the toll plaza right now, and we can show you that conditions are very good, barely any cars out there on the road. you can see a little bit that fog in the distance over those east bay hills. but check out this picture of the golden gate bridge. this is where the chp for another day has issued a fog advisory because of low visibility here, so something to be aware of this morning for one, let's go back to the desk. all right. thank you. ali happening. today s f general and the san francisco aids foundation will be holding an online town hall on monkey pox. now long lines started forming in san francisco yesterday for the vaccine. ktvu is jana katsuyama breaks down how people can get information about the disease and access to those vaccines. the line to get monkey pox vaccine stretched outside zuckerberg san francisco general hospital monday have a little bit of inkling that it was going to be crowded, but i mean yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. general staff say they will have a walk in clinic all week for

people who have been exposed to monkeypox have been to an event , whereas notified after the fact that there were reported cases so kind of anxious about that. the virus, which has a characteristic rash is transmitted through close contact or betting. on monday, the cdc posted a map showing 39 states plus the district of columbia and hawaii as well as puerto rico with reported monkeypox cases. the map shows california had some 148 cases. sf general says they've received 2308 monkey pox vaccine doses in the past week, but many people say that is not enough. we need to get ahead of it as soon as possible, honey mahogany, one of the co sponsors, says tuesday's town hall meeting is important to get accurate information out to the public. and there should be more community meeting, she says, and efforts to secure more vaccine doses before the virus spreads who is not being served . how do we get better at

providing service? there needs to be some sort of feedback loop and a community meeting is a great way to do that. the cdc says they expect an increase in monkey pox vaccine supplies in the coming weeks and months. the town hall meeting tuesday evening on monkey pox is scheduled to be online and registration is free by going to the san francisco aids foundation website. we're putting from the newsroom. jana katsuyama ktvu fox two news . thank you. janna health officials in sonoma county say they have detected three cases of what appears to be monkey pox. tests conducted so far indicate the ortho pox virus family, which includes monkeypox , local public health officials were told to assume those cases are monkeypox until further testing is done. the samples are being sent to the cdc for confirmation. santa clara county health officials are urging people in the south bay to wear masks because of rising covid rates that includes some outdoor settings. more than 1000 new daily infections are being reported. the hospitalization rate has also jumped

significantly in the past month with 233 coronavirus patients. that's the highest since january , health officials recommend masking indoors and outdoors in large gatherings where people are in close contact with one another. well today's january 6th committee hearing is expected to focus on a tweet by then president trump that critics say encouraged violent extremists. the tweet was said on december 19th and said in part big protest in dc on january 6th be there will be wild. democratic congressman jamie raskin says. people are going to hear the explosive effect that tweet had among trump allies specifically among domestic violent extremist groups. senator lindsey graham has been ordered to appear before a special grand jury in georgia. a judge ruled the senator from south carolina must comply with the subpoena to testify, declaring him a necessary witness to the investigation into former president donald trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election. senator graham

allegedly made at least two phone calls to georgia secretary of state in the weeks following the election. a federal judge refused to delay the trial of former trump white house adviser steve bannon. bannon is set to face trial next week on contempt of congress charges. a federal grand jury indicted bannon last year after he refused to cooperate with congress's investigation of the riot at the capitol. over the weekend, he agreed to talk to the committee despite his new willingness to testify. a judge says his trial will move forward. now we will carry today's hearing. live starting at 10 o'clock this morning over on ktvu, plus and online at ktvu .com. traffic along the mcarthur maze in oakland is back to normal this morning. that's after a large fire, though at a homeless encampment forced parts of the highway to close that fire started near 34th and would streets right underneath the 8 80 overpass yesterday morning. multiple vehicles, including rvs

were destroyed. it took firefighters about three hours to finally get it under control . no injuries are reported. chp shut down the freeway connectors because of the thick black smoke and due to concerns that the heat from the fire could damage the road. we've had numerous fires here in this location, and we every time we have concerns about the structural integrity, we have cars. we have rvs we have a ton of combustible materials, hazardous materials. we've had several explosions since we've been here working on this incident. caltrans reopened the freeway ramps nearly four hours later, after an inspection , there will be further inspections to make sure there's no hidden damage. crews battling the washburn fire burning in yosemite national park have lost have lost some ground in that containment dropped from 25% yesterday to 22% today as that fire grew from three square miles to just about four square

miles. the park superintendent now says the cause of the fire is under investigation because it could have been started by someone. they say there was no lightning the day the fire started, so let's say a person or people caused the fire whether that was accidentally or deliberately, they still do not know. officials held a meeting for people who live in the town of wawona right near the communities. most of the questions were from people who have been evacuated. we're all in concert. trying to determine the best soon it's time to get you guys home. but for me when i don't have to worry about you getting hit by a falling tree or a rock on your way home. that's when you go home. now the fire started last thursday it is drawing national attention because it's threatening the giant sequoias in mariposa grove , including the only remaining tunnel tree in the area, as well as the grizzly giant. arguably one of the most famous trees on

