blast to get to see you guys. my roots are still here in the weekend mornings. i remember you guys well, we worked together for years, and it's always a pleasure to be back row so well. good morning to you happy weekend of both of you. we are looking at continued whether where we will see sixties at the coast and low nineties inland. i hope you're enjoying the powder because we seem to be stuck in it. not only for today tomorrow and into the extended forecast only subtle changes better details on the current conditions and what you can expect for your weekend. coming up in just a little bit. thank you very much. rosemary. the faa now leading an investigation into a small plane crash in san jose. it all happened last night in a residential neighborhood near the reid hillview airport. ktvu james torres. joining us now live from the z scene, where crews are still cleaning up the crash site in east san jose. right, james. question and police reported that crash happening just after seven o'clock last night. that scene still very much here. you see that police tape and some of

those cones and where the police cruisers are all surrounding some backyards of neighborhoods . this is an area full of homes and that plane, you see, it's still here on the scene, crashing just a few feet away from those homes that first responders say the only person hurt is the pilot who is still recovering from life threatening injuries. here's what we know so far the plane took off from the airport they didn't get far before it crashed into a light pole and then hit the ground. it took out a number of power lines, knocking out power to the entire block, and several people who live nearby say they were home when it happened, and it gave them quite a scare. all of a sudden the power had went out in my room and then, like soon after, i heard like a something just dropped and it sounds like no scrapes and nothing, and i thought it was like a car just getting crashed into like a generator nearby. but i want to go outside and i checked in. i was playing and it was just pretty shocking like people were like rushing over to see what's happening to everything was okay. now that plan, of course.

still here on the scene this morning. we know the faa and the ntsb are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. the roadway still blocked and closed along ocala avenue. from adrian way to daytona drive that's right near donald meyer elementary school here in east san jose. i have reached out to pg and e this morning to see what power outages look like they say when this first happened they had about 77 customers without power. they're working to see this morning exactly two. tell me exactly how many people are still without power. at this point, there's still no word and how much longer the plane will be here, nor how much longer those roadways will stay closed. of course, once that changes we will let you know we're also learning a little bit more about the owner behind that plane. i'll tell you more about that coming up in the next half hour this morning in san jose, i'm james torres ktvu. fox two news, james thank you for that this morning, cal fire crews battling and destructive fire. this is in this year of foothills. it's called the oak fire broke out yesterday afternoon in mariposa county, just west of yosemite national park. cal fire says

huge flames huge flames rather have already destroyed several homes and other buildings and has grown to nearly seven square miles. containment. right now remains at 0% fire commanders say they are facing some big challenges in their effort to get this fast moving fire under control fires, throwing embers out considerable distance starting new spot fires. um has been difficult for firefighters . those can be challenging when the fires throw out those embers ahead of the main fire, so it's just been pretty extreme fire behavior and our crews are out there working diligently to try to get this fire wrapped up. currently there are no reports of any injuries. mandatory evacuation orders are in effect for thousands of people living in a number of small towns there. highway 1 40. no word yet on how that fire got started. well to the east. now firefighters have made significant progress against wildfire that threaten ancient

sequoias in yosemite national park. that would be the washburn fire. it's now 79% contained after bernie more than seven square miles of the forest that fire kicked off on july 7th, forcing the closure of the southern entrance. to yosemite and evacuation of the community of what wona it burned to the edge of mariposa grove, home to hundreds of giant sequoias park website says why won't a road is set to reopen at six this morning? so it just opened about an hour ago? but what wona and the mariposa grove will remain closed for now? calls are getting louder for san francisco school board member to step down following comments many have condemned as racist and shoe was among the people the mayor appointed to replace three recalled school board members earlier this year to responded in a candidate questionnaire for the november election that it's a quote major challenge and educating black and brown students and that quote that their problem was quote, unstable family environments and

tuesday night. we did not win. we did not win. although i was checking that ticket right now it's estimated to be at around $790 million, it could go up even more if there's a ticket buying frenzy over the next couple of days, and you can bet there will be with that kind of a jackpot. no one matched all six numbers in last night's drawing. there has not been a winner in 28 straight drawings. nobody has won the jackpot for now again, 28 consecutive drawings. that is why that jackpot is still big, while the odds of winning are one and 302 million, it is still wonderful for lots of people to dream about. i'm gonna probably give a little bit of money to my friends and then go straight to vegas. get back to work. i don't know there's no purpose if you're not working so that's a good attitude. one person in virginia, though, did match five of those numbers. and just in case you haven't checked here, the numbers once again plucked last night around eight o'clock our time. 14 40 60 64 66 in the

