critics say these hearings are nothing more

than partisan politics. we should have a reliable summary of what happened. but you're not going to get it. if you've convinced people that it's just a partisan exercise, which is what i think they've done here. hearings are scheduled for this week wednesdays, focusing on trump's attempts to quote corrupt the department of justice and thursday on the pressure campaign on former vice president mike pence and washington matthis rivera fox news thank you, madeline. south bay congresswoman zoloft grin is accusing the trump campaign of raising hundreds of millions of dollars from supporters only to use a small amount of it on legal action. now the congressional committee presented evidence that the trump campaign repeatedly sent emails to supporters asking them to donate to what it claimed was the official election defense fund. the committee says there was no such fun and more than $250 million was collected. most of it went to a trump political action committee. the big lie was also a big rip off. the

count at the capitol on january 6th 2021 federal judges listening to testimony without a jury after the c freed's waived their rights to a jury trial. the judge will decide the outcome of their cases this morning. futures on wall street are up after that tough day on the markets. yesterday the dow dropped 876 points down nearly 3% the nasdaq plunging more than 4.5% 530 points there back below 11,000 for the first time, quite some time. the s and p 500 lower by 151 points and officially in a bear market for the s and p down more than 20% below its most recent record high that was set in january. the federal reserve meeting is today and tomorrow. now the expectation is for at least a half of a percent increase for interest rates. some economists speculate that at the end of the meeting, the federal raise rates by three quarters of a point to try to rein in inflation. high inflation squeezes income

purchasing power, and that's bad news for the economy and ultimately corporate profits, and at the same time, it adds to the pressure on the federal reserve to become more aggressive and raising interest rates. that could slow inflation , but it could also continue to drive the market lower. there's concerns about a recession this morning, president biden will address the economy and rising inflation, in remarks to a union organizers meeting in philadelphia. our time now 407 with the warriors beat the boston celtics last night one oh, 4 to 94. now they're just one win away from winning another nba championship. the warriors now lead the celtics in the championship finals, three games to two. last night was different from other games in the series. steph curry did not dominate that usual. his teammates, though, picked up the slack and andrew wiggins right here with spectacular 26 points. 13 rebounds. but the shot of the

(police radio call) (sirens) (news report) (sirens) (news report) team the san francisco zoo is now the new home of three parrots that were recently smuggled into the u. s fish and wildlife service, says the yellow crown amazon parrots were only 10 weeks old when federal agents confiscated them. they're native to central and south america. they have the unique ability to mimic human voices. several recent incidents that targeted the lgbtq community has san francisco police on high alert, leading up to the additional pride events in the city. officers tell ktvu is christien kafton that right now there are no credible or specific threats targeting the city. the lgbtq community says

there has been a disturbing increase in threats of violence targeting them recently, more than 30. proud boys arrested incurred d'alene, idaho, one suspicion they were planning a riot at a nearby pride celebration. police in the east are investigating members of the same organization for reportedly disrupting a drag queen reading our in san lorenzo at a library in san francisco. authorities are investigating a threat against state senator scott wiener. the center, saying he's received thousands of threats over the years. but this was different. this one was quite aggressive. and, um, uh, you know it and threatened the bomb. um and so we took it seriously and called the police and the police came out and checked everything out. and it all checked out. um, but it was definitely scary. lgbtq community groups say the incidents are more than just threats and intimidation. they crossed the line to domestic terrorism. they want to silence our community. um they are

afraid of our community and therefore, um, use. uh terrorism to try to invoke fear in our community, san francisco police say with pride activities ramping up in the city. there are still no credible or specific threats to the city's lgbtq community in constant communication with our state, local and federal partners to ensure the safety of everyone in the city of san francisco. um and our staff our department will be staffed to handle all calls for service throughout pride month. members of the lgbtq community say these recent events are just efforts to force them back into the closet, but they say they will not be intimidated. we're not going away. we're going to be proud and help this month and we're not going anywhere. san francisco police tell me they are on the lookout for chatter or threats, but they need the communities helped to let them know about any suspicious activities around pride celebrations. the rule of thumb , as always, is, if you see