it sounds to me like it's pretty much definitely proves that he was that he did this loved ones of woman killed 30 years ago in mountain view, are reacting to a new arrest in the case. a tech executive is awaiting extradition from new york after flying into the country. john woodward is suspected of strangling 28 year old lauri hops in 1992. she was a computer engineer whose body was found in a car in mountain view near a garbage dump mile from her work. woodward was tried twice in the 19 nineties, but the case was

dismissed when the jury couldn't reach a verdict in his second trial. using advances in forensic science technology. to the point where we decided that we're going to get justice for lori and her family and her friends. investigators used advancements in dna technology to link woodward to a rope found around how it's neck. he had traveled from amsterdam to the u. s on vacation when he was taken into custody. it doesn't really matter what happens because lori is not coming back . we don't get to win and get our sister back. we get to win and maybe get some justice or some closure. she didn't get to meet my kids. she probably would have nieces and nephews now from her. investigators believe the motive was a love triangle. in another bay area cold case. it has been 21 years since paul o'brien was found dead in san francisco. now family members hope a large reward and new technology will help bring their sister's killer to justice.

relatives tell ktvu s amberleigh . they've never given up hope that the person responsible will be caught. a sister was so funny. so down to earth. two siblings share memories of their older sister, paula brian, who's homicide is an unsolved cold case with san francisco police for 21 years i feel like it just happened yesterday. it just it. never it's just something that is just always on my mind every day. avoid that can't be filled ktvu nueva and kerry walker say brian was the best sister they could ask for. she was the most protective older sister. police say the 25 year old was last seen around midnight on june 18th 2000 and one in front of a bar that's no longer there at the corner of sixth and mission streets. investigators say she was seen getting into a red sedan with a man with light colored hair around six ft. tall with a muscular build. they say he had an east coast accent and

a tattoo on his right arm. there's a couple of people that they change and talk to you in regards to that that fit the description, but it never panned out, police say. less than two hours later, her body was discovered nearby on harriet street by a truck driver making a delivery. she would have been here somewhere cold case. police investigators tell me it appears brian fought for her life. she suffered blunt force trauma. the victim was had some significant injuries tour. and we know that she had been in the company of others some hours before she was discovered. police are now offering a new reward of $100,000 for information leading to the identification of resting conviction of the person responsible, investigators say. with advances in dna technology , they will retest some items along with new evidence. i want to turn. brian's family shared this video. they enjoyed many trips with her to the beach favorite pastime now bittersweet memories. her sisters tell me

brian was struggling with mental health issues and left behind two young daughters ruined our family and just changed it, and we've never been the same night that brian was found dead here in this alleyway. investigators say there were people in this area. including homeless folks who live on the street and people visiting thereby bars and clubs. police hope someone will come forward in san francisco and burly ktvu. fox two news. thank you, amber. a south bay woman is recovering from dog bite wounds this morning after she says a police canine attacked her. she spoke to ktvu investigative reporter evan sernoffsky and told him the attack happened as she walked her dog and that it was completely unprovoked. again i wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. it was awful. melissa silva said she's still in shock after being attacked by a police dog in santa clara over the weekend. around two pm saturday . she was taking her dog for a walk here at the santa clara

youth soccer park. it wasn't doing anything except trying to go for a walk. and i couldn't understand why the dog was attacking me and not letting go listening to his commander, melissa silva said she had just taken one step onto the soccer field when a police canine seemed to come out of nowhere. first it attacked her small dog named chapo. before it sunk its teeth into her arm and pulled her to the ground. what followed was a 45 seconds struggle that she said felt like an eternity. it's surreal. it's unreal. i can't believe that the dog would just he wasn't commanded to attack. he was he just attacked after police finally got the dog off of her silver was rushed in an ambulance to santa clara valley medical center, where doctors stitched up multiple puncture wounds. she took these photos that we blurred because of how gruesome they are. santa clara police wouldn't go on camera but sent us this statement says quote while conducting off leash training a

person and their dog unexpectedly entered the facility through the closed and latched gate. the police canine immediately ran toward the person and their dog. the person picked up her dog and struck the police canine in the head, resulting in an unintentional bite to the person's upper arm. ktvu has been reporting on several controversial police dog bites in the bay area. our two month investigation earlier this year found there were no statewide standards on canine training or use. we found canines are responsible for serious injuries, and sometimes the victims like silva were never suspected of a crime. silver said she reached out to ktvu after seeing our previous coverage of similar cases. never in a million years. did i think it would happen to me. just randomly walking through the park, especially on a saturday afternoon in santa clara, evan sernoffsky ktvu fox two news. thank you, evan. police officers will remain on school