we have an update to a story we've been following for months in san francisco, if you take a look over here, you can see what happened after safety complaints from residents prompted city leaders to ask bart to install a temporary fence around the plaza outside of the 24th street, bart station. it was supposed to drive away illegal vendors. but if you take a look over here, you can see that those vendors quickly returned. a new fenof space around the 24th street bart station their wares. but there was still plenty o. the department of public works says it's working this location just about every day to clear out the vendors and make sure that there is a clear path along the sidewalk. so we have street inspectors who are out there to make sure that the public right of way. has passage for people. you can't just go on a very narrow sidewalk or north,

no sidewalk at all and be able to go down safely. santiago lerma from supervisor hillary ronan's office says the supervisor asked bart to fence off this area because, as the effort has gotten underway to clear illegal vendors from the area, there's been an influx of them. what do you hope this will do? is to put notice that, you know, coming here to sell small stolen goods is not appropriate anymore. many say they're happy to see the fencing and efforts to crack down on illegal sales. but some of the vendors who have been here for years say they're worried. ismael sanchez marquez says he's obtained paperwork over the years to sell here. he's frustrated trying to keep up with the changing bureaucracy and says he doesn't want to get swept up in the efforts to clear the area of bad actors. simple totally guards spanish, he said. the only thing we want is that they not remove us because we've always had everything legal. we're not selling stolen things . we have invoices for all of the products and we have proof that we've been here since 2015

for almost eight years, says plans are underway to drive out the illegally obtained goods while developing a permanent plan for the more legitimate vendors permit process is also too create economic opportunity for legitimate vendors to provide them an orderly space for them to be in. we did get a chance to talk directly with supervisor ronan, who authored the new vendor law that supervisor says she does not want to see that publix place. public space rather closed but says the situation has simply grown out of control has been completely overrun by people selling obviously stolen goods. um there are there is some drug sales and drug use that we think are happening there as well. the city is currently working on a permit process for legitimate vendors and hopes to have that in place by next month. time now is 7 16, a group of san francisco sheriff's deputies are stepping away from some of their

we lost james there but that that plane did go down in the evening last night. there are some issues with power in the neighborhoods there. pg and e is working on it right now. we hope to get james back with a live report coming up at the top of the hour once again near the airport, the reid hillview airport, a small plane. landing in a neighborhood there. alright, well, small plane crashed into the ocean. this is a huntington's beach in orange county, a video posted to social media shows the plane tugging the banners. it fell into the ocean. you see it nose diving there. the pilot was rescued lucky for him a lifeguard competition was going on nearby . they went right to work. countless lifeguards could be seen springing into action. faa investigating how that plane went down as well. short time ago, the united nations health agency declared the monkeypox outbreak now in more than 70 countries as an extraordinary situation, which classifies as a

global emergency. meantime two children have been diagnosed with monkeypox here in the us both are doing well and are receiving treatment, but they are the first pediatric cases in the us one is a toddler from here in california, the other and infant who tested positive in washington, d c. experts believe they were infected through what they're calling household transmission. the monkey pox clinic at san francisco general is hoping to vaccinate more people in the coming days. that clinic vaccinated 600 people yesterday , official state every walk in was able to receive a dose. the vaccine is actually a two shot vaccine. but for right now, the city is prioritizing first doses because of low supply. city leaders have requested 35,000 doses to meet their demand. only about 7700 have been received so far, and the new england journal of medicine published the first comprehensive study of the current monkeypox outbreak. researchers found that of the 528 cases reported between late

christian npg. any cruise still here as well, taking care of some of those power outages that happened late last night. they say that all should be resolved in just about an hour. but that plane still here still with some of that wreckage, not really move since it happened all late last night, the plane just feet away from neighborhoods full of homes as well. here's what we know happened. the plane took off from reid hillview airport. it didn't get far before it crashed into a light pole. then hit the ground and took out a number of power lines without knocking out power to the entire block. pgd saying about 77 customers went without power when it all happened, and several people who live nearby. where where this all happened. they say they were home and it gave them quite a scare. it's kind of scary. you know what? having that having that airport right next to my parents' house. it's nerve racking. it's scary. you know what i mean? what about if it were to fall inside the house or something like that? it's just it's something that you don't want to think about.