something, say something in san francisco. christien kafton ktvu , fox two news. all right, thank you. christian the california state parks week kicks off today with events honoring the native american people who lived all over the state deal, and this week's event will take place at bay area state parks, culminating on saturday with the volunteered there. oh, my god! oh rocket, then. yellowstone national park is one national park. there will be off limits for the time being. all of the entrances to the park are closed . visitors were evacuated after heavy rains led to flooding and rockslides. many roads and at least one bridge were hit by flood waters. one yellowstone national park official predicts the northern loop of the park will be closed for quite a while . trans is working to clean up mudslides that shut down state route 70 in butte county. take a look at the map. that's the area

where the highway is actually closed because of mudslides in the feather river canyon. caltrans says several people had to be rescued after their vehicles were trapped between the slides. no one was hurt. but the slides happened in the dixie fire burn scar area during some rain on sunday, the chp says it hopes to get that highway reopened by friday. can we look live at the sky? you're up early , like us. if you think the moon looks extremely bright this morning. well, you're right. the full moon in june, is called the strawberry moon. this year. it's a super moon, where the moon's orbit is closest to the earth. this morning you heard steve at 4 52 am the moon will be just over 222,000 miles from earth. 16,000 miles closer than average . so this morning, the moon will look brighter and bigger than usual. and i heard this morning . or maybe it was yesterday afternoon anyway from szabo. possibly um, this evening, steve

surprised if the final outcome is dramatically different from what we saw in the draft opinion will be there for the women. rather states. we will stand up. we will fight back children and , of course, the white house is already taking action in anticipation of abortion rights being overturned. today. vice president kamala harris is set to meet with constitutional law. privacy and tech experts to discuss what the impact of overturning roe versus wade could be and prepare for that possible outcome. our time is 4 24. the supreme court has ruled that undocumented immigrants can be detained longer than six months while waiting to be deported. kind of ruling released yesterday, the supreme court reversed a decision that allowed immigrants have request to be released after orders. thd for months or even years before their cases are resolved. a

woman who wrote the essay called how to murder your husband was sentenced to life in prison for killing her husband, nancy crampton. brophy was convicted last month of second degree murder in the june 2018 death of her husband, daniel, and he was gunned down at the culinary school where he taught cooking classes. prosecutors argued that money was the main motivator. court documents showed the couple took out life insurance policies shortly before her husband's death. time is worth 25 to trial against former theranos executive sunny ball wani will have to wait another week before the closing arguments can begin. closing arguments in the criminal fraud trial were supposed to begin today, but they have been pushed back to next tuesday. no reason was given for that delay. but ronnie is facing 10 counts of fraud and two counts of conspiracy. it's related to his role in that failed blood testing company thoroughness. theranos founder and his former girlfriend, elizabeth holmes, was convicted of the same

charges back in january. we are learning more about the discrimination lawsuit that was settled between google and more than 100, female employees that work for the company, holly pieces, one of four women who filed that class action lawsuit against google for pay discrimination back in 2017. she says they wanted google to change its practices. evaluate women's work performance is fairly and pay women equally to men. we know that women. and women minorities. um get paid substantially less than men across the board, and i think companies need to be on notice that it's not okay. after agreeing to settle the case, google released a statement denying any wrongdoing that settling the case was in the best interest of everyone involved. the settlement still has to be approved by san francisco superior court. start our time is 4 26 in san francisco giants, with their fans have an easier time going

the car and get inside. the car's owner rushed back to the vehicle opened the door. the thief then drove off, dragging the owner a short distance. the victim suffered several cuts and scrapes. police are still looking for the thief and the vehicle. our time is 4 32 investigators in lafayette still searching for two people who they say assaulted and robbed a letter carrier while she was making her rounds. ktvu henry lee explains why the postal worker was probably targeted. in an unprovoked attack of a letter carrier making her rounds in lafayette letter carrier was assaulted and robbed on her route around 12 30 this afternoon. it happened outside this office building on camino diablo off highway 24 in lafayette. i have learned that the victim was aently followed here by two men, at least one of whom was armed with a gun. she was hit in the head with the weapon was very shocked and traumatized. and she had blood all over his shirt. and so