campuses in san jose, despite an effort to have them removed. the san jose unified school district board unanimously voted to extend contracts with 28 santas, a police officers for the upcoming school year, according to the agreement with the police department, the officers will help maintain safe and secure campuses. last year, the school board ended the contracts following civil rights protests demanding police reform. the board now says that decision was a mistake. but it's 4 19 as we check in with steve paulson for forecasts, keeping an eye on a lot of things that's been very hot. we have fires to worry about an air quality to think about. well, we'll be cooler pan. that's the good news. you know that it's a fine line between where it's hot where it's going to cool down again. there's just some areas that don't cool down until you get, you know a really big, rapid pattern change. we're not expecting that we are expecting most to cool down. if you're in the nineties yesterday, most locations will cool down low clouds and fog. i mean, the key, though, is the base the basis they've they've lifted a little

it mean to you to provide this opportunity to minority students ? females i mean, how how great does that feel? or it's wonderful, and i have to thank dr brian brown, who was the founder of this program. we went to high school together, and he just fell in love with science, and he thought that if he exposes, uh, black and brown students, particularly to this type of subject matter and give them, uh the opportunity to connect with it. part of part of the problem is what science is hard to really relate to it. so if you can learn it from a cultural relevant perspective, you're more inclined to engage with it. stick with it and eventually want to go to college and majoring. something like that, uh, and do a career with that later on in life. you're seeing real life businesses that actually looked like them engineers that look like them out here doing things that are

changing the world. i mean, here at slack they're researching. everything from you know how to, uh, you know, cure the coronavirus or, you know, looking at what these lasers, all kinds of medical and biotech related issues that they're working on to try to solve. history is being made with new elements on the periodic table being created here, so being in a place like this and then actually able to see themselves as a scientist is phenomenal. earlier today, we put lab coats on the students gave them, uh goggles and transform them into real life scientists so they can actually know what it feels like to be here and be able to say, hey, i can do it. others have done it. what is the overarching message to the students that come from communities that are underrepresented, especially in the stem field about the fact that they can do anything? well ironic part about it is that not

laptops. the computers were all destroyed in the schools and thrown around, um, onto the ground, stepped on throwing down stairways. richmond police say it's likely a group of teenagers broke in through a classroom window. besides lincoln, richmond charter academy and nystrom elementary were also vandalized. this weekend. greenwood academy was broken into earlier this month. the first policy move by san francisco's new district attorney is tobacco proposal expanding police access to private security cameras, d a brook jenkins wrote to the board of supervisors, saying quote not only will it serve a practical purpose of helping us to deter crime and hold those who commit crimes in our city accountable, but it will also send a message to those scheming to prey on our city. that there will be consequences for their actions. san francisco's police department is outlining plans for how and when investigators would check those surveillance cameras right now guidelines include asking for permission on

at ktvu .com. traffic along the mcarthur maze in oakland is back to normal this morning, but that's after that. large fire to homeless camp forced parts of the highway to close that fire started near 34th in wood streets right underneath the 8 80 overpass yesterday morning, multiple vehicles, including rvs were destroyed. it took firefighters about three hours to finally get it under control. no injuries are reported. but the chp shut down the freeway connectors because of thick black smoke due to concerns that the heat from the fire could damage the road. we've had numerous fires here at this location, and we every time we have concerns about the structural integrity, we have cars. we have rvs we have a ton of combustible materials, hazardous materials. we've had several explosions since we've been here working on this incident. caltrans reopened the freeway ramps nearly four hours later after inspection, there will be further inspections to make sure there's no hidden

today. astronomers say the photo acts almost like a time machine and gives us a glimpse of what the universe looks like more than 13 billion years ago. we're going back almost to the beginning. that is the discovery that we are making with this. you're seeing just a small little portion of the universe. the photo released yesterday. and the ones we'll see later today. we're taking one million miles from earth last january, and it's taken this long for the images to get back to us. scientists see the photos are the clearest and highest resolution infrared images from space we have ever seen. sacramento state university will be one of the places people can get a great view of the new images. today the schools planetarium will welcome the public to see the webb telescope photos. the planetarium's director, says the school can provide a view that few other public facilities can match. we're in a 40 ft diameter dome 2500 square feet of surface area

and we can use the entire dome ceiling as a giant screen. we've got to four k ultra high def projectors working together in unison, and so we're really going to take advantage of this facility to fill the entire ceiling with these brand new images. admission to the sacramento state planetarium will be free today, viewing start at 10 o'clock this morning and runs until three in the afternoon. well amazon's big prime day sale is up and running the retail giant's annual today online sale has a lot of deals for people who have their prime membership, analysts say. it's not expected to be as big of a day for amazon, as it has been in the past. this year's prime day comes as online sales are slumping. obviously surged during the pandemic. there's also a big part during the pandemic and also a surge in inflation will affect that good news for online shopping, though the delays at california's ports slowed down deliveries across the country, they have mostly