the ntsb and faa are investigating the cause of the crash. pg and e says that about 77 customers again were without power. when it all happened. they've restored service to about half of those people. they expected to be fully restored in a little under an hour. we've looked into some faa records for information on that plane, according to those records that seems to be connected. to a building and construction company headquartered here in san jose. first responders said the only person hurt in the crash was the pilot who is now recovering from life threatening injuries. of course, we'll keep you posted once we have more information. we're not. we're live this morning in san jose. i'm james torres. ktvu fox two news. thank you, james. this morning cal fire crews battling a destructive fire the sierra foothills. they call it. the oak fire broke out yesterday afternoon in mariposa county, just west of yosemite national park. we just got some new numbers out of cal fire this morning. the huge flames have now destroyed at least 10 buildings, including some homes up there. in the foothills, the

fire has grown to more than 10 square miles. containment still at 0% higher commanders say they are facing some major challenges in their effort to get this fast moving fire under control. the fires, throwing embers out considerable distance. starting new spot fires. um has been difficult for firefighters. those can be challenging when the fires throw out those embers ahead of the main fire, so it's just been pretty extreme fire behavior and our crews are out there working diligently to try to get this fire wrapped up. fortunately no reports of any injuries to just yet mandatory evacuation orders are in effect for thousands of people living in several small towns near and around highway 1 40. no word yet on how that fire may have gotten started to the east. now firefighters have made significant progress against wildfire that threaten ancient sequoias in yosemite national

park. the washburn fire is now at 79% containment. after bernie more than seven square miles of forest. this fire started july the seventh, forcing the closure of the southern entrance into yosemite and evacuation of the community of what wona it burned to the edge of the mariposa grove under home to hundreds of giant sequoias, thousands of years old park website says what won't erode set to reopen it did this morning just two hours ago, but what wona and mariposa grove will remain closed for the time being. the call is getting louder for a new san francisco school board member to step down for racist remarks and shoe was among the people the mayor appointed to replace three recalled school board members earlier this year to responded in a candidate questionnaire for the november election that it's a major challenge to educate black and brown students because of their quote, unstable family environments and lack of parental encouragement. more

swimming since i was little since i was two years old, and i've always loved it. and then i love being in the ocean. my whole life. i've just really loved being in the water and tahoe since i was little, my favorite place in on that so deciding to kind of put together my favorite place and my favorite sport and thing to do something that i thought was really interesting. so when i was 12, i signed up for my first swim, and i really just fell in love with the sport. talk about this swim. i take it. this is part of it. uh when did you do it? you did it at night, which is kind of creepy in area to what was it like? i started around eight pm and so walking across the beach. there was just a lot of people at the restaurant cause there's a restaurant in camp richardson, right, everyone make it right. yeah everyone was staring at me because i had butt paste all over my body to protect myself from the sun. sure everyone thought i looked really crazy, which i'm sure i did. and then swimming at night was just a really crazy experience because the stars were so right, but at

the same time the sky was mixing in with the land and the water because it was all so dark, so i kind of couldn't really tell where i was for a long time. and at that point i was saying i should just keep my head down and swim. just keep going. and if i got freaked out underwater because it's underwater, and it's black, and you can't really see what's below you. i just say, close your eyes and act like nothing's going on who was with you obviously had a couple of boats, right? i had one boat flashlights or something, right ? i had one boat next to me that had a bunch of glow sticks on the side so i could see it and it had two pilots captains that we're just driving the boat so that they could watch. i had to say that one of them can sleep. and then i had two crew members to give me food every half hour and then one person to make sure that i was following all the rules 13 hours. did you rest a little bit? did you climb back in the boat, or was it straight shot straight shot? you're not allowed to touch the boat or anyone else. the entire swim. you have to just do it by yourself there moments where you say, what the heck am i doing?

the first hour, i decided i was questioning all of my life choices, and i was like, i don't know why i do this. i'm never doing this again and then at the end when i was really cold, but other than that, i had a great time. talk about you didn't wear a wetsuit cold because i've water skied in the middle of the lakes a lot colder than the short cold. yeah warmer than the bay. it's been warming up, but it's go ranges between 58 74. there's a big difference and i could feel it, especially at night. little bit of hot chocolate. yes hot shower. will you swam for cause pediatric cancer? tell us tell us why you did that and what it means to you. i have known a lot of people that have dealt with cancer in their life. and i also know a lot of doctors who work at ucsf benioff children's hospital. and knowing that what i'm doing with my fundraising and my swimming is helping a lot of people that i know that are personally getting treatment there. is really good motivation while i'm going to just keep going. and i know you're bathing cap had the names of cancer survivors or or what? tell us