the ambulance came and took her away. carrier was taken to hospital for injuries that were not life threatening. chris finn works in the building. he says the victim regularly delivers mail to the conflicts on mondays . very nice woman. did have our route for a while and ah, she's just seemed very nice. witnesses say they were after her postal keys. thieves can use these master keys to access mailboxes to steal mail. this is unacceptable way to treat people. postal workers work hard. um and we want that message to get out there. there's a $50,000 reward for tips in the case. anyone with information is asked to call us postal inspectors in lafayette, henry lee ktvu fox studios, henry thank you, thomas for 33 happening today. a rally this morning demanding justice in the killing of a man from thailand last year. 84 year old vita return a party. died after being attacked in january last year. organizers with the rally say his death launched the stop

asian hate movement will be showing support for his family at nine o'clock this morning, right outside the san francisco hall of justice rally will take place shortly before the preliminary hearing for antoine watson, who's charged with the death of return to #### and he's also charged with elder abused well, the white house is taking the first step towards creating a national museum of asian pacific american history and culture. president biden signed the legislation. it creates a commission to begin the process of building that museum in washington, d. c the president says the museum with recognize the contributions of asian americans, native hawaiians and pacific islanders and says it's long overdue. so many people from around the world who will one day walk in this museum and better understand the idea of america. the only nation. the only nation in my view that can be defined in one single word

possibilities. now. the first step is a study to determine the overview of the proposed museum. where would you be built and decide if it should become a part of the smithsonian institution? there's no timeline yet on when it could actually open. white house press secretary karine jean pierre says president biden plans to run for re election in 2024, now the press secretary, was asked about biden's re election plans after a new york times article raised questions about whether he should run again. 50 democratic party officials were interviewed for the article, and some raised concerns about biden's leadership his age and his capability to campaign against possibly former president donald trump a second time. he has. and first of all. let's let's reset for a second. i cannot talk about elections. i cannot be a political analyst from here or you know, or the midterms or anything like that, or including 2024. the president , as you know, has been asked

that question many times, and he has answered it. his answer has been pretty simple. which is yes, he's running for reelection. i can't say more than that. biden who is 79 years old would be 86 at the second end of his second term time is 4 36 happening today, the berkeley city council will debate a proposal to tax vacant homes. under the proposed plan, the owners of vacant properties with more than two units would be taxed up to $6000 a year depending on the sides of the property. the goal is to encourage landlords to find renters by either improving the property or lowering the rate. maria really busily building housing in berkeley. but we need solutions right now for something that was considered incredibly unfair that there are people that own property that rental property that they are not renting out. so i look at it as a piece of the puzzle. now the tax would not apply to single family rental homes or two duplexes. if it's approved,

the measure could appear on the november ballot. berkeley right now has 4700 vacant units. and a group that wants to reopen jfk drive two cars hopes to put that measure on the ballot in san francisco members want to overturn the board of supervisors decision back in april to make that road in golden gate park permanently car free. their proposal is called access to all. it still has to be certified before supporters can start collecting the 9000 signatures needed to put the measure on the november ballot. the california legislature sent governor newsom it state budget plan. the $300 billion proposal approved yesterday includes many spending priorities included in the governor's plan on issues ranging from tax rebates, immigration and healthcare. the negotiations between the governor and legislature leaders will continue, but state lawmakers are required to approve their own budget plan before tomorrow's june. 15th deadline time is 4 37. amazon

needle in a haystack. few clues from the crime were found in this field. so right now we're driving adjacent to the field where jane doe was located in 1985, this remote wetlands area of newark off mowry avenue became a homicide scene right out here. back then hunters found something that was badly decomposed, nearly unrecognizable. the banning of a woman in her early thirties shot and killed to this day who she is, remains a mystery. unfortunately, there was no identification, no purse found. um nothing that would immediately identify and give us a name. detective todd no be reopened this cold case a few years ago, while jane doe's body was cremated. polaroid pictures of her skull were in the evidence file, along with a clump of ruthless hair. this led investigators to austria labs in santa cruz. scientists now have

the ability to break down and extract dna from even the tiniest strand. advanced computers are used to find patterns in sequence that dna from their profiles are built a sort of road map. it feels really good. to be honest, it feels like um, you know, we're doing some good in the world and that's really what we're setting out to do here. but the work is far from over. genealogists are then tasked with trying to tag dna matches. just specific people. our job is to build out their family trees and look for connections between those family trees. karen binder is with dna dope project, a new initiative that uses genetic information to i, d. john and jane does. the newark police department partnered with the nonprofit whose volunteers have solved dozens of cases through genetic genealogy. the same methods were used to find the golden state killer uploading dna to online tools that help pinpoint common segments of dna leading to a

specific ancestor. they helped lead me down that path of who? the mother of our jane doe might be but then potential mother, mary ann marie richardson is no longer living. she was from a small town in missouri near the kansas border, far from california. interviews with family members led the detective to texas and ruth ellis, who may be related to jane doe. well, that's craziest thing i ever heard of. i don't know anybody in california. adopted when she was only a month old ellis agreed to provide her dna. unlike traditional tests with dozens of dna markers, genealogists say new dna tests have hundreds of thousands of markers. these tests are very, very advanced and can predict relationships with much more accuracy and much farther than a traditional dna test. ellis's tests showed she was a match potential half sister to jane doe. of course. i didn't know

her didn't know she existed. so it was kind of just the strangest thing you know, i was amazed. i just couldn't believe it, but it was true. because the dna proved it. investigators estimate this all happened in the late 19 forties, so far as searched through adoption records has come up empty, and it seems no one ever reported her missing. instead federal records show jane doe listed as one of the 2800 unidentified persons cases in california and one of 14,000 unsolved cases nationwide. we might be losing people that knew her. and that's that's the difficult part is just time passing determined. nobody fell back on those photos of her skull and enlisted help from forensic imaging specialist jorge molina with the texas department of public safety school serves as sort of a map for the face using the pictures , molina created a three d model. here are the results. two

new pictures of what jane doe might have looked like in 1985, and that's really all we're trying to do is create an image that can trigger recognition from the public. he had no knowledge ellis or her connection to jane doe, and when she saw those drawings oh, my gosh, she looks like i did when i was younger, much younger. she also had a lot of characteristics special. kind of a long face and a pointed chin and of my, um are birth mothers . that was the confirmation for me that wow, this reconstruction is a spitting image of her. which tells me familial. we're on the right track as well. but even with the forensic advancements, her name is still not known. neither are the circumstances surrounding who murdered her. why and how she ended up in the newark marshlands. once we put that name to her that will lead me to maybe where she worked. who her

months ago, we reported on the problem encountered by puerto cork, ktvu tom vacar talked with the ceo who says the situation has not improved. napa support of cork is one of the world's largest suppliers of corks for the north american wine industry , importing many cork filled containers from portugal to the port of oakland, but supply chain issues continue to plague this and all other industries situation has not improved. it's actually gotten worse. that's forced porter cork to ship to the east coast and then truck the containers to napa, which is a drastically increased our costs, but we're in the peak of our business before the pandemic wrecked the worldwide supply chain puerto cork would order and receive a container in about seven weeks. by last month, seven weeks had climbed to 16 weeks. today, it's 17 weeks and growing before the congestion. puerto cork paid about $2500 in shipping from portugal per container today. the cost,

24 jose. police say security guard trying to protect a woman during a domestic dispute was shot and killed when he tried to intervene, detectives say after the suspect killed the security guard. he shot and killed the mother of their six children, then turned the gun on himself. it happened in the parking lot of the crescent village apartment complex in north san jose sunday morning. neighbors say they were startled to hear the gunshots. that was pretty afraid, honestly, to kind of shaken. seems like a very random act, and that's not something you want to see any day, but i feel for the victims, of course. investigators say the couple's youngest child is just one years old. the oldest is just 10. the children are now with their

that is now running out and he wants to keep it close. keep it going. according to the mayor's proposal, set to be voted on later today, he is asking to hire for new and permanent positions. these positions would respond with police to calls involving mental health. mayor called the mobile crisis assessment team and they were separate uniforms from police officers and undergo specialized training. the idea comes from a partnership with pd and the santa clara county behavioral services department. mayor sam liccardo says having professional on scene can go a long way. so critically important to have that first person. who reaches somebody who's having a mental health episode. uh to be a person who does not seem threatening someone who's not carrying a gun . somebody who doesn't have a badge in the uniform that can really help the de escalate the situation. the idea of this team was first founded at the end of 2020 under a grant from the u. s department of justice. the mayor

morning, and we have video from the citizen app that shows the original seen about eight miles away. chp releasing more information on this shooting that happened in studio city during a traffic stop. just before eight o'clock last night. investigators say the suspect got out of a white ford fusion and opened fire after some sort of altercation, striking the officer several times before then speeding off and making other way to this apartment complex. the chp says that investigation continues where the officer was shot, and they said the suspect vehicle was spotted outside this van nuys apartment complex, leading them to that huge police presence and swap presence last night. back out here live at this scene. the chp officer who hasn't been named again taken to cedars sinai in critical condition that being upgraded to serious this morning. no official suspect description, but the search for that gunman continues. police believe they know his identity and he is considered armed and dangerous. that's the latest here in this van nuys neighborhood in the san fernando valley. i'm mario ramirez back

to you, pam. mario. thank you. time now, 6 16 police in lafayette wants your help as they search for two men who attacked and robbed a letter carrier. it happened yesterday afternoon, as opposed to worker made around one camino diablo highway 24. witnesses say two men followed the postal worker and then beat her outside of an office building, reportedly at least one of the robbers had a gun. she was very shocked and traumatized. and she had blood all over shirt. and so the ambulance came and took her away. the letter carrier was treated for injuries and is expected to make a full recovery . investigators say the two men may have been after the postal workers keys in order to steal mail. the u. s. postal service is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest with gas prices at record highs . it doesn't look like things are going to change anytime soon. so the oil markets

things unto protesters continue to demonstrate outside the home of the supreme court justices ahead of the expected release of a decision that could overturn roe v. wade justice samuel alito has been the focus of strong criticism for writing the draft of that decision. that was leaked last month. there have been protests by abortion rights advocates. since then, outside the supreme court, and at the home of justice is the senate recently passed a bill to spend more on protection for justices and their families. the final decision could come as soon as tomorrow. if it is overturned. it would leave the country with a patchwork of abortion laws with some red states entirely

you live to the new york stock exchange, and that opening bell this morning, a new economic report released show's producer prices increased nearly 11% from this time last year. the producer price index measures the prices paid to producers for goods and services. the federal reserve likely to take that report into consideration as it begins its two day policy meeting overnight. the futures indicated a much higher opening . then they pulled back to just about flat now looks like latest reading that the dow will infect open up more than 100 points. the numbers coming in. the president will address the economy this morning. ktvu is ali rasmus joins us now with more on that and look at the numbers and dave. the dow and the nasdaq were relatively flat in futures trading this morning. now that the markets are officially open, you can see they're sticking with that trend. for now, the dow is up about 100 points today. in tomorrow, the federal reserve is

going to meet and that's what led to a lot of turbulence in the market. this follows a big drop in the markets yesterday, with the dow dropping more than 800 points, the nasdaq two and the s and p 500, now officially in a bear market. again what's weighing the market the possibility of an interest rate hike. the federal reserve will meet today and tomorrow in the expectation is that they will raise interest rates at least a half a point, possibly as much as three quarters of a point. federal reserve chair, jerome powell has said in recent weeks publicly that the priority is reigning in inflation, even if that means a slowdown in the economy. high inflation squeezes income purchasing power, and that's bad news for the economy and ultimately corporate profits , and at the same time, it adds to the pressure on the federal reserve to become more aggressive and raising interest rates. as we just mentioned inflation at its highest rate in 40 years. the possibility of a recession has many bay area tech companies tightening their belts

the video. it shows the car thief dragging the owner of the car and oakland's chinatown near eighth and jackson. you can see someone walking up to the car get inside, the car's owner rushes back to the car and opens the door that carthy then drives away, dragging the owner a short distance. the victim suffered cuts and scrapes. the police are still out there searching for the thief and that stolen car police in san jose, say a security guard trying to protect a woman during a domestic dispute was shot and killed when he tried to intervene. detectives a after the suspect killed that security guard he shot and killed the mother of their six children, then turned the gun on himself has happened in the parking lot of the crescent village apartment complex in north san jose sunday morning. neighbors say they were stunned to hear the gunshots. i was pretty afraid honestly, to kind of shaken. seems like a very random act, and that's not something you want to see any
